What do scouts see? One who works the Big 12 told me Sunday he feels that, though Austin's short-area quickness and instincts make him a better prospect, the biggest difference between the two might be that the coaches at West Virginia found a way to capitalize on Austin's rare ability while the coaches at Texas simply couldn't do the same with Goodwin.

  2. I was at the game with my cousin Joe and his friend (can't remember his name)...but I do remember he was an Oilers fan! He was actually a good guy. Didn't even gloat when the Oilers were up. But he definitely heard it from the crowd with every Bills score. We stayed the whole game...I have no idea why but we were so glad we did.

I'll never forget the look on his face at the final whistle.

  3. Yeah, that's why I asked, it's the only way it makes logical sense to me... it was a gamble, and then it didn't work, so they took their next choice?

Earlier in the draft Eisen was explaining that the team drafting is required to show their draft card to the team drafting directly after them. So Houston had to show their card to the Bills before the Bills picked.

  4. I honestly think that issue was more Fox than the announcers.

Here's an example: watching with an Iggles fan and he noted that they showed the wrong name on the graphic for their place kicker. Granted, their kicker (Alex) and punter (Chas) have the same last name (Henry) but...really?

No one did any research on that? Amateurish if you ask me.

  5. I live in Boston as well and hosted 5 Pats* fans to watch the Bills game last weekend. ONE (atypical) guy was knowledgeable of both the Bills & Pats* teams. After Brady threw the 4th pick, another guy actually called for them to "put in Matt Cassel". This is the typical New England sports fan.

My fiance knows more about the Pats* than the typical Brady-jersey wearing Pedroia look-alike...and she's a Bills fan!!

Hello Mort. C'mon Mort give us your feelings towards the New Bills. Thanks Ed

Ed. they're fun to watch and easy to root for. The "reject" team - few people gave Chan Gailey any respect when he has one of the most impressive coaching resumes in the NFL. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Stevie Johnson, 7th rounders. Fred Jackson, undrafted. Bunch of guys like that. The problem is sustainability and franchise stability. It's something the late great GM John Butler worried about and expressed to me when he left for San Diego. Will the Bills do what's necessary to keep the core players as they build going forward? And don't panic if things hit a few bumps. In the meantime, enjoy the moment. Lot of people around the league are rooting for them and the Lions.

So Mort is questioning sustainability (ridiculous IMO) and stability from someone who left over 10 years ago?

  7. I wish I could say I were surprised by the lack of research, but its par for the course for Jamie and Marshall. It literally took me 30 seconds to find this quote from Buddy...

“Marcell is an exceptional athlete, he plays everywhere, he smart,” said Nix. ”He’ll be a defensive end in a 34 and play there on first and second down. In nickel he’ll play inside with Kyle Williams.”

    Pathetic.

Here's the link for that quote.

  8. bull ****. Squats are NOT bad for the knees or back. Just like anything if you do it stupidly then you are gonna get hurt. And Olympic style lifts are now the thing to be doing.

Agree 100%. Power lifting moves were considered primitive but have become en vogue again because they recruit more muscle groups into their movements. Isolation exercises are becoming less popular, arguably because they put unnecessary strain on a single joint. I'd also argue that when done correctly, squat are the singular best exercise to increase lower body strength (quads, hips and glutes), not to mention increased bone mass and thus strength.
