  1. i enjoy listening to wgr. there are a number of personalities that are very enjoyable to listen to. some of my favorite moments have been jeremy white and sully absolutely going off on one another. love it when howard gets so mad he is about to explode, and yes, i enjoy mike schopp and the bulldog. you have to cut these guys some slack in regards to all sports all the time. right now there is absolutely nothing but a potential lockout in hockey and in football it is the preseason in all its glory. i understand why many people don't like certain personalities on the radio or television, but you can turn the station instead of listening to something you don't like.

Seconded. However, Schopp tends to get ridiculous when he ends up on long-winded BIlls rants. If I remember correctly, last summer he pretty much implied that Ralph had to die before this franchise would amount to anything.

That being said, I enjoy the non-sports aspects of the show the most. Yes, I appreciate GR's really solid sports analysis guys (Buscaglia is top-notch and Coach Sal is the man) but Greg Bauch is one of the funniest dudes on the planet and Schopp, Bulldog, and Bauch put together some really good banter. Dan Fisher is also hilarious and the morning show is always really solid.

And don't say you didn't love the animal draft.

  2. After having attended many games in the Rock Pile section with friends over the years, I took the plunge and bought seasons with one of my best buddies. So stoked. It's always a drunken, wild time. Definitely a young (at heart) person's game

  3. I was born and raised in Buffalo, and moved back here after college. But the funny thing is, I didn't really care about the Bills until I went away for school. They were always so middling in my teenage years (the 2000s) that they had no real impact on my life.

Only when I was living in another city surrounded by football fans from all over the country did I realize how important the Bills are to this region's identity and sense of place. The Bills, in a way unlike many other NFL teams, have become shorthand for the City of Buffalo at large.

I guess this is a long-winded way of saying that while I believe that the entry way for true fandom begins with passion for the team no matter where you're from, being from Buffalo and still living in the area has enriched my appreciation for how much the team means to me on a personal level. Which leads me to my next point...

Come back if you can! Or if you aren't an ex-pat, try to make your way to Buffalo as often as life permits. I know economic realities have driven a lot of good, hard-working people away, but there are so many exciting things happening here and I can't wait to see what the area grows into in the next few years. Take care of your family and life first, but if you have the ability and opportunity, make your way to Buffalo. You probably haven't had a good wing in a while, Dyngus Day is a riot, and WGR's a whole lot more tolerable now that they're the Bills' flagship network.

Hope to see some more of you guys around the 716 on football Sundays!

  4. First time season ticket owner. My buddy's getting back from active duty in the Middle East in June, so the two of us thought "what the hell?" and got seats in the Rock Pile (section 243) together, fully expecting SJ13 to take a walk, a 5-11 season, and another bout of soul-crushing misery.

And then...they cut the prices for seasons by a hundred bucks, re-sign Stevie, and may pull in the biggest free agent haul in the past 20 years of the franchise. Safe to say that even without watching a game being played, the investment in the franchise is already worth the price and then some.

  5. Yesterday reminded me of 2008. Out like a flash, a few fake field goals and last minute miracle comebacks and everyone is thinking Pro Bowl for the QB and a walk to the playoffs. Then the good teams show up, a few injuries hit and the magic goes away. Lose 4 out of 6, your a game under .500 and its over before December. Looks that way this year. 7-9 maybe just good enough for 8-8. See you at the draft.

The Bills didn't beat the Pats in 2008. So no matter what happens this year, for me, it trumps that season.

  6. News flash - - although there are exceptions, in general most of the newer posters are the ones who believe Spags is trolling, while the more experienced posters play along. When the wax-eating Sorceror posts, it's exactly the opposite. Think about that for a minute (or go ask somebody) and get back to us.

Spags is essentially Ed McMahon, allowing the rest of us to try to be Johnny Carson making fun of the Jets. If you're into Madden, you'll just have to google it.

Ha, I don't follow those posts/threads enough to be in on the joke. My bad.

    Commence the comedy.

