Lewis, Fox coveted for defensive minds

‘Now, Fox and Lewis are hotter than hot. The Browns and Bills are set to go on the offensive Sunday night for Fox and Lewis. The Browns have the money. The Bills have a friend of theirs in high places — team president Tom Donahoe, who worked with Lewis and Fox in Pittsburgh.’

In race for Lewis, money may talk

‘But an NFL source said Friday the Browns have a blockbuster offer prepared to lay on Lewis, the Ravens’ defensive coordinator, as soon as Super Bowl XXXV is over. Lewis is the clear-cut No. 1 on the Browns’ list.’

Still King of the Block

Patriots owner Robert Kraft now has regrets about letting Sam Gash go. “Sam Gash was one of my favorite players,'' the Patriots owner said yesterday. “He's a tough, physical guy who was all about the team. You can't win consistently without leaders like that, guys who lead by example. You can't have guys who talk and don't perform." (Many Bills fans feel the same way Bob.)

Tagliabue Gives "State of the NFL" Address

Reading between the lines, Tagliabue pretty much says that in 2002 Buffalo will be playing in the AFC East with Miami, New England, and the Jets. The key segment is here: "On realignment, Tagliabue said discussions are continuing. They basically are focusing, according to NFL sources, on whether Houston or Baltimore stays in the AFC Central with Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. The edge goes to the Houston Texans going into the Central so that they are not in the same division as the old Houston franchise, the Tennessee Titans." This means that the Bills are out of the running for being in the AFC Central, and thus will stay in the East.

Tagliabue endorses Wilson, Levy for Hall of Fame

Bills still hurt 10 years later

‘It was that first one, though, that proved to be the football version of the big fish that got away because Buffalo never got nearly that close again. But … so what?’

Syracuse Post-Standard | Jan 26, 2001

Steinberg laments poor Rob in Buffalo

"If Rob throws an interception, Flutie would have thrown 12 touchdown passes. It’s even worse than Steve Young-Joe Montana because Montana actually was a real legend and led them to all those Super Bowls and Flutie hasn’t. So poor Rob, all he’s did was get traded from Jacksonville to there and done his best."
