  1. There has to be some major internal issues going on there. I dont think there has ever been this many young solid starters retire from the same team in the same offseason. Patrick Willis, Chris Borland and now Anthony Davis? Justin Smith was understandable, but the others are strange

  2. I wish DirecTV actually had any control over the NFL Sunday Ticket. Too bad its league produced who just provides the exclusive rights to DirecTV as part of their sponsorship. Im sure if DirecTV controlled the Sunday Ticket, they'd love to broadcast it and generate viewership and revenue.

Anyone who thinks DirecTV controls the NFL Sunday Ticket, just does not understand the TV market and basic business sponsorship practice. (Example: just like DirecTV does not control what is broadcast on ESPN, ABC, NBC, HBO, AMC....etc.).

So people complaining about DirecTV in this thread need to stop. This is a broadcasting decision made by the NFL. Simple.

And those threatening to leave DirecTV, life isn't better on the other side. I switched to FIOS 7 months ago and its the worst decision I ever made. They offered a cool deal, I jumped without doing the research. Next thing I know I had a 2 year contact. FIOS internet is the best, amazing actually, never a buffer. However, the TV service is absolute garbage. DirecTV offered a much larger selection of sports channels, which I miss. FIOS has a horrible picture quality compared to DirecTV. DirecTV is actually starting to broadcast content in 4K now, which makes me even more pissed about leaving them. FIOS will not be offering that anytime soon. Im sick of the annoying FIOS advertisements on the channel guide. Then those annoying gadgets, FIOS has that randomly boot up when you're watching TV. Since I've had FIOS, they have taken away 12 channels out of my package. Then the insane amount in taxes that FIOS charges, how does FIOS have almost $25 in taxes, when I never paid more than $10 for DirecTV taxes? Oh and FIOS equipment cost are more than DirecTV yet the equipment is worse. I've had FIOS for 7 months and have replaced a box 4 times because of malfunctions. I had DirecTV for almost 6 years, I had to replace a box once.

Sure DirecTV went out occasionally during snowstorms and heavy rain, but it was usually automatically reconnected to another satellite hub or rebooted within 2-3 minutes. I never had to wait 1-3 hours for the cable company to fix the problem, like I do with FIOS. The longest I ever remember DirecTV being out for was around 20 minutes. If snow built up on the dish, It was attached to the side of my house, and it took me 30 seconds to grab a broom and go outside to tap the snow off of it and it was working again. Not to mention DirecTV can still work when the power goes out with a generator, you can't do that with FIOS. DirecTV was hands down the better service provider (better quality), and even the customer service was more pleasant. Verizon might have the worst customer service of any business I know. The bundle is extremely overrated.

All I know is I am paying the FIOS cancellation fees in August and going back to DirecTV just in time for football and hockey season. I miss my sports selection and TV service quality I had with DirecTV. I plan on keeping the internet with FIOS and having my TV service with DirecTV. Two of my neighbors and my brother just switched back to DirecTV and cancelled their FIOS service as well. I've been seeing alot of DirecTV dishes being installed in my neighborhood lately,

  3. i dont know if you saw the page, but they didnt seem to be the most rationally put together of thoughts. setting aside his religion, and general politics of the situation --- he got pretty far out there in his approach, which is obviously going to marginalize him and catch the label of being crazy. i think the comment was directed at his extreme tone, not his religion.

Maybe, but seems like he meant something by throwing in his religion which clearly wasn't needed. I haven't really looked throw his whole twitter feed, but he is obviously upset from the few I saw, and sort of looks like the NFL has tried downplaying his injury and he isn't receiving paychecks now because of the issue of concussions and major injuries.

However, at the same time.. I think players should choose one side. They complain when the NFL imposes rules to make the game safer then they complain when they do receive injuries and concussions that the NFL isn't making it safe enough.

  4. He's Muslim. And he has ham in his name.

Wow. Never heard of him before. Needs some serious help.

