  1. This game was memorable because it was the only NFL game I ever watched from the sidelines. The Edinboro band performed that day, and they had some special sideline seats set up for them. My handicap friend was helping them with some announcements, and I volunteered to help push his wheelchair. We were so low sometimes you couldn't see the games because the players on the sideline were in the way.

  2. I can't be optimistic at least until I know who the new GM is. If they get someone who has a connection with McDermott, then I'll be a tad optimistic. Having a GM/coach on the same page will be an improvement.

Why gut the whole scouting staff, though? Why not let the new GM decide who to retain and who to replace with his own people?

I also can't overlook what Pegula has done to the Sabres. He gutted them too, only two months before the draft, rather than right after. Not real smart.

He's going to have to give McDermott an company more patience, because I see the Bills taking a step back before they start moving forward.

  3. Maybin. He had two years of eligibility left and should have stayed in school longer.

If we're talking the first rounds overall, then the Whitner/McCargo draft was the worst ever. Taking Whitner over Ngata was compounded by taking McCargo later in round 1. Whitner had been projected to go around 24 on some earlier mocks that year, which is where McCargo was taken. A Ngata/Whitner draft would have been pretty good.

  4. Interesting. Opposite end of the spectrum from the Grantland article.

The writer in this article has a good take on Tyrod. How many Bills fans knew much about him until the preseason? Not surprising a lot of national writers are down on the Bills because Tyrod isn't well known to them.

I'm not nervous about this team (yet). It's more like 1988 when the team was on the rise.

  5. I would put the order as:

    Taylor

    Manuel

    Cassel

Taylor ought to be the week 1 starter. He's shown he can throw from the pocket and that he's much more than just a running QB. He makes good decisions and he's accurate. Ryan's here to win a SB, not to just break the playoff drought, so I see him picking the one that gives the best chance of getting the team there. Roman would be able to do the most with Taylor. Taylor just seems like the best choice.

EJ ought to be right behind him. He's really gotten his career back on track. He's always had the work ethic, so it's really got to be the coaching staff. The week 1 starter doesn't have to be the week 16 starter. With continued growth over the course of the season, I could see EJ vaulting back on top.

^ This basically sums up the way I feel. I don't trust EJ when there is pressure still and his progressions are still slow but he looked way more comfortable than last year. Tyrod is a playmaker and a boom or bust he could get us deep in the playoffs. Regardless next year we need to draft either Connor Cook, Boykin, Hackenberg, Goff or whomever else emerges because its a loaded QB class...unless we win the SB haha

Cassel won't lose you games, but to win it all you need more than that. If he starts, next year's #1 probably is one of those QB's. It may cost a 2017 to move up to get one of them. With a number of contracts issues coming up, it would be huge not to have to draft another QB. You've got to go with the higher upside player.

  6. No.

I don't like Cutler, but I also don't like the c*@# coming out of Chicago where his coaches and ex-coaches are ripping him anonymously:

That's chicken B.S. IMO if you have something to say in your profession, sign your name.

I hope we aren't harboring anyone on the Bills current staff who is part of this

I don't think Aaron Kromer would do that a second time.

I live in the Chicago area. Bears fans have told me if it was up to them they'd trade Cutler to us for a 7th round pick. They'd even throw in some gift wrapping.
