  1.

many would signed Mario but no one would stuck with Fitz, he was (is) a career backup for a reason, he simply doesn't have the talent to be a NFL starter.

I totally disagree, look at delhomme, Derek Anderson, etc.

Would u rather have Matt Fllynn, Carson Palmer, Kolb, Cassel, Romo?

Or we could have Locker, Gabbert, McaCoy, Tebow.

How did all of those decisions made by those GMs work out?

If you go into it thinking his play was going to be consistent (from Buddy's point of view) then yes there was a GM or 2 that would have done the same exact thing.

  2. Fitz was signed after what, 8 total good games? 2 at the end of one season and 6 in the next. Why not make him lead us to the playoffs to get an extension? Only an idiot would have resigned him when they did. And .....

If he leads you to the playoffs and looks as good as he did (no one in a production business expects to suck or someone they employ will start to suck) you pay him top money or franchise him. Buddy took a chance and it was the wrong one. It's the same mistake many GMs have made.

I don't understand this mentality at all. Was there some chance that another team was going to steal him in mid-season if the Bills didn't rush to throw a huge contract at him after five games? There was no reason to offer him a contract mid-season.

This was the worst contract decision since Notre Dame gave Charlie Weiss a ten year extension halfway through his first season.

No but his price was only going up in Buddy's eyes, the closer they got to the end of the year.

  3. Fitz is like a rookie pitcher. Sure, he may strike out the side the first time through the rotation, but later on hitters are going to adjust. Defenses know his limitations with the deep ball and have adjusted. I just wish Buddy had waited until the second time through the lineup before offering that contract.

Buddy took a chance (the right one IMO). If he played as well as he did the rest of the year as he did in the first half you were paying him top qb money or franchising him. I say he did the right thing at that point. I hate Fitz right now but I still agree with the move at THAT time.

  4. I don't mean to start crap with anyone because all Bills fans have a right to be negative and a right to be pissed at the current situation.

The thing I don't understand though is how anyone views the Mario signing as a dumb/stupid decision. Lets be honest, there were several teams that would have gladly signed him to the same contract we gave him, we just got the first chance.

Fitz sucks now but Buddy took a chance on a QB we all saw play at a very high level and occasionally a low level. Point is they thought they knew what they were signing up for which is more than Seattle knows about Flynn, or Arizona Kolb or Cleveland Derek Anderson, etc.

It seems as though people will easily criticize moves that haven't worked out perfect but many other GM's would have done the same exact thing.

    Just a thought...

  5. I have seen only 1 of my teams win a title. The Syracuse Orangeman B-ball team. It was an amazing feeling because I knew how bad my teams have been in every other team/sport I have pulled for.

    Bills

    Sabres

    Cuse Bball

    ND Football

Orioles Baseball (I'm not a big baseball fan but their affilitation with the Rochester Redwings did it for me)

I don't count pro basketball because growing up I liked the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan (Didn't everyone though...kind of America's bandwagon team at that time)

Needless to say a championship out of the Bills would be #1 on my list with the Sabres number 2. I would love to see Notre Dame Football contend as well.

  6. So Peyton Manning throws a 5 yard pass that goes 80 yards. Peyton Manning had a 5 yard pass?

This thread is stupid. It doesnt work this way. He did not throw 39 yards.

Ps. If someone posted a similar answer, my apologies.

This isn't a stupid thread because when I watch Peyton Manning he throws the ball 15 or 20 yards down the field and completes it. Your right he may throw 5 or 6 passes that travel a few yards, but Fitz' YAC is absurd from Sunday's game.

  7. "Sure he walked away with figures that didn’t disgust the eye balls, but averaging just 4.8 yards per attempt should tell you what he’s become to this offense. An obstacle that needs to be managed so that he doesn’t inflict damage on the rest of the unit. Of his 153 yards, 114 of them came after the catch, and he was lucky not to walk away with a pick with 14:06 to go in the second quarter when William Gay dropped a possible interception. That now makes it four of six games were he’s walked away with a grade in the red."

