  1. Nothing could be further from the truth. If the Bills wanted to, they could release Fitz before the seventh day of the next league year and only be on the hook for the $10m bonus he got upon signing the new deal plus his 3.22m salary for this year. Doubt that happens, but the Bills could do it if they wished.

They can also draft a franchise QB if they wish and groom him for 3 years as Fitz is only guaranteed 24m over those three seasons and, with the new rookie wage caps in place, they could comfortably carry both on their roster.

Fitz's new deal was good for both sides. Fitz will either grow into that franchise QB or be gone within three years while the Bills won't be hamstrung by the numbers.

    GO BILLS!!!

So what you are saying is we have at least 3 more years until we get a franchise quarterback? Oh Joy? But hey what is the difference between 11 years and 14 years of losing?

when did i say i was content with losing???

fitz may not be the hall of fame qb you're expecting, but we have bigger issues first.

If you are convinced he already is a franchise quarterback (as you corrected my post to read), then yes you are content with losing if you truly believe that.

  2. you want a bunch of yes sirs and yes mams??? some people go overboard. i'll give you that. but everyone should be open to critism or else why post?

First you offend someones momma, then you want to close the thread. HELL NO. now you have to live with it ptr.

    fixed.

Your standards are very low for a franchise quarterback. No wonder you are content with losing.

  3. I've been trying to do some research online to see who some of the key FA Defensive Ends will be this offseason, but I can't seem to find any info. Just wondering if anybody may have a site and/or information to find out free-agents for next year. In my opinion, a key pass-rusher should be prioity number 1 this offseason whether its via the draft or free-agency. I'd much rather see the Bills sign a free-agent DE rather than draft one, though, given Nix's dreadful drafting ability.

Nix hopefully can learn how to draft, because he said it himself when free agency starts he is home sleeping. He has to be one of the worst, if not the worst, GMs in the league-agree with you there.

Do you honestly think free agents would come to our team considering what happens here?

We got lucky with a few this season, but now everyone sees that even when we get a few pickups, we still suck.

What free agents did we sign that were being chased by other teams? Barnett has turned out to be a steal, but he was available during training camp and wasn't signed. Nobody else wanted Merriman. Chandler had about 2 career catches before this year.

  4. AGREED there, my man.

But I was referring to the way they were acquired. If the Bills dont want to pay black players, why would they sign black FA's whose prices are higher than draft picks. Just absurd logic.

No doubt. Brad Smith, Merriman, the list goes on and on. To be quite honest, this team would be even worse then they already are if they signed players based on race.

  5. And it's also as ignorant as it accuses the Bills to be.

What about McGee and Parrish? What about the fact that Fletcher was a FA? So was Spikes. What about the fact that the Bills approached Jackson's camp in the preseason and it was Freddie who said he wanted to wait until after the season? Same with Stevie after talks early in the season stalled...

Spikes didn't leave here as a free agent, he was traded, but I do agree with you, that was a very dumb post. Bills are alot of bad things, but racists? I would wonder more if the person who accuses the Bills of being racists, themselves being that way more then the organization.

  6. I cant wait til you idiots start complaining once Stevie leaves in FA and start blaming Ralph and Buddy.

Kind of like you guys ran Marshawn out of town, now look at him...

No fan or group of fans has ever ran anyone out of town, kept someone in town or brought someone in town. NFL franchises, and especially the Buffalo Bills couldn't give a care less what their fans think, especially when it comes to personnel decisions.

It was horrible all those years when Thurman would score and then hand the ball to the ref also. Couldn't he have come up with some kind of dance to celebrate?

As he said in his HOF speech, he did celebrate the first time he scored. Marv Levy jumped his ass and told him to "Act Like You Have Been There Before" and he never did again. Now that is class. Even Thurman mentioned how that little thing from Marv helped him grow up. Not sure if Johnson will ever grow up, but then again he will never be half the player Thurman was either.

  7. The point of football is...

    1) Fun

    2) Winning

That's how I've always seen it anyway. To me, seeing the Bills win is secondary to taking Sunday off to veg on the couch with some chips and guacamole and have some fun watching football. So when Stevie makes me laugh like that, it's 100% a positive.

If you accomplish #2 on your list-#1 comes automatically. So in theory you have them backwards.

  8. Yes, Ralph is cheap. That is my question it goes against everything the BILLS stand for so was trying to determine the logic.

Don't mind Dr. Dareustink he trolls just to criticize other posters with not much useful input to any subject himself. I do agree with you on the Fitz subject. I heard on NFL Network a month or so ago, that you never extend an "up and coming" quarterback during the season in which he is "up and coming." Kinda like buying a car without taking it for a test drive, you paid for it now you are stuck with it and the poor performance. The way Fitz is playing for a good portion of the season, we wouldn't have had too much competition for him, certainly nobody else would have given a career backup that will always only be a very good backup the kind of bucks that the Bills did.

