  1. This is a marketing campaign to trick a quality coaching staff to come here. Ralph's meddling history looms large in league circles. Whether this is just a clever ruse or not, it is what they are selling. Who can argue against that strategy?

And when will operators be available to take my call to renew my season tickets?

  2. For those eyeing Michael Floyd in the 1st round, the Evans signing might help the Bills. There has been some discussion about the Jags eyeing Floyd with their 1st pick to give Gabbert some help. The Evans signing could swing the Jags pendulum more in the direction of a defensive end with their 1st round pick rather than a wide receiver.

  3. ESPN free agency grades are out:

    Bills A

    Pats b

    Jets b-

    Fins d-

...Says Bills no longer have so many holes to fill at the draft that they can take thebest player available which is a winning formula.

Here's the link but its a "insider" http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7748290/free-agency-grades-every-afc-team-nfl

This cannot be right because Colin Cowpie said that the Patriots have had the best free agency pick-ups by far.

  4. I don't see the Browns passing on RG3

Word down here in Cleveland is that the Browns are VERY INTERESTED in RG3. Despite the fact they have Colt McCoy, many in the Browns organization feel that he has regressed this year and is not their long term answer at quarterback.

FWIW, you could almost insert "Bills" for "Browns" in the sports talk shows down here in Cleveland and it's identical to the Buffalo ones. Lack of production from the QB position, lack of playoff appearances, etc, etc, etc.

  5. I love love love Tyrod Taylor and really hope the Bills draft him. The guy has amazing pocket awareness. As soon as pressure comes, he moves away and creates space as if someone just pressed a madden speed burst button.

He's seems to be compared to Vick a lot. He's got Vick-like scrambling ability with less arm strength however he looks like he might have better decision-making/intangible ability in the passing game (as compared to when Vick was coming out).

His lack of height and cannon arm is why he's still on the board. There's three teams that I could see drafting him in the fourth round...Miami, Washington or Philly. I know it's a round higher than he should go, but I really hope the Bills pick Taylor at #100.

  6. Was at that game - ran out onto the field - never experienced anything like that before.

The only other game that comes close to that feeling was the Sabres-Rangers playoff game where Drury tied the game with 7 seconds left and then Max won it in OT. I probably would have run onto the ice if it was possible.

  7. I live down here in NE Ohio and this is true. The media and talk shows are all over him for his stupidity.

He does tend to take plays off, but when he is on his game, he is very good. There had been talks during the offseason about unloading him, so this incident may speed up that process. That aside, I don't think Holmgren will get fleeced if the Browns do decide to trade him.

  8. I think I can speak to this topic based on a few simple points: I was born and raised in Western New York - graduated from the University of Buffalo - had my first job in Amherst. I then moved to the Syracuse area and worked there for about 15 years. I have since moved to Northeast Ohio and live & work in one of the Cleveland suburbs. My parents, my wife's parents, and many of our extended family and friends still live in Western New York. Up until 2007, I attended at least 1-2 Bills' home games per year.

Suffice to say, for purposes of this discussion, I have been a Bills fan since the late 70s.

Without further ado, here's my take on Cleveland vs. Buffalo: Both cities have their bright spots and not-so-bright spots. I would have to say that Cleveland has more of an upswing as the area is driven significantly by the Cleveland Clinic (and all the offshoots that it produces). As the Baby Boomer generation closes in on retirement and the aged population continues to increase, the health care industry will boom. This fact alone will help Cleveland significantly. Yes, there is Roswell Park and the efforts of UB in the Buffalo area, but they dwarf in comparison to Cleveland Clinic. In addition, there still seems to be a sizeable manufacturing component in Northeast Ohio that Buffalo no longer has. That aside, Ohio, as a whole, has been hit heavily by losses in the automotive industry, but it does not appear to suffer from the political hurdles seen in New York State or Buffalo in particular (cf. Buffalo Common Council!). There are some hauntingly similar debates in both cities - for example, waterfront development has been a point of discussion for both cities as long as I can remember. There is also recent discussion here in Cleveland about developing a wind farm on Lake Erie to provide additional power to the regional community.

In terms of the various sports teams - in both cities, the respective football team is the focus of most of sports talk radio (and I can say that with certainty as I can receive the feed from WGR55 down here). Despite the strong play of the Cavs and Sabres, the Browns and Bills are still the focal point of callers. That alone amazes me. In terms of the Browns, it is believed that Randy Lerner (team owner) has finally come to the point where he is admitting (not openly, but by his actions) that he has made poor personnel hires over the recent past. It appears that he is finally willing to step away from day-to-day operations of the Browns and let more qualified individuals (e.g., Mike Holmgren) drive the team. I cannot say that appears to be the case with the owner of the Bills. In terms of players themselves, there are star players (only a few on each team!) on both teams that are frustrated with overall team play (cf. Josh Cribbs and Aaron Schoebel), and players who have been frustrated with coaching decisions. Both teams also have been holding onto past glory days - particularly the days when Kosar & Kelly led their respective teams (Yes, Cleveland is as much in love with Bernie as Buffalo is in love with Jimbo). In fact, Bernie is probably as much involved with the current Browns as Jim is involved with the current Bills.

Overall, Cleveland & Buffalo are a lot more similar than you might be willing to admit.

BTW, if I could return to the Western New York region, I would do so in a heartbeat. My family and I enjoy living in Northeast Ohio...but there is something intangible about Buffalo that constantly pulls on your heart.

  9. I believe your right, when they signed Tripplett. I think ill pass on him.

The Bills had already signed Tripplet when the offer was made to Pickett. At the time, Pickett had offers from Buffalo and Green Bay and chose the land of cheese. Must have been the allure of Favre that made him decide to play for the Fudge Packers. <_<
