  1. While I certainly don't condone the nastiest comments sent her way (which, by the way, were par for the course as far as anonymous internet posters go...i.e. racism, sexism, violence and all-around buffoonery), her article that she defends as "good-natured ribbing" lacked any good-natured tone whatsoever. It definitely sounded as though she had an axe to grind of some sort and the whole article came off as passive-aggressive and hostile. Anyway, that aspect is lost among the fervor surrounding the comments. Now she gets more press than she's probably ever had.

  2. I do think people in sports media like the story of the Bills succeeding. Everyone likes the down-and-out comeback story and it sells as well as coverage of the perennial winners does; maybe more-so in these times when Americans (many of us) are also feeling "down-and-out."

But, there will be collective groans in the front offices of the league if (when!) we make it to the big dance again because we're a small market team. The thing to remember I guess is that it's entertainment, it's ultimately about the dollars. Right now, we make great copy. If we crap the bed we'll be relegated to the back pages once again. Remember 2008? Our great start that season will now get you a Trent Edwards jersey for $9.99 at TJ Maxx (saw one today.)

Anyway, I want to get this game on already.

  3. "For a guy to score on the last play of the game wide open, C'mon man ... Do your job," defensive tackle Tommy Kelly said. "That's what the man pays you for, do your job. If you got that guy, follow him to the bathroom."

Tommy Kelly's mouth is not gonna win him fans amongst his teammates...unless of course he follows them to the bathroom.

  4. Well, he gave us hope coming off our dismal end-of-the-Rob-Johnson era 2001 season. I was at the opener against the Jets in his debut. Last play TD to Moulds to force OT. If Jets didn't burn us with a run-back TD in first play of OT we would have ended up 9-7 tied with Miami and New England.

Anyway, two games into the '03 campaign we were flying high. Big wins over Pats and Jags; what an offense!

Then came the 3rd week, Sunday night game on national TV. I recall being pumped as ever, only to see Miami make Bledslow look as if he wearing cement spikes. They figured him out, and so did the rest of the league. He went down faster and more often then a Kardashian sister at the NBA all-star weekend.

Given that fans in Buffalo gave him ample support, hoping he'd revive his game, as did management for that matter; his decision to blast B-lo is lame and classless.

  5. Jim Naples, a good friend of my family and Buffalo native, was a scout and front-office guy for the Yankees. He parlayed that into a nice little business in Buffalo that lasted only until the Yankees started sucking again. Bet on that. Yankees are bandwagon team.

Anyway, this thread is for member who lost his house. My bad for engaging in off-the-topic talk.

    Be well and go Bills.

  6. Home Run Throwback was greatest ever plunge from "insane happy excitement stoked joy pumped crazy wild freakout" to "confusion denial anger sadness depression empty darkness" I've ever felt...also the quickest.

Who would've thought that play was a harbinger of next 11 seasons?

Screw these "best of" lists. They're only good when you agree with them.

  7. While McFadden's is the "official" NYC Bills Backers bar here on Sundays they do not hold the monopoly on Buffalo Fan support in the Big Apple. Thanks to the mass exodus of Buffalonians to New York City in the past ten years, you can walk in just about any establishment with NFL Sunday Ticket and you'll find a group, some big some small, of ex-pats cheering on the only REAL New York team.

After Jimmy's Bait Shack (92nd St and 3rd) put the kibosh on Bills games I was left wandering until next season I found Bonnies Grill in Park Slope. Bonnies is great for the food (REAL Buffalo Wings, Beef on Weck etc...as well as some of the best burgers in the borough) and laid backed-ness of Brooklyn but you have to get there early to score a good seat in order to view the smallish TV's (since upgraded to larger screens.)

So, three seasons back (four maybe?)I'm walking up 5th Ave from Bonnies to the Subway after a game and I see groups of Bills-clad guys and gals passing me. I thought this strange as the game was over and they were headed toward Bonnies. Turns out there we're two other bars on the same block devoting screens to groups of Buffalo fans. I found the same thing in Williamsburg and Greenpoint last season.

Basically, NYC is teeming with Bills fans.

  8. Complete wanna-be NY'er. I bet this giant douche-nozzle isn't even from NYC, or possibly even NY for that matter (I smell Jersey...). "Youse" guys? Um, yeah, definitely Jersey and still living with mom.

As for the New Jersey Jets making Tommy the Teen Idol cry all the way home; That was awesome. Jets fate against Pittsburgh? Not so great.

  9. It's so easy to diss Donte, to compare him to the elite safeties in the league where he (and most every other safety in the league) obviously doesn't measure up. I can't hate the guy, he is what he is and what he lacks in pure football talent he at least attempts to make up for by playing hard on every down. It's not his fault he was drafted in the 8th spot and now has to live up to first-round expectations.
