Something else when you come to think of it.  The Bill are in the playoffs.......  So take this thread for what it is.

Every second guess this year, bad decision, questionable call and I am convinced that McDermott was wrong, yet not once did it come back to bite him in the ass.....

He is the luckiest coach I've ever seen (outside Belicheck and officaal calls and reversals).

6 times (Mia x 2, KC, Atl, TB, Indy) the opposition had the ball with a chance to win at the end of the game and the Bills somehow survived after giving up leads and letting teams back in the second half and each time the Bills got a break, a turnover or somehow held on.

Think about it.....  Miami we trounced twice for 40 minutes and then tried to give them a chance to win.

TB we got a fumble and then by luck converted a third & 7 with again a run to ice it.

Indy a missed fg, kicking from the 41, Brissett missing a wide open Hilton to give the Bills one more chance and 30 yards further to go,  and then Webb completing a 35 yd hail mary in the snow (yes I'll call it a hail mary).

Atl missing on 4th & 3 from the 7 (and a PI missed on the play).

    KC another Int.

I really can see the Bills up 13-0 vs. Jax and again trying to eat clock the entire second half and Bortles throwing another game ending int.....

Let's hope it lasts another week and then it is NE again.

And in past years, these things have gone against the Bills.  Enjoy the moment.

  2. Ian Rappoport said on NFLN that EJ is the likely starter and also mentioned that some in the organization still think he can become the franchise QB. Might just be Whaley, but who knows?

I think it's more than just Whaley. Rex did say that he wanted to develop EJ and from what we saw in preseason, that appeared to be exactly what they were doing. [no tea leaves were harmed in making this assessment]

  3. I think you need to play EJ...

Tyrod is hobbled and I have to think that playing with an MCL sprain makes a more serious knee injury more likely.

Tyrod has pretty much been ineffective passing the ball for a couple of games now. Let's let him heal up and see if EJ can play well. If so, we have a good problem. If not, we know about EJ going forward.

I don't see how putting out a busted up Tyrod helps anything.

    Exactly.

  4.

If EJ really lights it up, they won't take him out. I am not sure having Sammy changes that, though it's unfair to TT.

I seem to remember Rex saying that TT is the starter "for now" back around the time they made their decision. It hasn't been repeated to my knowledge but it did make my ears perk up when he said that. Made me think they were hoping that EJ would eventually be the longtime answer. I have been concerned the last couple of weeks with the number of TT's passes that appear to be higher than they should be when they reach the receiver. That's going to be a problem when teams figure out how to limit his running. Don't get me wrong, I like TT but there's stock in being able to see over the big guys up front.

  5. I'm sure he would be "tipped" generously for the information on his way out the door. Seriously though, have any players ever commented on this practice? Teams bringing in players for a "try out" in order to get information about an opponent? Seems to me like it happens frequently, and is kind of just part of the game.

Follow-up question as to whether or not this practice has actually borne fruit? It seems to me that as this happens fairly regularly, someone would have data on this.

  6. I'll play the game. In the following quote: What was going to follow the "....."?

"We brought Matt Cassel back,” Ryan said in an unscheduled meeting with reporters. “We said all along we like our three quarterbacks which is obvious. For your depth chart purposes Matt will be two, EJ [Manuel] will be three, but that means…. As I have said from day one we like all three of the guys and we never want to lose anybody obviously. So that is why we made the decision we did."

The "your depth chart" implies the one released to the media. The "but" implies that there is more to the depth chart than appearances. What that is, I do not know. But I will speculate for the fun of it. The Bills like to have Cassel with the ones in practices, running plays that are in the game plan. They think there is something of benefit to Tyrod to have Matt Cassel there with him during practices and reviewing the tape.

EJ will run the scout team because it's a better look for the D to defend a QB that can challenge them more and good for EJ because it gives him more reps that what the typical #2 gets. If they were actually going to miss/replace Tyrod for any significant amount of time, I don't know what the hell happens then. But if the answer to that is EJ, then what you have is an atypical #2/#3 situation which seems to be what Rex was starting to say and then didn't finish. #2 and #3 for the purposes of your (the press release roster) roster, but the Bills' situation is not what it seems. Somehow.

You may well be onto something, sir. Good post.

  7. The court ruling says no asterisk for Brady, but the Pats already have accepted a million $ fine and loss of some draft picks for violating the rule as an institution on the issue of trying to gain a competitive advantage by deflating footballs.

Indeed. My note was a bit cryptic though. #noasterisk is actually a reference to when we beat the pants off them Week 2 with Brady at the helm.
