  1. Honestly this is the best option. I-81 tore the downtown in half when it was built 50+ years ago. For the amount of daily traffic from I-81 that's actually going downtown vs. passing through, a highway in this spot isn't necessary. I'm sure when it was designed in the 50s/60s, they were anticipating regional population growth that hasn't happened. Commuter traffic from the north and south will be able to get into downtown just fine with the community grid plan.

  2. Surprised to see this. Growing up in CNY, it always seemed pretty bandwagon-y for pro sports. The Bills were definitely tops in the 90s, but Giants fans have surged in the last decade or so. You'll definitely see a lot of Packers and Steelers around Syracuse too. We also had quite a few Eagles fans around the time of their success in the early to mid-2000s. I can remember some of the Eagles fans I talked to claimed McNabb (former Syracuse QB, of course) was a major reason for their fandom.

  3. Having grown up in Syracuse, the area really is what ever way the wind blows. In the 1990's it was Bills territory, followed closely by the NYG. By the 2000's it became more spread out with the Giants, then Bills and Jets holding the most fans, followed by a whole lot of randomness.

I actually knew a lot of people who followed the Eagles because of Donovan McNabb (or so they claimed), but following his departure from Philly that fad has faded.

  4. I think the most important thing to come out of this JBJ situation is that Toronto interests (ie. MLSE) are actively working to pick up the Bills after Ralph dies.

While this is concerning, there are still so many intangibles at this point to say MLSE/Larry Tanenbaum are leading contenders to buy the team.

    They include:

    1. Is there a group/person with the finances and motivation to compete with any TO group?

    2. Can a new stadium get built in WNY and is the process already underway? There was a WGRZ article from March saying the Bills/Erie county were scouting sites.

    3. How much will NYS/Erie Co contribute to a new stadium? This is vital given the ability of MLSE to fund a stadium in Toronto and the high cost any new owner would have to pay for the team.

    4. How Ralph's will is set up- Do the Bills go into a trust, if so for how long? Can his heirs control who the team is sold to or is it just the highest bidder?

    5. Will the NFL allow it? I'm a bit concerned that the NFL seems to think TO/Buffalo are part of the same "region".

  5. FYI- I don't know if some of you are familiar with the Flight Aware site, but it was mentioned on this forum a few times during the Mario Williams saga last spring and Bill Cower rumors in 2010.

It allows you to see all flights in and out of the Buffalo airport. As was discussed three years ago the Bills normally charter jets for their execs/Ralph. I searched the non-commercial departures and.... There have been NO flights either to or from Phoenix.

Also, you can see a flight to Detriot on Monday morning, which I assume is Russ Brandon flying to meet Ralph.

So unless the Bills found another means to Phoenix (Jim Kelly's magic unicorn) I'm not sure how they could be meeting with Whisenhunt tonight.
