  1. While the Bills won't waste one of 6 picks on a RB, they're sure to bring one or two more in.

Bills have had contact with these RD7-UDFA RBs:

    Most Likely Order:

Chris Carson 6'1" 215, JUCO transfer to OK State- good outside runner, some good rec. yds, fits ZBS system, quiet guy, Christian athlete, 6.0 ypc vs AP-ranked teams.

T.J. Logan 5'10", 181, NC Tarheels- teammate Elijah Hood will draft RD3-4, scouted 1x, Can use as a receiver. Speedster. excels as a KR, Hornung Watch List for versatility. 5.9 ypc vs AP-ranked teams.

I'Tavius Mathers 5'11" 190, Middle Tennessee- was Ole Miss transfer, threat on ground or air, OleMiss=1,061 yards, 7 total td, MTSA=1,500 yards rushing, 15 rushing TD’s, 60 receptions. Nickname "Train", scouted 2x, no games vs AP-ranked teams.

Teriyon Gipson 5'8" 187, New Mexico-Shined at the NFLPA All Star game, quick little scat back, YPC leads nation, super agile, very quick, 8 outstanding warrants for traffic citations and failure to appear.

Jahad Thomas 5'8" 185, Temple, had academic issues, 3.3 vs AP-ranked teams.

Joe Yearby - 5'9", 200, Miami - Possibly the biggest RB Combine snub, rushed for 1,000 yards in 2015, then averaged 6.0 yards per carry in a part-time role in 2016.

  2. Astro - what do the colors mean again? Sorry if you already explained this. I'm thinking dark blue is 2 visits, yellow 1 visit, and white 0 visits?

If so I don't think they are taking Corey Davis. Which I'm ok with.

    Sorry--

Dark Blue=Scouted at 2 or more games

    Light Blue=Scouted at 1 game

White=Not Scouted by Bills to my knowledge

As players are interviewed (Xavier Woods, Hairston) or worked out at their official visits, I'll add a new color.

  3. EDGE Rankings, one from each round that meets Bills' needs the best:

    RD1-Derek Barnett

RD2-Tim Williams (likely not there at 44)

RD3-Tyus Bowser (one of my favorite)

RD5-Caroll Phillips (more of a rushbacker)

    RD6-Joe Mathis

  4. My "#DraftTek Bills Fan Club" asked me, "What would be the targets for other teams at the Bills' #10?"

The answer took me an hour, but I needed to know. It was a great question. Next week's Combine can change the names involved, but team picks and needs will remain the same. I considered six scenarios:

    The ILB Intrigue:
Detroit #20 or Miami #21 wants ILB Reuben Foster, but New Orleans wants him at #11. Either trade up to #10 to get him.

    The QB Quandary:
CLE and SF have QB as #1 need. Cleveland drafts Garrett at 1, not QB, signaling intention to draft QB with other RD1 at #12.
ARI#13 or WAS#17 trades up for QB of choice at #10.

    The OT Onslaught:
CLE takes QB at #12, signaling their 2nd offense priority (OT) may be #12 pick.
Philly at #15 wants OT in thin market, TB#19, NYG#23 thinking the same thing.

    The Peppers Caper
CHI#3 takes SS JAdams, Jets#6 take Hooker, Peppers is there at #10.
Cleve #12, Wash#17, Ten #18, TB#19, leapfrog to call Whaley.

    The McKinley Mindbender:
BAL#16 wants to get ahead of Indy#14 to select their EDGE rusher McKinley. They call Whaley.
But WAS#17, MIA#22 also interested, and they call Whaley. Doug has them bidding against each other.

    The CB/S Scenario:
CHI#3 or TEN#5 takes Humphrey, (NYJ#6 goes QB), you know CLE#12 may take their top D priority, a S or CB.
Peppers or Lattimore is going off board at #12.
    PHI#15, WAS#17, DET#21, SEA#26, DAL#28 leapfrog to call Whaley for the #10.

Let me know your thoughts about the plausibility of these.

  5.

    Here are my QBs.

In running a WCO offense, a QB's percent accuracy against good (AP-ranked) teams would be a key metric as it levels the playing field a bit.

That narrows it down to Watson, Trubisky, Mahomes, and Rush, maybe not Kizer.

BTW, I just added Cardale's college numbers as a Junior in there to show the comparison.

  6. I think it's legal to quote myself.

Peppers was the first in Big Ten history to win the B1G trifecta: Defensive Player of the Year (yes, over Hooker), Linebacker of the Year, and Return Specialist of the Year. An All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist, Peppers would be a playmaker in McDermott's "Shaq Thompson LB/Box Safety" role. His versatility is a trait Doug Whaley adores.

We know the Bills are going to need 3-4 Safeties, by re-signings, Free Agency, or by Draft. Aaron Williams is a big wild card, with his second neck injury in two years. We'll find out soon if he returns to football. Safeties play a huge role in the McDermott Defense, and, not including Aaron, the Bills have two free agents each at SS (Ihedigbo, Blanton) and FS (Sergio Brown, Meeks). I expect Doug Whaley to fill AT LEAST one Safety hole before April 27th. It's very possible that the Bills would also "double-dip" in the Safety-rich draft. There are options in RD2 and beyond who also fit MCDermott's LB/S mold: Xavier Woods caught a Bills' interview at the Shrine Game, and BC's John Johnson had Bills' scouts at two of his games.

  7. I'm a big fan of Orndoff from Pitt. I would love to take him in the 3rd or later.

The timing would be right. My "What-If" is OJ Howard in the first. WAY too early if we have no SS or QB in place, but the FA market is really rich in the Safeties. If the Bills don't go QB at #10, I could see nabbing OJ Howard. I like Engram and Orndoff, and for a clutch pass catching TE, I like Cole Hikutini.

  8. with the new D, I suppose that breaks things wide open with CBs...

Yep, but now we know more about the archetypal McDowell-Frasier CB. The archetype would be an elite zone-coverage guy, keep his eyes up for interceptions, have excellent ball skills at the catch point, and play special teams.

    That's this list:

    COVER-2 CBs

    1. Chidobe Awuzie
    2. Adoree' Jackson
    3. Humphrey
    4. Des LAwrence
    5. Rasul Douglas

I did other lists because I was on a roll.

    RUN-DEFENSE CBs

    1. Des King
    2. Humphrey
    3. NOT Sutton

    BALL-SKILLS CBs

    1. Sid Jones
    2. Adoree' Jackson
    3. Lattimore

    PRESS-MAN COVERAGE:

    1. Jourdan Lewis
    2. Gareon Conley
    3. Tankersley
    4. Awuzie

    MAN OR ZONE:

    1. Sid Jones
    2. Tre'davious White

    CB/S HYBRIDS:

    1. Tankersley

I don't have Corn Elder or some others on this list, but I would appreciate some help with this.
