  1.

WGR and the local Bills beat reporters have been in such a free fall these last two weeks that I'm sure they're all in a state of denial. It's embarrassing how stupid they all sound sticking to their guns.

They don't even realize that they collectively overrated Matt Cassel because they're a bunch of small thinkers who were apparently very impressed by a journeyman backup QB who went to the pro bowl 5 years ago...LOL

    ^^^^This

  2. Good they need to get a good look at EJ, Taylor got a good look the week before, it's time EJ gets work in with the first team.

Perhaps this was the plan all along. I think we can all agree that EJ has needed the most development of all three. Work him for most of camp with the 2s & 3s to get more more consistent in the basics before being thrown into a more complex game situation. Then see how he does. If he does well, we might very possibly have the guy we've been looking for sitting immediately behind whomever starts the season (Tyrod, IMO). Cassel is strictly for insurance, I think.

  3. Is anyone paying attention to the reports coming out of camp? Ryan says there's every possibility that they'll keep all three QBs. He also said they'd keep the best 53 regardless of position (that's a bit of a stretch, IMO), but considering that they are now seeing solid play out of all three I see this as a very real possibility. More development time for EJ.

    So did Tannehill...

Who is now a solid QB (with a new contract, mind you). He looked just like EJ and possibly worse. The thing is that Tannehill was allowed to play through his growing pains.

  4. I wholeheartedly agree with this. Many want to close the book on EJ but he's not any different than most QBs of the not so distant past (and present). It was once expected that the first round QB you picked would sit and learn behind an established vet for 3-4 years before getting his shot. We haven't had that and said situation is a rarity in today's league. I have this sinking feeling that if we cut him loose that he'll finally catch fire elsewhere in a year or two.

    I don't think this is a smokescreen.

What would be wrong with having an exciting starter with playmaking ability (Taylor), a veteran backup (Cassel), and a developmental QB (Manuel)? I understand EJ's pedigree as a 1st round pick, but the truth is that he is better right now than he was at this point in 2013 or 2014. He IS coming along, albeit slowly. In the meantime, Whaley has done his job and improved the position.

I believe Taylor should start, but I don't understand the rush to judgment around this kid when it isn't necessary. Why do we have to "close the book" on EJ? He is 25, the money is controlled, he made the best throw of the night last week, he keeps his mouth shut, both the QBs in front of him are in danger of getting hurt, and I'm not ready to give up on him. I know that Rex isn't emotionally invested in him and Whaley might like to connect the pick to Buddy, but I don't think that means they need to show him the door.

Ultimately, the Bills are in an interesting situation, where they might have three of the top 45 QBs in the league right now, but none of the top 20 or 25.

  5. WOW,How stupid can they be..This HAS to be a joke.

No joke. Being reported all over. Was listening on Sirius this morning and they were saying that he was having a decent camp and that the Bills and the Jags were the only likely teams that would be interested but opined that IK would be out of football for some time. Guess not. Rex must know something about this kid.

  6. Well, all I'll say is this: at the very least, on the wake of the scrimmage which was supposed to be important in picking a starter, can we admit that Cassel has sucked.

    Seriously sucked.

I don't know if EJ or Tyrod are great but they sound leaps and bounds better than Cassel.

Agree. IMO, Rex is starting Cassel in the first preseason game to give him a chance to either win the job outright against the opponent's first team or prepare to backup one of the other two. Cassel is the experienced vet and if he doesn't put in a performance that is significantly better than EJ and Tyrod, why give him the job ahead of two younger guys who have more upside?

  7. Yeah this means nothing.

As long as he goes to court he will not miss a game

    CBF

Not so fast. First, he has to get a temporary restraining order/preliminary injunction putting the suspension in abeyance. One of the threshold questions is likelihood of success on the merits. That is seriously in question with the revelation of the destruction of the cell phone. At a minimum, it will make for some interesting argument.
