Langston Walker was a more versatile and intellectual player.

Keep Whaley - and if he has to come, install Polian as the new Nix, purely as an advisor.

New game and new day doesn't mean the man doesn't know what makes a good football player. It doesn't mean he doesn't know what the league is now. He hasn't been out on a farm somewhere. He's been analyzing the NFL for ESPN since he retired. It's his business to know the league and its operations. He'll be fine. He's built everywhere he's gone. He's the Harbaugh of GM's. Buffalo, Carolina and Indianapolis all got much better under his watch; and fairly quickly at that.
Feel free to bust a nut in your trousers over the past, but I'm going to remain skeptical of nostalgia hires. As good as Polian was in some areas, he failed to address major areas in each of his stops. The net result of all his dynasty building was the Colts winning the bowl with the gift of a Rex Grossman handicap.
The key is to find the next Polian analog on the ascent, not the retread.

This smells like the Marv Levy gm hire. Bad idea. It''s a new game and a new day.
I fear the planets and Pegulas are in retrograde.

Will Erin bring a burlap bag, a can of axel grease and a cigar box of gravel? Then option one for sure.

The thought of a washed up Polian and his never-was kids in the front office is considerably worse than Whaley, IMO. People have a rose-colored memory of Polian here but he was a very stubborn personnel man. He knew he had huge weaknesses at NT and Safety...not the hardest positions to fill.....even before SBXXV and he refused to fill those positions with veterans for the duration of his time. Meanwhile, the strong NFC teams wheeled and dealed to keep their lineups thick...because they knew they had a window. Polian acted like there was always going to be next year and he almost spitefully stuck with Kelso and Jeff Wright and the NFC teams ate those guys alive in SB's. His work in Indy the last half of his time there was a shameful waste of a QB's talent. The current Broncos do a MUCH better job of putting players around Manning on a year-to-year basis. He also said that Dick Jauron was his second choice before hiring Tony Dungy. Polian DOES NOT like opinionated coaches, media or fans and frankly 20 years of Jim Kelly and Peyton Manning and only one SB win......not enough.
I've always wondered if the 1991 version of Ted Washington, when he was not quite a mountain, would have put them over the top.

He'll go to the CFL, put up 20 sacks while leading the Brandon Wheat Kings to the Grey Cup.
He'll receive interest from the Bills but will spurn them for the Dolphins.

The team was prepared every single week and it showed. He has hired a great staff (especially on defense) and has won games with 3 different QBs. Two of which are no longer in the NFL.
If you cannot see the toughness and will to win this team has compared to years past, you simply are not paying attention. Marrone is far from perfect, but he is the bets coach we have had here in a long time and frankly its not close
Prepared for what? To score 10 offensive tds over a season? The talent has improved - is Marrone responsible for that? Did he get the most out of the available talent? Did he coach up or give up on certain players? Pettine and Schwartz are known quantities - he gets credit for that?. He was an offensive coordinator - yes? Where was the whiz-bang?
Is the Talent level, which is the best in recent memory, or the coach? This coach?

Sal credentials atleast include some high school coaching ....wtf are Joe B's?????????
I don't see how being a coaching assistant bolters credentials in discussing the pro game. In fact, I think it's completely overblown. Sal is underwhelming like most of the gr staff. He is a homer who got his dream job rubbing elbows with the jocks he adores. It is impossible to listen to him without constantly hearing about his son, Syracuse, or twitter. Horrible radio.
Joe B reminds me of the dude in the student council in hs that doffs the suit every day to look the part but does little to hone his craft. Take some speech lessons and writing courses, Captain Equivocation. Belongs in Elmira for seasoning.

What exactly is special about Marrone? Why would a troglodyte in an age of innovation be so in demand? Because the nfl is conservative by nature and likes to recycle the same names from the same septic tank?
What exactly has Marrone brought the team - he isn;t a strategist, he doesn;t seem to use statistics to guide decisions where applicable, and he hired a jv coach to guide his offense. Did he get more with less or less with more this year?
Outside of guys liking to play for him (allegedly) what is the special sauce in his game? The dude in arizona won with 14 different quarterbacks: what dexterity does Marrone display that would give anyone great confidence (when facing Belichek with the game on the line and someone other than Janeane Garofalo at qb) that he can get it done?

The tight end discussion starts and ends with a competent qb.
Having Gronk or Graham on this team is like a straight guy having an erection in a monastery.

Mostly because you were home schooled.
Do you not count Jesus as a friend?

Teenagers didn't have Facebook and Twitter to plaster these stories all over.
Well facbook or not, I was receptive to like overtures but never got offered the p t&a.

They were probably just more discrete back in the day.
Should've had a billboard.

Where were all the moms and teachers doing this kind of stuff in the 80's? Must of skipped a generation.

When a player can't hold his own, the excuse falls to the players around him.

These conversations usually morph into cries for other positions of need. They don't need a te or other skill positions. They need a guy who is capable of making all NFL level throws with regularity.
Kembrell freaking Thompkins went 5/90 with Carr throwing to him.
Does anyone doubt that Watkins would have had 1300 yds if he had a real qb throwing to him? Or Woods 1K ?
The Bills would be vastly better with Derek Carr.

I'd give Michigan a mid-round draft pick to seal the deal.

Hmmm ... Tough call but my gut says yes. At least one win. Marino never really had the running game factor those Bills teams did. Neither QB had any mobility, Marino's arm was ridiculous. In most of the SBs Bills defense was overmatched vs power ground game of the NFC teams. Very difficult to say but I'd have to think Marino makes a few pass plays that are difference makers.
I agree with you. I think the Bills pull out two with Marino. Kelly was not at his best on the biggest stage.
-
Polian had nothing to do with drafting Jim Kelly. In fact, if you remember an ESPN special a few months ago about the '83 draft, the Bills front office came off as absolute idiots. They had the #12 and #14 picks and liked both Marino and Kelly. So instead of making a determination which one was better or which was more likely to sign with Buffalo (hello - both Kelly and Marino were Pittsburgh guys. Marino went to Pitt, Kelly to Miami. Again, hello!!) they figured one or the other would be there at #14 and picked Tony Hunter at #12. Morons.
Do the Bills win SB(s) with the exact same teams with Marino at QB instead of Kelly?
-
Also maybe because the defense is super talented and the offense, well, isn't.
This is a 12-4 team with a professional qb and competent oc. The skill positions are there save qb.

The KO return game is the only area that may benefit from CJ's return.

Move the Cards back to St.Louis.

Tag him and deal him.

Why do you think an offensive scheme based on the 1988 Washington Redskins should be successful in the 2015 NFL?