  7. I agree that the refs have been horrible so far this year, but no need to preemptively moan about them before the game is even played. They teams will just go out there and play, and if the refs are bad, I'm sure we'll find something to B word about.

  8. Hate to say it, but I think both the Bills and Sabres may not make the playoffs. After good starts both teams appear to be reeling.

Sabres: Any team that loses back to back games to Tampa Bay does not warrant a playoff appearance. That is absolutely unacceptable. Couple that with the pathetic performance against Carolina at home and I see no playoffs. This team has not scored more than 4 goals in a game since game two. They have yet to win at home. They look way over rated. All that money given away and I see a team that has not improved from last year.

Bills: With Merriman gone, Williams perhaps done for the year and Bell struggling with a shoulder problem coupled with a defense that can't sack the quarterback, stop the run or stop the pass how does this team make the playoffs? I for one do not give Fitzpatrick a new contract yet. Let him play out the season. I am still not convinced he can lead this team to the playoffs let alone a super bowl. His interceptions have led to two losses already. The last time we gave somebody a new contract mid season after a good start (Jauron) was an epic failure the rest of the year and beyond. Great job signing Merriman to a two year contract. What a waste. We will pay him nearly 10 million dollars for one sack and nine tackles. That's nearly as bad as Maybin.

Don't get me wrong, I hope I'm wrong and just sour and pissed off about Buffalo sports performing pathetically the last two weeks. But things don't look good. If the Bills lose this week, they are done and will not make the playoffs.

Try Beano, maybe the feeling will pass. Or possibly Vagisil... :pirate:

Remember that the Sabs were pretty much done last year until about late December/January and then made that furious push to get in. As for our beloved Bills, enjoy the ride while it lasts. Maybe they'll make the playoffs, maybe they won't. I was never expecting them to this year anyways but they've already supplied a myriad of happy surprises so far, to the point that I'll be able to smile on this season no matter how it ends.

Unless it ends with Fitzy, Stevie, and Freddie all in different uniforms. Then I'll be getting stabby. :censored:

  9. ...and getting a big ol' chip on their shoulder.

I keep hearing how 3-0 Detroit's defense is so much better than ours and I have to ask who have they played that has a decent offense?

KC - a team we demolished on our opener.

TB and MN - yeah, two offensive power houses there.

They have a beat up Dallas squad that is no where near where it was a few years ago.

You have to wait till the 24th before they finally get a team with a decent offense. If they can hang with Green Bay then maybe we can start talking about their defense.

At least with Oakland I can give them props - they played us tough down to the wire, and they ran the ball down the Jets throats to win following that cross-country heartbreaker. If they beat the crap out of NE I would be so freak'n happy - maybe Brady will shave his head bald after that

I'm with you. I might be in the minority but I actually think that Buffalo has an excellent defense that is being intelligently used. The Chiefs' game was an obvious squash match from the get-go and despite the vanilla play-calling, the D looked stellar. The Raiders' game was clearly a targeted match-up--Darren McFadden is an unreal talent that requires most of your defensive focus...ask the Jets how that goes. The fact that the Bills contained him as much as they did out of the backfield (3.6 yards a carry versus the 9 yards a carry the Jets gave up to him and the 6.8 yards a carry that the Broncos let up) is a huge testament to our run defense. Jason Campbell opening up and passing down the field like he did? Well, that's the sign of a good, balanced, dangerous team right there and boy am I glad we pulled a win out of there.

The New England game was obviously focused on Tom Brady. But it was impressive how the Bills shut down New England's underrated run game. Woodhead and Green-Ellis usually do so much damage simply having defenses respect Brady at QB, and often demoralize their opponents' with 5 and 6 yard runs to extend a drive. The Bills pretty much shut down the both of them with average yards per carry of 3.5 and 1.8, respectively). Meanwhile, they knew that Tom Brady was going to pass well--that's a given. Despite what you've seen when he plays the Jets, Brady usually gobbles up blitzes coming his way; his awareness is so high and his release is so effective that blitzes usually are a suicidal move. Rather, the defense had pressure on him and took away his passing lanes, forcing him to make inferior passes at certain points. That they capitalized on Brady's errors is the sign of a smart and opportunistic D.