  9. I heard that interview. The only thing I'd add to your comments is that Rome set up the whole interview around getting him talking and see what he'd say about the Bills. He asked twice about why he wasn't successful with the Bills, and Maybin adamantly answered that he worked as hard as he could. It wasn't fun to listen to an interview about how the Jets can utilize talent the Bills can't, but he answered it respectfully.

It is called coaching and game planning.

  10. Yesterday on the CBS pre-show, one of the CBS announcers was talking with Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress about Stevie Johnson's TD Celebration (where Johnson imitated shooting himself in the leg, ala Burress). Holmes stated (somewhere along these lines), "first off, he's playing for the Buffalo Bills..." With they way Holmes said [Johnson] is playing for the Buffalo Bills, he said it in a disrespectful manner (meaning playing for the lowly Bills) and disrespecting Johnson.

Are the Bills going to lie down and take this the next time they play the Jets next year or are they going to step up?

Whatever? What did he say that hasn't been said a million times already, and deservedly so.

  11. I have no problem getting rid of George Edwards, but I think Nix & Gailey are valuable to keep.

Getting rid of the GM & Head coach to start all over would be ridiculous.

What is so valuable about Nix? In my opinion it is one of the worst hires that Ralph has made to this point. He has almost totally blown his first two drafts, with a couple players still having a little light at the end of the NFL tunnel at best. He made it known that when free agency started last year he was going to be home sleeping. No team nowadays can be built entirely by the draft, especially when you don't know how to draft. Call me crazy but normally a personnel genius doesn't get his first big break at the tender age of 70. Ralph is a big problem in this organization, we all know, but he isn't going any where until he passes. Nix is the next big stumbling block in this organization, he has made so many personnel blunders in under two years, he might be the worst GM in franchise history already.

  12. First off, this is a total layman's perspective...and I don't even know if I'm right:

Even if we win out, the rest of the AFC "world," that are still in the hunt need to go sub .500 for us to get the wild card...

The "Prop" Jets, need to lose 3 of 4 against KC, Philly, G-Men & Miami...need a miracle here.

Cinci needs to lose 3 of 4 against St. Louis, AZ, Houston & Baltimore...50/50 on this one.

Tennessee needs to lose 3 of 4 against Indi, JAX, NO & Houston...need Indi or JAX to steal one.

Denver needs to lose 2 more....assuming we're one, it's likely that the other could come to *NE, Chicago or even KC...well, maybe not KC.

Oakland needs to lose 2 more...this is the most likely scenario with GB, Detroit, KC & San Diego left on their schedule.

All in all, not much of a glimmer of hope here, but maybe Santa will be good to all of us here in Buffalo.

And monkeys will fly out of my butt? :bag:

  13. Amazing that a team that finished with 3rd pick in draft ends up with a schedule like this. I think that SJ handing the ball to the ref maybe part of the growing up process. He made some clutch grabs last weekend

If he had just went over and handed the ball to the official I would have applauded Johnson for trying to grow up. That obviously wasnt the case though, he did whatever that waddle was acting like a kid that just got punished with his head down. Can this guy to anything without trying to draw individual attention to himself-in a team game. It doesnt really matter because in 2 or 3 months, posts on him will be whether it was smart for the Bills not to resign him. I say let him walk.

I had no problem with the waddle...and I like Steve Johnson.

What I didn't like, was the piece that they did on him on the ESPN pre-game show on Sunday. The peice was sort of a travlouge of all Steve Johnson's "controversies" since emerging in the NFL. All the dances were there, and PC snippets, tweets blaming god for his lack of concentration...we knew all that. What bothered me, Steve Johnson was interviewed for the piece itself, and appeared to be relishing all the attention that his mishaps seem to have given him. He explains each mis-hap (and admittedly, some things like "Why So Serious?" were funny, and I even got a chuckle out of the Plaxico thing), justifieng it, and sums it up with the cliche "I just like to have fun with it...pretty much what you see is what you get...that is just me." If the guy wasn't a Buffalo Bill, most would be writing him off as another self-centered wide receiver.

I think there is overreaction to most of the things he (and other WR's) do, but they have to know that overreaction is there. To continue to carry on, at the cost of your team, and a slap on the wrist fine, kind of says that you really care more about how you present yourself, than you do about how you represent your team. That may be fine Monday through Saturday, but Sunday, you are Buffalo Bill, Steve Johnson. Not Steve Johnson of the Buffalo Bills.

That is my point exactly. I am not saying he isn't a good guy, in fact I met him his rookie season at camp and he stayed and chatted with us for awhile. It seems like he just cannot understand the concept of a "team" game, and is in such dire need for attention to himself that it often lately has affected the entire team. It scared me that he is acting just like a young Chad Ocho Stinko, and is in love with himself too much that it puts the Buffalo Bills way on the back burner. With most players and us fans the Bills either win or lose, with him it appears that his win or lose is only dependent on what he did that game and whether he was able to act a fool and get attention.