So just because a guy is voicing his opinion means he needs help? Or is it because he is muslim that he needs help? since you feel the need to throw that in your post..... Its pretty childish when someone judges someone based on their religious beliefs, ethnicity, or race. This is the 21st century, grow up.

He is right, the whole concussion issue in the NFL is a major issue. Especially since the NFL tries to hide it and many other players feel the same way. He is just being more open about it.

  5. Hughes definitely played better last year than his previous two years because they switched defensive schemes that he fit into alot better. I think he is a good 3-4 OLB, and he will most likely be on a rotation here which keeps him fresh. I think both Hughes and Lawson are great pickups this off-season as both certainly have lots of potential and are good in the 3-4 defense. Not to mention the pickup of Alan Branch at NT, who has some good 3-4 experience and is alittle underrated.

If Jerry Hughes continues to build off of last year and starts playing like he did at TCU, we got a good trade. I think this trade happened because both players involved need a new start and both fit their "new" team's defensive scheme alittle better. Pettine loves quick guys with versatility, and that's what Hughes provides.

The only negative of the trade was that we lose a ILB.... In my opinion we now have two inexperienced starters on the roster (Bradham and Alonso). I hope we go out and sign a veteran experienced ILB who can step in if needed. It doesn't need to be a flashy signing, just someone who can play. Sheppard was very average here and offers very little versatility

I think then we are only 1 CB and 1 ILB signing away from having a very good defense.

  6. If the best you can do when criticizing Manuel is bring-up high school WR ratings and projections that have yet to bear fruit, while ignoring the numerous other problems FSU had on offense (not to mention the defense's performance against Florida), you're not exactly dealing from a position of strength.

Your reading comprehension is obviously not a strength? Where in the world have I criticized EJ Manuel? I am defending the Manuel pick. So I am really confused by that response.

No it did not rank them based on recruiting rankings. BOTH Athlon and ESPN rank them according to who they think are the best. That's two sources saying that they are 6 and 7 IN THE COUNTRY. But they're wrong I know. I

And quit saying that recruiting rankings don't mean squat because Bama, the team that's won 3 out of the last 4, has had the top class 4 or 5 years in a row. So exactly how do rankings mean squat? Who are the best teams in CFB? LSU, UF, OSU, UGA and they are always in the top of the recruiting rankings. Does that mean that every 4/5 * turns out of course it doesn't. I'll re-post this for those who say recruiting doesn't mean anything. Recruiting is everything in CFB. http://www.cbssports...otball/21641769

On the final count, the higher-ranked team according to the recruiting rankings won almost exactly two-thirds of the time (66.4 percent of the time, to be exact), and every "class" as a whole had a winning record against every class ranked below it every single year. (The only exception, if it even qualifies, came last year, when "two-star" teams finished one game below .500 in head-to-head collisions with "one-star" teams. Elsewhere, the hierarchy held across every line.) The gap on the field also widened with the gap in the recruiting scores: At the extremes, "one-star" recruiting teams managed a grand total of six wins over "four-star" and "five-star" recruiters in 59 tries. Where a small handful of teams defied their rankings, none managed to do so as part of a larger group.

The whole point of me posting any of this is that I keep hearing everyone say EJ didn't have talent around him. That's total crap and the two articles that I posted proved it no matter what you want to believe. Btw, he has a very good backfield that rushed for almost 3K this year. But that doesn't matter either. So even though FSU has had a top 10 class 5 years running in the state where the best players come from EJ was surrounded by crap? Only on this board do posters lack an ounce of objectivity. Hilarious!

Its clear you are not willing to read entire post and your only objective here is to bash EJ Manuel instead of looking at the facts. Your assumptions are ridiculous and your "high school rankings are everything" mentality is even more ridiculous. NO one is denying Alabama doesn't bring in great recruiting classes. They have stellar defensive recruiting classes.

