I have a few years left before I leave the military, and am interested in those SAP jobs. Problem is I don't have a role in any SAP systems. We do Peoplesoft (yech...) and some Oracle Financials, but no SAP. So I don't have a chance of learning SAP on the job. Frankly, I don't think I'll be able to break into SAP. I don't want to be trapped into a lifetime of Peoplesoft, I just don't like it. I'll do one of those Over The Road trucker schools before I do that.
