1. Maybe the Bills have become a luxury WNY can't afford any more. If WNY can't support the team in good times and bad, then maybe it's time for a dose of realism and say good bye. Maybe Ralph is trying to fit a round peg in a square hole by trying to keep the team in WNY (good intentions and all).

I don't have the (any) answers, but just seems to me that WNY is (becoming) too small and (becoming) too poor to hold on to what is essentially a luxury item. Heck, I could probably go out and buy a pretty expensive car right now, but I know I couldn't afford it over the long term. Same difference.

  2. ugh, and i gotta decide which one of these assclowns to vote for :(

Only 3rd party on the ballot are the Green's, and they may be withdrawing fromt he race

And the confusing ballot disenfranchising democratic voters warcries have already started.  Webb appears on the ballot as  James H. 'Jim' Webb, which is too long for the ballot in northern VA

I'm sorry, there's just something about Allen that I can't stand. That smarmy, smug, phoney look. Isn't he the kid you'd walked up to in HS and popped in the mouth ....... just because you knew he deserved it?? The fact that he eviscerated VDOT, gee thanks George. That helped our road situation a bunch. Then we got his buddy Gilmore (let's do away with the car tax and TOTALLY wreck the budget). Jimimy, I don't always disagree with the Republicans (everybody brings something to the table) but please, if we're going to elect one, give us one with at least half a brain.

I'll gamble on Webb thank you very much.

  3. Semper Fi! A sixth for him would be great. I could see this happening, but some other team, the Cowgirls for one, may take him as early as in the fourth.

This is taken, in part, from an article in the local rag. I live two miles from where he played his HS ball.

"...But in March, before the start of spring practice, Virginia head football coach Al Groh announced he had dismissed Brooks, along with defensive back Tony Franklin and defensive end Vince Redd, for reasons connected to "focus, commitment, dependability."

Keep in mind that injuries seemed to haunt him as well.

I just don't get the feeling that this is a Marv kind of player.

  4. Okay, so it looks like at least one of, and probably both of Ngata and Bunkley will be there at 8, and some mock drafts have D'Brick falling into our lap.

When watching the draft on saturday, who do we have to worry about? What other teams do you think might go for him?

OK, this comment is based on only ONE game, and I do not know the full capabilities of the man, but I was at the VATech/UVA game last fall, and Daryl Tapp absolutely and totally schooled Ferguson. ;) I can't recall all the devastation that Tapp wrought, but it was substantial.

I've also read somewhere recently that Ferguson is susceptible to DEs with a quick inside move. (Tapp is a small sized DE with a quick inside move.)

Does any of this mean that Ferguson will be a crappy T in the pros? Of course not. I'm just offering what I saw, on ONE DAY.

    FWIW.

  5. Ok, wrong forum, I know, but last night I really wanted to watch the Sabres game. Come to find out its on TSN. What the heck is TSN? It is NOT on the cable in my area, and a quick check on Directv didn't indicate any listing either. What is TSN and, more importantly, WHERE the heck is it?

And GO SABRES! Way to stick it to the Flyers!!!!!

  6. Well that was an uplifting article about the Bills staying in Buffalo this morning, wasn't it kid??? Thanks Bucky for making me even more depressed about their staying put.

At the end of the article he asks what will we do when they're gone. I, for one, will be hard pressed to watch another NFL game. Screw the NFL if our team goes. I'd say I'd pay more attention to the wife and kids, but she tells me they're in college now anyway.

  7. That is just plain incorrect.  Believe me.  As a student at Maryland, I watched him play in every game in which he suited up (away games on TV obviously).  The guy very rarely drops passes and can make spectacular, acrobatic snags with his soft hands and insane body control.

Some people on this board are simply not well-informed on his skill set.  He is an absolute animal.

    621041

Well you know better than I, but at the Hokie/MD game I don't recall him doing all that much. Seems like some kid (Fenner???) did a much better job vs. the vaunted Hokie D.

Of course I shouldn't judge Davis by just this one time I saw him play.. I don't follow MD ball at all. I can't say as though I've heard his name mentioned all that much, especially as an elite TE, but what do I know?? But if he's that good, well then good for him! And us, maybe???!!!

  8. Kornheiser on Ramsey, in part, from today's comPost:

"Ramsey's flaws are obvious. He isn't nimble, and he doesn't get rid of the ball fast enough. Every time he dropped back to pass and held the ball tightly, he seemed on his way to his own execution. But he was always willing to take a hit for the team, and never tried to undermine it. He leaves here with the best wishes of a community that appreciates his effort and his decorum going out."

