Running the football is not the same thing as taking your foot off the gas. If they can control the line again and be productive running the ball they need to keep doing it. They need to maintain their balance as an offense. It is the identity of the offense and when they are actually the most productive. Use the run to set up the p/a intermediate passing game and carve them up. Make the LBs and safeties make decisions on every single play. Make the DL play honest football and not just chase Allen.

    This is the way.

I didn't say it wasn't, doesn't matter HOW you hit the gas, conservaball did not work the last time and 17 flung he rock 39 times in that game. The TOP was crazy lopsided, Cheifs had 22 min and the Bills 37 and they still equaled us in yards gained. Here is the difference between the Chiefs and the Ravens, by the time you adjust, game is over, they rarely make dumb mistakes and play sound fundamental football, like the Bills. Do whatever it takes, run it pass it - and most importantly and I say this it seems every playoffs game- SHUT DOWN KELCE

I’m a gen Xer and lived ( plus died a little bit) through all 4 Super Bowl runs and losses. I agree younger Bills fans than me- or other Gen Xers -might see it differently.

Agrred- died a little myself. 25 should have never come down to a FG anyways. I was no fan of Levy either, terrible coach but kept all those egos in check I guess but I have no doubt, with a Parcels or a JJ we had pulled a few of those home and I feel we are in that spot now.

I just think there’s a lot more factors for the playoff losses than the defense.

I do feel playing against a solid scheme/QB tomorrow will be a good test going into the playoffs.

A win would be nice but staying healthy is more important

    Really??

So in EVERY playoff loss - when did 17 leave it on the field, with the lead mind you, and the D take care of busines? I'll give you 13 seconds to think about it. You can nit pick what I'm sayign all you want but doesn't change the fact that no Lombardi's are at OBD and I'm pretty sure whe you your O is averaging 32 ppoint s a game, your qb has 6 TD's, you win games - unless you are the Bills. What's that term "Billsey"?

If good enough means reaching the Super Bowl twice with Josh Allen starting at QB in the big game I’ll take it.

I ASSURE you, nobody from the 90's / gen X is saying that. Until you live through that heartbreak, you have no idea what you are saying - sorry.

Niners D scheme hasn’t changed - it got them to two Superbowls and it probably should have been 3 if they had a QB for championship game vs Eagles. They’ve had a ton of injuries this year- that 6-8 record is a result mostly of that. They’ve had better defensive players than Buffalo- scheme only gets you so far.

KC’s offensive has been middling all year. Their Defense is elite and responsible for most of their wins this season.

Funny ... can't remember Purdy showing off his ring but that's none of my busines,

Hey, if "good enough" every year is you bar, have at it -all good.

This is true to a degree but the Bills DL also has to win their matchups and make plays.  This hasn’t been the case either

Not arguing that, just saying, in my original premise, the scheme is sound, just not 80% of the game. it's unrealistic and run it's course- no different then the no huddle. Offense wins games, defense wins championships - not regular season or games against bad teams. Until that defense does that - it's bull you know what.

Playoff game vs.  Baltimore in 2021 where the offense scores 10 points and Taron’s pick 6 won the game?

I’m sure you’ll tell me this game doesn’t count.

If your point is that the defense needs to step up more in the playoffs, I’d 100% agree with you.

My bad, should of saif Lombardi;s. Let's just hroww King Henry in to the mix this year and see what happens. KC isn't just doing it with the O - their defense is pretty solid as well.

9ers run a very similar scheme to us defensively. Two high shells, Quarters coverage, Cover 3 fire zones when they want to bring pressure. Its the people, not the scheme.

6-8??? yep - that would be the BIlls record to without 17

Can't believe you guys are defending this scheme - unreal. Don't worry, in the payoffs this year I'm sure 5th's time a charm.

This logic is faulty for a few different reasons.  First you’re using the distributive property:

The Rams Scored 42 against the Bills + the Rams scored 12 against the 49ers = The Bills defense sucks.

It’s been proven time and time again that this doesn’t work in the NFL.

To your point other point, I’d agree that the issues on defense start at DT and extend to the DL.   I’m all for Buffalo upgrading and I’d be shocked if that’s not a major focus of the offseason.