And once again, the ESPN article you keep referring to is based on their high school rankings. If you actually read the article they even say the WR's HAVE NOT lived up to expectations. They say they're injury prone and inconsistent. Not to mention poor route runners and average hands in the college level.

It's evident you're simply an EJ Manuel hater, so there is no point in continuing to argue with you.

  7. You guys can keep ignoring the facts I'm sure that the sheep will say that ESPN sucks (CFB is the one thing they get right) It's hilarious to listen to the sheep mentality in this board. Trying to justify the reasons why EJ was average in college. There's always excuses with every Bills reach. Hope it makes you feel better. an't wait to bump this thread.

    Ranking nation's top 10 receiving corps in.gif

    July, 31, 2012

    7. Florida State Seminoles

Key receivers: Rashad Greene, Willie Haulstead

There's a lot of speed here, without question, but a lot of unrealized potential. Greene, Haulstead and Kenny Shaw, among others, have demonstrated a lot of ability. Injuries and inconsistency, however, have limited overall production.

Haulstead is a great example. The junior was forced to take a medical redshirt a year ago due to lingering effects from a concussion, and yet he is FSU's only representative on the preseason Biletnikoff watch list. At 6-3 and 233 pounds, he's a tough matchup for ACC corners -- or any league's corners, for that matter.

As a freshman, Greene led the team with 596 yards and seven touchdowns. He might turn out to be the Noles' top award candidate, depending on how he continues to mesh with QBEJ Manuel.

Even without a proven star, FSU shines with its depth. Senior Rodney Smith and sophomoreChristian Green, the second- and third-leading receivers a year ago, combined for 1,011

You do realize that supports my arguement and only weakens your arguement? Re-read that write-up.

Also that article ranked the WR corps based on players rankings coming out of high school. Remember, Sam Young was once ranked the #2 OT coming out of high school (in 2006), then he was average in Notre Dame and undrafted. Bryce Brown was considered the best high school prospect in the 2009 class, he ended up being a 7th round pick. Russell Sheppard was considered the 2nd best QB prospect and 3rd or 4th best overall prospect in the 2009 class... he turned out to be nothing. Beannie Wells, Stafon Johnson, and Keiland Williams were all ranked better than CJ Spiller in 2006. I could keep going if I wanted to.

In the end, high school rankings don't mean anything. Prospects don't live up to their rankings more often than they do. Stop making your conclusions based on high school rankings. FSU dos not have tons of weapons for their QB's, just look at how many RB/WR/TE's have been drafted out of FSU during EJ Manuel's time there.

Also, its funny you have to resort to name calling. Thats what people do when they know they don't know what they are talking about. It's also funny how your the only one that agrees with yourself in this thread. Yet your calling everyone else a "sheep" LOL

  8. Stat boy ...harsh...sorry bro.

RG3 tooks advantage of his talent by putting unreal numbers game after game. What did EJ do? Believe me Rashard Greene, Kelvin Bejamin and Kenny Shaw will all be drafted high as WRs for FSU not to mention the ridiculous stable of backs. RG3 was unreal. EJ was good. The talent of the overall offenses severely favors FSU and it's not even close including O LIne.

And I would agree with you that the Big12 defenses are bad but the ACC is worse. The ACC is 1-8 against the Big 12 the last 3 years. The comp isn't close regardless of defenses. But tell me again how Va Tech's vaunted defense was good when DUke hung 40+ points on them. Sorry again for the stat boy, i get harsh sometimes.

Do you really want to revisit the last 4 years on this board?

Florida State's offensive weapons are so good that they have NOT had a WR/RB/TE drafted (in any round) since the 2007 Draft (Link to all draft picks). Right, they did have Chris Thompson get drafted in the 5th round this year (first WR/RB/TE drafted since Lorenzo Booker and Chris Davis in 2007.... both of which didn't amount to anything). You make very little sense talking about all these FSU weapons they apparently have. In addition, FSU has only had 3 offensive linemen that have been drafted in that time frame (Zebrie Sanders-5th, Andrew Datko-7th, and Rodney Hudson-2nd). Then of course Menelik Watson in the 2nd this year.