You should also read the rest of the article. It's pretty accurate, I believe. It basically talks about how when Gibbs returned as HC of the Skins, he immediately set about re-instating Brunnell at the go-to QB. He also went about drafting Campbell as the QB of the future. This should tell us something. If a respected HOF football coach thinks this about Ramsey's potential, why would we want him??? Ramsey almost sounds like a younger version of the lastest version of Drew Bledsoe. I'll pass.

  9. Funny how that statement could have been made 4 years ago, but it still holds true today.  He didn't go after him with the full ability of the U.S. military when they had him cornered at Tora Bora years ago, so why would he do it now.

    590761

One of the reasons he can't go after him now is that he's probably in Iran somewhere. Now, maybe the Iranians hate his guts, but I bet Ahmadinejad would be willing to put up with him, and Ayman al-Zawahiri, if it meant thumbing their noses at the US, which is what they're digging at the moment with this nukular thing. After all, now many quality production studios do you think are located in the most remote regions of Paki anyway? (I read last week that some video expert indicated these tapes were of much higher quality than prior efforts.)

I also have this fear that some kind of strike is near, although I hope and pray not. The offer of a truce makes no sense. Just no sense. This guy may be a lot of things, but he's not dumb. No, I think he offered it to get some value out it -- meaning he could say "I told you so. I offered you a truce, and you didn't take it. See what happens?" For some strange reason I just can't get beyond that.

Of course, they've been promising attacks for some time now, so my "theory" is probably total hogwash, but I just have this eerie feeling....

  10. Is this legal?

I see the rationale, but I also see the right of private employees to spend their own money where they want to.  Interesting either way.

    585655

I get the rationale too, but there's something in this line of thinking that is very revealing in terms of why Ford is in the world of hurt they're in. Shouldn't they be a bit more worried about WHY their own employees don't drive their product, as opposed to focusing on what sort of punative measures they can take against their non-Ford owners? Seems like a case of misplace priorities or something. But what do I know? Ford - Parking across the street is Job 1.

  11. My hatred of the canes is simply spillover from my hatred of the fish which is a spillover from my hatred of anything that has anything to do with Miami.

That said, I was truly depressed that the Hokies couldn't get on track against the gangstas. They took conVick right out of his game. IMHO, the Hokies stopped running way too early. It looked to me like Coker spooked Beamer. Sad day in Blacksburg, but we'll get healhty against VA in a couple of weeks..

  12. It will be interesting to see if Rove will try to save himself by implicating Cheney.  Give them all the Rigas perp walk.  I predict that before his term is up, even if he's not implicated as a non-indicted co-conspirator, Cheney will resign for "health reasons", and the new VP will be whoever the White House wants to push as their next presidental nominee so they can have the advantages that being in office offer, someone like George Allen or Condi Rice.

    488547

Oh please not George "Don't I remind you of Ronald Reagan" Allen. Anyone but him. We're still driving around in circles in VA thanks to good ol back slapping aw schawks George slashing VDOT like a watermelon. Don't get me started. Condi would be better by default. Or my lab.

  13. If you like Mike Vick, you'll love Marcus Vick. I'm still waiting for the rest of the Hokies season to play out, but Marcus is a very smooth operator who will only get better. I think he is every bit as exciting as his brother, and is ALOT more comfortable in the pocket. Can't wait to see how he develops over time.

That said, I fantasize about him wearing our uni some day.

  14. I don't know if any of you guys watched the HOKIE/WV game but Chris Spielman was one of the announcers and I actually thought he was pretty good. A little too much football jargon for the average joe, but if ever a man had insights into how the game is being played, this is the guy. I'd never heard him announce before.

  15. I stumbled accross it Saturday night when we were down there for a picnic...signs warning of "No Parking August 8th, Flags of our Fathers" were posted all around (like there's ever any parking around here  ).  Went down there at lunch time and stuck around about a half-hour till the rains came.

This is your supervisor. Now have your limo driver take you back here and get back to work.

  16. I wish that something other than socialization (which I fully oppose) could be done to curb rising health costs. If it was the doctors making the cash I wouldn't really mind, but it is the insurance company.

A trip to the doctor for a sore throat and a bottle of anti-biotics can impact a working class family in a big way if one has no insurance, let alone a serious illness/injury.

My rates were recently increased, the co-payment was raised, and the doctor gets NONE of this money. It isn't fair, and is an issue that extends beyond unions.

    369707

Take a look at the political contributions of the insurance and pharmacy industries over the last serveral election cycles and ask yourself why this is so.

  17. And how many times has a government arbitrator defined the contract because management and the union couldn't agree.  More often then you think.  Plus again, the union hold's management over the barrel because the management can't hire replacement workers at less cost because the union will kill or intimidate the workers and their families.  Tell me that is legal, and that management can do a damn thing about it?

    369554

You are mighty determined to lay this square on the union, but let me ask you:

You have not addressed any of my points about the bad business decisions that GM's made. Or do you believe that they've benefited the company?