Distributive property IF it was just one game. Tell  you what, name one game in the payoffs we got the dub in that that defense won for us ... we'll wait

  9. Anybody that sits in a nickel zone for 80% of a game is going to get burned every year by decent qb's - sorry. that's just lazy coaching/planning. Doesn't matter the players, the scheme is not bad but it is not meant to be used all the time. If it  were me, I'd jumbo up, run the ball and send guys into the seams all day long, McVay gave out that blueprint btw as they amassed 427 yards but barley broke 300 against the 49ers.

All I'm saying is this - after we spot the usual 10-14 points to Detroit like we do everybody else, and watch the usually 1st and nothing up the middle a few times from the O combined with the screen out to Samuel for -1 yard, I'm pretty sure 17 will be putting on the cape before half time... hope I am wrong

I think Gruden is much more of an offensive mind.  Vrabel would be reasonable but I'd want him to keep Brady.  I think the only way mcd gets let go is if we implode the first round of the playoffs and/or if Josh goes to Terry and says he doesn't have confidence in him anymore.

If we play Jackson in the playoffs we'll win because McD knows how to slow him down, and because Jackson gags in the playoffs every year.  Wilson and the Steelers offense doesn't scare me one bit.

As for what Mcd's record would be without Allen, what would Reid's be without Mahomes?  Or any other coach with a great QB?

If we play Jackson in the playoffs, King Henry will absolutely shred that nickel.. again. Jackson is the least of our worries. As for Steeltown, they are running the ball very effectively as well, with a future HOF QB and a nasty defense - this is not last years Steelers.

and as for any other coach without a great QB -  Nix Purdy?

No excuse - you have this generations goat, too many passes - sorry.

  11. You guys are crazy and so is anybody who thinks Belichick isn't an instant upgrade. The last time someone gave him a great QB, he brought home 6 Lombardi's and stop fooling yourselves if you think it was all TB!2, go take a look at the defensive rankings for his SB runs, then talk the smack. I say it again and again - numbers don't lie. We will get hammered this week by Detroit but don't worry, we look like world beaters for the rest of the garbage games left and people will start talking how good the Bills are. When we get in the playoffs again against Mahomes, Wilson, Jackson, Herbert - see what Stafford did last week? Going to see it again because that coach is gonna die on that hill and so is 17's career if he doesn't get into the owners ear at some point. (Philip Rivers? Dam Marino? Jim Kelly?)

Next year Allen will be 29 and has nothing but early exits and nonsense to show for it. Division titles are garbage, you need the ring, period. I can't believe how many homers defend McD like he has accomplished anything other then draft the guy that has been the only thing literally saving his job so far. Seriously, what is the Bills record without Allen?? How many passes does this guy get?

I swear to God, it's like when the message board was at OBD and listening to everyone defend Levy like he was the next coming after JJ embarrassed him -twice.... the more things change

Sorry for the rant - just frustrated

  12. Look at all the McD homers just blindly ignoring the 800 pound elephant in the room.

Here's the real deal - we are all, whether we want to admit or not, watching a preview of the next playoff exit this year and that's what is really scaring us - not the loss. We have an  out dated and stubborn head coach that will not give up on playing that defensive nickel 72% of the time. It simply does not work anymore against real QB's. He had no answers last night while McVay took him to school, as we were all watching Stafford and co shred that zone coverage with both the run (really nice watching 330 pound guys run over 200 pound guys) and in the pass zone - McD iwas stubborn he DIED on that hill last night, sat in that nickel rushing 4 with very little adjustments, and just water bucket blitzing when he wanted pressure, Brady in the broadcast was literally calling the multiple level open wr's in that zone almost every play.

Not even going to get into not declining the 3rd down penalty and giving that team who has been steamrolling you, another shot??? Who does that? He does.

Now, I hope I am wrong, I hope maybe McStubborn puts it all together before we face (insert top 5 QB here) in the playoffs, but to say this year it will be different in the playoffs after 4 exits in this fashion is foolish and the definition of insanity.

17 could possibly be the greatest of all time and he is being wasted now by a stubborn head coach that will never be fired because 17 will always insure a winning record and by the time Allen realizes it, he will be past his prime. This kid should be working on multiple rings right now, period.

All the others talking about Belichick not the guy - probably half hose Lombardi's he hoisted was from a killer defense not TB12, take him in NY second.