So Fitz through for 39 yards in the air on 18 completions? I can't even fathom how bad that is. I mean that tells me that every pass he through pretty much was a screen play. It's crazy to think the numbers are that low and the offense is boxed into what Sunday was. I honestly didn't think Gailey would change QB's with numbers that bad but maybe he has to consider something else.

  8. I am confused why everyone is acting like we have 0 wins and are the worst team in football? We played a disgraceful half of football last week and got blown out by them team many people had going undefeated this year. The Patriots weren't slipping...they lost 2 games by less than a field goal... didn't exactly get killed. They are a really good team.

I in no way think Gailey has lost this team. there are going to be bumps in the road and plain and simple this isn't a 10 or 11 win team. I still think we win 9 and maybe thats enough to get into a wildcard, maybe its not. 9 wins is what I expected and still expect.

  9. I totally disagree with the idea Stevie and Fitz is played out the throws have to be there.

So the Niners are having trouble covering tight ends in the red zone? I seem to remember that being an issue for us.... Who is that safety that played for us, who now pays for them who kinda runs his mouth a lot? Oh yea Whitner... Should be a big day for Scott Chandler.

  10. Sorry, but these "stats" do nothing to prove your vague point. There is no comparison level here. I'm pretty sure other good pass rushers also don't get a sack in EVERY game. Those numbers and the production look pretty good to me.

I would have liked to see more from Williams at this point, but it's still a little early to be freaking out.

I am in no way freaking out. I guess my point was that most pass rushers are streaky. Mario has been streaky his whole career and I think that is to be expected this year. I just found it interesting that so many of his sacks came in so few games.

  11. While I personally know you can't just judge a players success on their sack number lets looks at that for his year by year for his career.

2006 - He had 4.5 sacks his rookie season and they all came in a 5 game stretch. Where he has 1.5, 0, 1,1,1.

2007- He had 14 sacks. 8 of his sack came in 3 games. He season split looks like this: 2,0,0,0,1,0,0,1,0,1,1,2.5,1,3.5,1, 0

    2008- He had 12 sacks. He had 3 - 2 sack games and 1 3 sack game. Here's his season: 2,0,0,2,2,0,1,1,0,0,0,3,0,0,0,1

    2009- He had 9 sacks - 1 - 2 sack game: 0,1,0,1,0,0,1,0,1,0,1,1,2,0,0,1

    2010- 8.5 sacks with a 3 sack game and 2 sack game. 1,3,0,1,0,0,0,.5,0,2,1,0,0 (played in 13 games)

    2011 - 5 sacks in 5 games he played in before injury...he had 2 - 2 sack games: 2,0,0,2,1

2012- Through 4 games he has 1.5 sacks that came in 1 game.

So if we are ONLY looking at SACK numbers Mario Williams has 54.5 career sacks. He has played in 86 games by my count. Out of those games he has had sacks in only 38 of them. That is 44%.

35.5 of those sacks have come in just 14 games. That leaves 19 sacks in the other 72 games he has played in.

If we are judging only sack numbers because that's all the time I have to do you can see Mario is a VERY streaky player. If we looked at this ahead of time we would have known this, but I am sure most didn't realize just how streaky his sacks are.

I am not defending him, or saying he sucks, just simply looking at his career stats.

I can draw this conclusion: Mario will have 2 or 3 more multi sack games this year and finish with around 10 sacks. That will leave 12 games where he has no sacks or 1 sack.

  12. I watched Stevie most of the day and he got open a lot. The thing I notice is more than half the time Stevie is set alone with the doubles or trips set opposite him. Seems to me fitz reads the opposite side of the field before checking to Stevie. You could tell by the third quarter Stevie was very frustrated with nt getting the ball.

This is a link to an interview with Bryan O'Leary who wrote the book Spygate: The Untold Story. I read the preview on Amazon.com and it looks very interesting.

This talks about how all of the materials were destroyed right at the Patriots facility without even reviewing them. It also mentioned about how the Patriots messed around with radio signals where the Patriots had an over ride in Brady's helmet where they could talk to him all the way to the snap.

This sounds a lot more messy than it was portrayed and pisses me off that it was covered up the way it was.

It is crazy to look at this and bounty gate and look at the vast difference in punishment and coverage...it's total BS.

Just thought I'd share this since it's Patriots week.
