  1. We won't know till we know, but . . .

    BUSH (2 yrs at USC)

    Rushing - 343 attempts, 2648 yds, 22 TDs

    Receiving - 80 catches, 987 yds, 9 TDs

    Punt returns - 66 returns, 545 yds, 3 TDs

    Kick returns - 49 returns, 1003 yds, 0 TDs

    Spiller (4 yrs at Clemson)

    Rushing - 606 attempts, 3547 yds, 32 TDs

    Receiving - 123 catches, 1420 yds, 11 TDs 1 TD

    Punt returns - 87 returns, 569 yds, 11 TDs

    Kick returns - 74 returns, 1352 yds 2052 yds, 7 TDs

I'm not sure this helps either side of the argument (though ya gotta love all those Spiller TDs!), but in the end, it'll be more about how Gailey coaches him and uses him. At the very least, every other back and receiver on the field with Spiller will get a little less attention. We're all hoping for good numbers from him, but even better, I think we'll see improved numbers for everyone else, as well -- not that that will be hard to accomplish!

And in the end, even if Spiller is "only" another Reggie Bush, that's decent value for a #9 pick.

sorry for the typo and the inability to add such big numbers!

  2. We all seem to see what we want to see in TE. . .

Maybe his concussion-based double-vision has finally cleared up and he can see straight for the first time in two years...

It's been a long time since we've been able to hear him speak because he's usually buried under opposing defenders...

I can't wait for these guys to all get their chance this summer and we can know more and talk less.

Plus, calling out JK is fine - and being rude about it wouldn't have made TE more right, or more manly. Respect is something we should look for even in our favorite HGH/PED fueled behemoths -- and QBs too, for that matter.

  3. I've been around long enough for a whole 17 posts, and even I can see PTR's big smirky smiling emoticon and what I imagine is a huge robotic smirk somewhere.

Being Bill's fans doesn't mean we have to give up our sense of humor, folks. There's been a lot to laugh (and cry) about for the last 10+ years!

  4. We don't need to lose 15 games to get a top tier QB. Given next year's draft class, the #9 pick will still have access to a terrific college QB. Maybe not Locker, Luck or Mallet (any of whom I'd love), but there's also Stanzi, Pryor, Ponder, Gabbert and by draft time there'll be two more names that will be on every analysts tongue. Plus, there are a bunch of rebuilding teams that won't draft a QB in round 1.

  5. Love Orton. Consumate pro. Great attitude. Lots of intangibles.

But IMO he isn't what this team needs.

To me, the Bills either need a proven franchise quarterback or a prospective franchise quarterback.

Adding Orton to the mix only muddles the stew.

As the others have said, although he's more proven than the guys we have, it's only by minute degrees. The addition of Orton would only confuse the issue. He's not appreciably better than what we already have and his presence would only further dilute the snaps needed to evaluate and develop the QBs that we already have.

    +1

  6. Playing 4 years for Clemson in the ACC, Spiller totaled 7588 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per rush, 11.5 yards per reception, and 27.7 yards per kick return.

I get it, but it's just wrong to argue that durability and success in the ACC is a negative.

Plus, Spiller's YPC/YPR/YPKR is impacted by the fact that the field is only 100 yards long.

He reached paydirt over 50% more often than Best and 200% more often than McCluster.

Hey Tomcat, thanks for the blank to copy and paste!

  8. interesting article. Thanks.

Don't know where he lands on this team, but it's easy to root for this guy.

"I think I'm ready," Brown said. "I know there's a lot of concern ... with colleges going shotgun and that's a concern with the majority of QBs coming out. But if you're a good quarterback, you're a good quarterback. It's not like I don't know how to read a defense or make throws. I know how and I do it well."

  9. There is no such thing as 'competition'. They have an idea who they want to be the QB by the start of camp and that guy will get the meat of the snaps. The next guy will get a little more snaps before the 2nd preseason game and start that game. After that, the guy they want will have the meat of the snaps from there on out.

If you go back EVERY QB 'competition' goes down that way. Why? Because you can't go into a season taking reps away from the guy you want to be your starter. It is a recipe for disaster, and the way Nix on that radio show blasted the last regime for its screwup's last pre season, I see this 'competition' over after the 2nd preseason game.

It doesnt' matter if its Brohom, Brown, Edwards or Fitz, they will know the guy they want to win this thing before they set foot in training camp.

This might be true. But if I was one of those qbs, I'd be thinking the competition started the day the Bills introduced Gailey. All 4 of those boys better be working their tail off right now. The competition isn't during training camp. It's during the OTAs, the voluntary dates, etc.