So NO, EJ Manuel was NOT surrounded with tons of offensive talent like you keep claiming.

Yet RG3 and Baylor had a pretty solid WR named Terrence Williams drafted in the 3rd round this year (many predicted him as an early 2nd). Then how about WR Kendall Wright drafted in the first round last year? And you say Florida State has lots more offensive talent? Do your research and learn CFB before making ridiculous statements.

In addition... Rashard Greene, Kelvin Bejamin and Kenny Shaw will all be drafted high as WRs? What are you smoking? Kenny Shaw is awful, sure he has shown some flashes, but he will not be a high draft pick. Kelvin Benjamin definitely has potential to be drafted in the 2nd-3rd round maybe the first based on his size, red zone threat, and ability to make big plays time to time. But before touting him as a "high pick" he needs to stop dropping balls and learn how to run routes. In addition he is slow of the line. Benjamin is extremely raw, he was only a freshmen last year. Rashad Greene is their best chance as a first round pick. He has good hands, speed, and body control. However, his strength is awful, he gets jammed alot at the line, and is an average route runner. I can see Benjamin and Greene as late 2nd round picks at the very highest, currently.

To end it, NO way is Big-12 defenses better than ACC defenses. Your hatred for EJ Manuel is ridiculous and unbelievable.

  9. I wouldn't use a high pick. Guy has talent, but has too many health issues and he is an odd duck in general.

Yeah those 3 games missed TOTAL in his 3 year NFL career sure says he has health problems :P

With that said... IncarceratedBob is wrong about almost everything he says.

  10. Very amusing, yes - apparently anyone with 'net access can be a 'journalist' these days!

But no need to google - i wouldn't waste the time for a B/R piece - you just click on the author's name in the original B/R article

(I have a feeling if more folks did that before citing B/R articles, we'd see a whole lot less of them cited here on TSW)

Im thinking that the OP (ChanOverChin) writes for bleacher report. He seems to link their articles often. Only those that write for B/R think it's a reputable source.

  11. OLB: Barnett is very good. The rookies are not ready. Moats and Batten are not well suited to play OLB in a 4-3 alignment. That leaves Morrison. Maybe he's as good as Barnett, but why not bring in a vet OLB who you know can be a productive player at OLB in the 4-3 and also provide some leadership. Bring in McIntoch or Farrior to at least compete with Morrison. The Bills look to be pretty solid everywhere else on defense.

WR: Need someone like P. Burress. Besides St. Johnson, no other WR on the roster can create a matchup problem. Burress' size, athleticism, and ability to catch the ball over the top and in jump ball situation will force teams to double him at times, which means the uncoverable St. Johnson will be open almost all the time. That means trouble for the opposing defense.

TE: Need someone like Schiancoe or Shockey. Chandler is an excellent player, but the other TEs on the roster are absolute scrubs.

LT: I pray that Glenn is the answer at LT, but he probably needs a year to get acclimated. In the meantime, I say sign a stud LT like M. McNeil for 1-2 years and let Glenn get his feet wet in the NFL as our starting RG. That might hurt somebody's feelings, but it might also help to keep Fitz healthy for the entire season, which is absolutely essential if the Bills hope to make the playoffs this year. Why would the Bills take a chance like that??

I agree with all the key points you made. Starting with OLB, I like our starters (Morrison, Sheppard, Barnett). However, I have been saying since the draft we need some veteran depth players who have played in the NFL. We don't need someone spectacular, but 1-2 players that can be role players and play if a starter goes down. I like Moats and still believe he has potential to be a solid backup and situational player in this league. I am hoping that is at OLB. The few games I seen Bradham in at Florida State, I liked him. Hes a hard hitter and seemed to do everything well, I thought his strengths were run defense. Carder, Ive heard alot of good things about him, but have never seen him play. Other than those three for depth I don't think we have much. I know some people like Chris White and Danny Batten, but I don't think Batten will fit this defense and White, I never really noticed all that much. Bradham and Carder are rookies and mid-late round picks, I don't expect them to contribute right away. I would like to see the Bills release Dwan Edwards (overpaid and doesn't fit the 4-3) and replace him with a OLB and MLB who have NFL playing experience. Im still wondering if Shawne Merriman will play any OLB? In my opinion, it is the ONLY thing that concerns me about this defense.