I truly hope for and anticipate an impressive defense outing this weekend in Cincy, Lots of blitzes should be dialed up, with the Bengals lacking the type of players like Welker, Green-Ellis, and Woodhead who make blitzing look ridiculous. Ced Benson is a very solid RB and should be accounted for, but he's not Darren McFadden or even Jamaal Charles. Overwhelm the rookie QB early and shut down AJ Green, and if the offense gets the job done against a tough but beatable D, then you should have a good win on the resume for our boys.

    Go Bills!

    EDIT: accidentally double posted. whoops.

  10. This is a little ridiculous. Had the Bills not won this game, we would be savaging Fitz for that throw as an example of poor decision-making and unnecessary risk-taking. In fact, it might rightly have been called the backbreaker play that buried the Bills if not for some phenomenal gut-checking by this team in spite of, not because of, their earlier errors.

I love Fitzy as much as anyone but that was an ugly play. I'll give him credit when it's due but that play could have killed the game's momentum.

  11. Can't stand Cowherd. I think he's unlistenable. The local guys during my morning drive are really bland but I listen to them instead.

Typically can't stand opinionated, shyt-disturbing blowhards… and people who always think that they're right… who have zero humility.

    That's just me.

Earlier this week he was mocking the fact that Gailey's fan approval rating was 96%.

There was tons of implied negativity towards the Bills and skepticism of their performance so far this year.

I hate Cowherd. With a passion. I think he is a radio guy who only happens to report and comment on sports. His only dog in the fight is to appeal to the biggest markets and to try to be ridiculously contrarian.

That being said--let him talk smack. It's actually refreshing to hear someone with a dour opinion of the Bills. Yes they've won 3 games, but they haven't even finished 1/4th of the season yet. Win against Cincy and get some wins out of the NFC East (including over Colin's beloved Cowboys) and we'll be able to guage things a little better. Until then, it's fun hearing the jokers trot out their schtick about how overrated the Bills are...until the next time they win.

  12. In the NFL Replay show of the Pats* game, Eric Wood yelled "Big Sun" at Fitz as he chest-bumped him walking into the locker room. Then on the nfl.com Preview video for this week's game, they show a clip of Fitz in the huddle saying to the offense, "let's serve up a little Big Sun Special".

Anybody know what "Big Sun" refers to?

    My link

Hmmmm...my best guess would be something like a shorthand for "get big son"

  13. Schopp and the Bulldog are such lazy broadcasters. Every show is just a rehash of a canned topic they've already done one hundred times. Who's you're favorite Bill? What's your favorite Buffalo sports moment? And then if a caller tries to mention something that's actually in the news or something Schopp will cut them off and say "We're not talking about that today"?

They've gotten better with the Bills winning. Seriously. At least they're tolerable now.

  14. Boy, these Raider fans get one ugly win over a terrible Broncos team and all of a sudden they're insufferable.

We really had no receiving threats last year.... did that stop McFadden?

Do you think the Broncos game planned around Darrius Heyward-Bey?

    Or Chaz Schilens?

No, they didn't because they game planned around Darren McFadden and he still burned them for 150. So what makes you think the Bills would do any different?

Bush is of no real concern? I guess you didn't see him rip 3 straight runs of at least 8 yards in the 4th quarter to seal that Bronco game shut. Make no mistake, in a close game where McFadden has worn a defense down... NOBODY wants any business tackling Bush in the 4th quarter. I guess his 8 TD's in a backup role would be of no concern as well? Hopefully, the Bills will be able to hold the Raiders out of any goal line situation. Bush will be a problem.

Actually, if I was a Bills fan, I would welcome it. See if the Darreus hype is warranted.

We can play "this team vs that team" and compare matchups and prognosticate all we want.

One thing that is for sure... Darren McFadden is the best player on that field, for both teams, come Sunday. Period.