  14. Well, as long as we are whipping the dogs on this team it brings me to ask all Buffalo Bills fans an honest question. Has Marcell Dareus lived up to your expectations this year? I will answer it with a NO. I sure expected him to be way more dominate on the D line for us. He showed some flashes in a game or two and that's been about it. I thought he was going to be that run stopper up the middle for us and I just haven't seen it yet. Our defense seems like it's worse than years past. WTF!

    Flame away!

Has he lived up to the expectations of the #3 pick overall, no, clearly not. Am I ready to give up on him yet? Clearly no to that question also. He could without a doubt use some help around him, but will he get it with this front office in place? With this owner in place? Who knows. You rarely ever hear Dareus' name during a game anymore unless it is for a penalty. Let's just hope for the best, he might be the only hope of this front office actually hitting on one draft pick in the first two compelte drafts they have run here.

  15. Dr. D, you are certainly one of the most pleasant Pollyanna posters around but this response is lame. billsfreak is not happy that Fitz appears to be a little bit more than a stop gap but bf was called out for something that he was obviously right about. Accountability works both ways even if you don't agree with it.

Exactly, and my biggest problem now is Fitz is obviously no better then a stop gap, but because of this ingenious front office he is now forced to be a franchise quarterback, which he will never be. Alot of people on here don't understand your statement about accountability, to alot of people it is only in play when they are right. Thanks for your commons sense on this issue.

  16. If JW started this thread about any other poster than I would call foul. That being said, Promotional Robot has set this tone with his attacks on posters who he doesn't agree with. JW comes on this board to add OBJECTIVE INSIGHT into the Bills situation and then gets called out for his opinions. Well it turns out that he'sRIGHT so he's calling for a little redemption.

    Good for you JW.

Totally agreed. After about the second or third week this year, someone recalled a post from a couple years earlier after they signed Fitz, and called me out personally because I said I didn't think it was a great signing. They acted like Fitz was going to the Hall of Fame after two or three games and I was an idiot-who has the last laugh now?

  17. Why is Gailey so reluctant to run the damn ball...We started the game with 3 straight passes (all hitting Tennesse players in the hands) while one of them was an INT. Spiller was getting into his groove in the first half then after half time we only give him the ball 6 more times? I understand that Tenn was controlling the clock but when Fitz passes 46 times in a game we are screwed.....

I don't think he threw an interception, but you are correct in that it seemed like more of his passes his Titans hands then Bills hands. As far as Gailey, people on this board have been referring to him as a "Mastermind", don't see that much lately. You get what you pay for when it comes to Gailey & Nix.

i had had enough when we went down the field running the ball, ripping off good chunks and get to the red zone and throw it 3 times and kick a friggin field goal!!! some days i wish i was a patriots fan. at least they beat the teams they're supposed to beat

Except for the once in a decade when they lose to the Bills.

  18. To all the boneheads who think a guy who hadn't carried the ball more than 10 times a game was a bust, or not tough enough to play every down, or couldn't hit a hole, blah, blah, blah...

Why aren't you posting all that garbage now? It's still early in his career, and he's clearly shown he's got some real talent, so how about questioning the pick now?

Spiller is clearly the most talented guy on offense right now with Freddie out, and people around here STILL can't admit it was way off base to say we didn't need him. I'll even admit it's still a bit early to seek out all the Spiller bashers on this board, but you have to be short a few beans in your burrito to think the guy was a wasted pick.

The luxury pick comment still kills me, like this team was EVER deep enough to even warrant that notion, and don't try to rationalize it with the actual fact that marshawn(Least Mode, I want out of buffalo, I have stepped sideways more than I have forwards in my career) Lynch on the team at the time, we all know the guy wasn't going to be around long, and even if he was, he really wasn't that good anyway.

How about giving a guy the chance to play a few games before crucifying him around here, if you look back at even my posts, I wanted the team to give Aaron Maybin the chance to at least play a full game(I'm still not sayig what he is doing in NJ is all that amazing), I am just Sayin' to coin a phrase.

Dude, take a deep breath. One decent quarter of football doesn't all at once make him worthy of #9 pick overall. Almost two full seasons as a top ten pick, still no 100 yard games. He has talent, but as a full time #1, doubt it. One decent quarter or half doesn't wipe out 25 or so games of cluelessness. Nobody with common sense can argue that picking him wasn't a luxury pick, if you do you just sound dumb.

  19. These 70,80,90/100k seat stadiums are a tribute to days gone by. With more and more people enjoying the game from home. Ticket prices becoming out of control, maybe new stadiums should be 25-35k high-priced seats? These would be cheaper to make, they would guarantee your sell-outs and maximize TV viewing...

Do we really need stadiums the size of what we currently have?

It is normally only the teams that put poor quality on the field that have poor quality in ticket sales, and only some of them do. Why would they reduce it? They don't lose money by those seats being empty, but if they win they sell those extra tickets. It is all about money, only way they reduce seats is to have more room for luxury boxes that make them even more money.