Your other three positions. At WR, I agree we need a #2 but Chan and Buddy seem to like what we have. I do not think it is a glaring need at this moment. Im interested to see what Marcus Easley can do. Plus we usually have 3-4 WR sets. I would not be against the Bills signing a guy like Burress, but I am not a big fan of him. The TE position, I would love Shiancoe signing but I like Chandler and we do not use TE's except in the read zone it seemed. Plus Ive liked what I have read about Dorrin Dickerson and Fendi Onobun. And LT position, I liked what I seen from Hairston before his injury. After he came back, he seemed beaten alittle more though. I absolutely like Glenn and think he will develop into a great LT, I watched him in college and was always impressed how he mauled DE's. Im not overly considered with LT. If McNeil was healthy, I would snatch him up in a heartbeat and move Glenn to RG but his health is a huge concern.

So in conclusion, I would say LB concerns me the most. However, I would like a proven #2 WR. And a healthy and hungry McNeil would always be nice, but he isn't the same player he was 2 years ago.

I'd potentially agree with you on OLB and WR ... IF.... you can pick up someone who's a clear improvement. Kind of like in 91 when the Bill's signed a FA named Lofton (or was it 92??) LT, you drafted Glenn #10 overall, let him take his lumps and learn on the field in the position you intend for him to play long term. If it's LT, then lat him start playing there now.

Glenn was drafted #42 overall (2nd round) :D

  12. I don't understand this post at all. How is a broken leg and a busted knee, two totally unrelated injuries, a "health issue?"

A health issue is a bad knee, shoulder, ankle, etc. that keeps giving you problems. You could describe Kyle Williams and Shawne Merriman as having heakth issues. Wood's issue is more like bad luck.

    PTR

You consider Kyle Williams as someone with health problems? Coming into this season, he missed 2 total NFL games in his career. Coming into 2011-2012 season he played in 78 out of a possible 80 games. He became a full time starter in 2007-2008 season, and started 62 out of 64 games of those games coming into the season. He missed the last 11 games this season because he had bone spurs in his left ankle/foot. Its an injury that's not going to affect him next year, very rarely does it need to be treated. Williams had surgery to remove the extra bone mass because it had been bothering him for a few years. He decided to have the surgery so he can perform at a high level for a longer period of time, because it can be painful if your on your feet alot. That's a heck of alot healthier than Wood, who has had two major lower body surgeries.

  13. I have my reasons for each, just my opinions:

Brady NOPE (dont want someone that bashes the city of Buffalo every chance he gets, and he clearly wouldn't want to be here)

Sanchez No (Most overrated QB in the League)

Tannehill No (Hasn't proved a darn thing)

Weeden No (Hasn't proved a darn thing)

Flacco YES (Would take Flacco in a heartbeat)

Big Ben No (I don't like a rapist)

Dalton No (I don't think you would improve with him, Fitz has good grasp with offensive and chemistry with receivers)

    Schaub No (Injury prone)

Luck YES (Could be a star)

Hasselback No (Getting old, and very similar to Fitz, but Fitz has better chemistry with the team/offense)

    Gabbert No (Very Inconsistent

Manning No (TOUGH call but end of career, coming off major surgery. I dont think he will be the same. If not for injury, this would be a "HELL YES")

Palmer No (Maybe 4 years ago)

Rivers YES (Ive always loved Rivers

Cassell No (I think an overrated QB)

    3 Yes
