Two Bills Drive

‘As he heads into the final year of his rookie deal, the production in 2024 was obviously there, but the question of whether he is truly a complete running back – one who can run between the tackles, outside, catch passes and be a trusted blocker, remains.’

‘No other team has been willing to do the same for their second-round rookie. The NFL’s collective bargaining agreement in 2011 implemented a rookie wage scale, which decided how much a draft pick could make based on when they were selected. Agents can negotiate guaranteed money and specific clauses, but their rookie clients’ salaries are already set.’

‘O’Cyrus Torrence is only two years into his four-year rookie contract, but he’s been a starter since the Bills selected the former Florida Gators lineman in the second round of the 2023 draft. He hasn’t missed a game during that span, logging 38 starts between the regular season and playoffs. Bills center Connor McGovern and left guard David Edwards are also one season away from free agency, but the team may prioritize Torrence given his age and pedigree.’

‘The Bills’ only question at tackle is how continuity can help this offense reach another level in 2025. Buffalo allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL last season, while, according to ESPN, Dawkins (93%, eighth) and Brown (92%, 15th) ranked among the best in pass-block win rate. As a team, the Bills were 17th in run-block win rate. Wider gaps in the defense would mean more explosive plays from Cook. The tackle tandem also needs to cut down on penalties after they combined for 21 in the regular season.’

‘“He’s probably, easily, been the happiest person in the building this whole offseason,” right tackle Spencer Brown said. “He hasn’t had a bad day yet, so it’s cool. I’m happy for him, because he’s always happy to see you and happy to help you.”’

‘Not to paint the fanbase with too large a brush, I think there is a notable (audible) portion that wants Sean McDermott gone, believing he can’t get the Bills over the hump. I’ll push back on that – I think McDermott can do it. Obviously, that opinion will linger – and maybe even spread – for as long as it takes McDermott to win a coveted Super Bowl. And yes, there have been coaching miscues in the playoffs along the way. Still, winning in this league is hard, and I think McDermott puts this team in the best position to do so.’
