From Lancaster to Bills starter, Joe Andreessen plans to learn from each snap in loss
‘“Expectations are still there. There’s not as much pressure, though. I had more of an open mindset going into today. I know what the preseason is like now. Not that it doesn’t matter, because it definitely does, but I know the reps mean more than the result.”’
Bills preseason opener: Whose stock went up? Whose stock went down? Here's an early look
‘Tyrell Shavers, wide receiver: A low ankle sprain early in training camp didn’t stifle Shavers’ momentum. He’s been among the Bills’ most impressive weapons in practice, and his momentum continued Saturday with his 58-yard catch to set up Caden Davis’ 24-yard field goal that cut the Giants’ lead to 16-10 with 4 seconds left in the second quarter.’
Behind the scenes of Josh Allen’s expanded partnership with New Era
‘Allen has partnered with New Era since his rookie year in 2018 and shoots ad campaigns every year with the company. But this elevates his role, making him more than just a company spokesperson.’
Observations: Little separation in Bills' backup quarterback race after preseason opener
‘A Kids Day crowd of 69,835 sweated through a real-feel temperature of 89 degrees at kickoff. The offense, led by quarterback Mitch Trubisky, didn’t give them much to cheer about on its first two series, gaining just one first down in the first quarter.’
Latest Bills depth chart projection after Week 1 of preseason: Which WR is a risk?
‘Cook continues to stay away because of his contract, and right now that’s fine because Davis needs the work. Outside of the extra point he made, it was not a great day for him on the ground and he needs to be better, especially if he shoulders a bigger burden should the Cook hold in extend much longer. Johnson looked very good on his three rush attempts, and Gilliam made a nice 19-yard pass reception.’
He hasn’t cut his hair in 7 years — and won’t if he makes the Buffalo Bills roster
‘That was the pact between Rogers and his best friend when they were freshmen at the University of Nebraska: no haircuts until both their football careers were over. They both kept it. His friend had to stop playing for medical reasons but still hasn’t picked up the scissors.’
Bills stock watch after preseason opener: Laviska Shenault, Tyrell Shavers rising
‘If Shenault makes the team it’ll be because of his versatility. Buffalo doesn’t have a clear-cut return specialist and four different players returned kicks or punts against the Giants. Shenault had the best return average on both, averaging 31 yards on two kickoff returns and taking one punt for 7 yards. He also had one catch for 17 yards and added a 2-point conversion reception from Mike White to give Buffalo a 25-24 lead in the fourth quarter.’
Buffalo Bills rookies Walker, Sanders, Hancock post standout PFF grades in preseason debut
‘Fellow defensive tackle T.J. Sanders earned an 82.0 grade. His highest sub-category grade came in pressure (78.3) after the analytics site credited him with one pressure and one quarterback hit.’
Bills’ roster hopeful won’t cut his hair if he makes Buffalo’s roster — his last haircut was 7 years ago
‘”It’s a promise we made,” Rogers said. “It signifies when we’re done. When we cut it, all the hair from here to here was all there when we started this thing. It shows all the hard work. I was able to get to the NFL, play in some games, achieve one of my dreams. When I cut it, it’ll signify I did it.”‘
Bills vs. Giants takeaways: Cook still absent, QB2 battle heats up
‘Mitch Trubisky and Mike White are vying to be Josh Allen’s understudy. Both quarterbacks performed well on Saturday.’

How Tyrell Shavers is elbowing into the Bills' depth chart
‘ It’s all informed the way Shavers thinks now, amid this pressing run to do something he hasn’t done yet: make a Week 1 roster. And when Buffalo’s pre-preseason depth chart came out Tuesday, where Shavers was slotted as a second-string receiver, this may finally be the year.’
Observations: Bills host Giants in preseason opener
‘Joey Bosa had a promising debut. After going through a lengthy solo workout on the field before the game, there was some question as to whether veteran edge rusher Joey Bosa would play in the Bills’ first exhibition. That question was answered on the team’s first defensive series, as Bosa was part of a defensive line that also included Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones at tackle and Greg Rousseau at the opposite edge rusher. Bosa put together a few strong rushes against Giants quarterback Russell Wilson on the game’s first drive, which was a promising sign.’
Ryan O'Halloran: Rating Buffalo Bills issues as big deal, medium deal, no deal
‘Big/medium/no deal? Big deal … and getting bigger by the day. If this keeps going, the Bills might have to sign another tailback to get through camp because they don’t want to overtax Ray Davis and Ty Johnson. There should be moderate concern if Cook doesn’t practice until Week 1 – running back is a rhythm/conditioning position, so who says he won’t be ready for full duty against Baltimore? Both sides are clearly dug in on their stances and they are standing miles apart.’
Bills Mailbag: What was up with all the Bills' injuries in training camp?
‘The optics of the injury situation aren’t good for the strength and conditioning staff, but there are a few factors at play here, in my mind. The biggest of those is an abundance of caution. How many of these injured players would be able to gut through their ailments if this were the regular season? My guess is the list would not be as long as it is now. Knowing there are 17 regular-season games to play, and hopefully more in the playoffs, means it makes sense to give players the necessary time to heal right now. As McDermott mentioned, it’s more important to be healthy in January than it is July and August.’
