1. Run the ball.  Milk the clock with long drives and lots of plays to keep Indy's O off the field.  If we don't score, utilize Moorman to pin them deep in their territory.

That is about all you can do.

    830340

I agree. I'll take a guess and say that the gameplan will be run over the left every play. If they can't stop it, then maybe we score twice! This game is gonna be bad for us!

  2. Like I've said before, Losman is set on who he is going to throw to before he even snaps the ball.

I don't understand how this guy hasn't learned how to go through his progressions in his 3rd year in the league.

    829552

How about because he does not have enough time before being sacked??? That O-line must get better next year!!

  3. Well, I don't think we have a controversy right now because all of our options suck. JP isn't getting the job done, but we all know what we can get out of Holcomb, and obviously Nall is no better because he couldn't beat Holcomb out of #2. Since this team is nowhere close to playoff potential, I think the only thing we can do right now is continue to play Losman. In other words, we are so bad that we don't even have the ability to have a controversy!

  4. If JP starts making significant strides, I am okay with leaving him in.  If not, what would it hurt to see what they have in Nall.  They already know what they have in Holcomb, so there is no sense in giving him a start, but why not Nall?

    828344

I agree. However, I really don't think Nall will do any better than JP just because he was not able to beat out Holcomb. However, if JP shows improvement, I wouldn't play him at all.

  5. Great question. I also consider myself a Buffalo fan. I have lived in several cities since I moved away from Buffalo in 1979 including Cleveland and Detroit, but my allegience never changes. I always root for the Buffalo teams. Strange how wherever I have lived there are Dallas and Miami fans that have never lived in those areas. I am very defensive about Buffalo teams and the city itself and have no logical explanation for it. I take pride in being from Buffalo even though I have now spent over half my life not living there.

    818424

I heartedly agree with you. In fact, I've never lived in Buffalo at all. And yet, I defend the city as if I lived there my entire life! The farthest north I've ever lived was Washington DC, but still have learned what it means to be a Bills fan. I have always defended the Bills when people say, "Oh, you're a Bills fan? What a loser, losing 4 straight times in the Superbowl!" My response is always,"Yeah, well, at least my team has made it 4 times. The Eagles won 4 straight divisional games, yet only made it to the Superbowl once, and the Colts haven't made it yet. My team GOT THERE 4 straight times." I love the city of Buffalo because they are so dedicated to their teams and support them win or lose. Go Bills, Sabres, and Bandits!!

  6. Thats ok. So am I. This guy is always around the ball and makes solid solid solid tackles. You wont see him get his hands on someone and miss. He reminds me alot of fletch. but he is an inch taller. I wouldnt mind having a guy like that around for 8-10 years. Would you?

    795178

I completely agree! IMO, he's much better than Poluzsny ever dreamed of being. I see the next London Fletcher written all over him! Now, would you rather have the next Fletcher or Zach Thomas?? Give me Fletcher!

  7. Could be becasue those people that are in those areas are there to watch the game, do buisness deals, and not to get drunk off their @sses andstart fights.

I don't understand how someone could spend all that money on a game ticket, or a concert ticket just to get so drunk that they are falling over and can't remember half the game/event they were at. If I'm going to do that I will go to the store and get a case of beer and drink at home with friends or hit up a bar.

    793886

I completely agree! I think that there should be a three beer limit. Each fan over the age of 21 gets a punch card when they enter the game and get it punched after buying each beer. After three punches, you can't sell them any more. Though it wouldn't cure the drunk problem, I think that it would greatly reduce it!

  8. You have a good point, and I agree with you that this could be an upset. However, let's not forget that they probably have the BEST defense in the league. Even though Losman has been superb the last few games, I don't know if the O-line will be able to give him enough time to find the open receivers. If this happens, we will become one-dimensional. I also think that in order to win this game, when we do get in the red zone, we can't just run it three times up the gut, and then kick a FG like we did last week. We have to play the ENTIRE game to win, not to lose! GO BUFFALO!!

  9. Williams is the type of player you find on 13 and 3 teams. In addition to being an efficient running back, He can return punts, kickoffs, can tackle, is a leader on the field and off, is faster then Gates, is not afraid to run inside the tackles like Gates was last year (Result, Gates, no playing time).

How many yards would Gates have gained on those hopeless third down and forever draw plays that Williams was asked to run over and over?

Fortunately, Levy and the coaching staff know an excellent player when they see one. Unfortunately, not too many posters on this board do.

Sorry folks if you disagree with me but this was a no brainer.

    760451

You've got to be kidding me! I will give SW one thing, and that is he plays with alot of heart. However, he just isn't pro material! C'mon man, you're partial because he played for the Tide! If you were really honest with yourself, you'd admit that he is practice squad at best!

  10. I dont understand the thinking that states we have no chance of winning with Losman or we are relegated to being a 4-12 team with Losman as the starter.  The guy has been in the league for more then 2 years.  People need to stop with the excuses.  I personally think Losman could have a decent year(somewhere in the vicinity of 3,000 yrds, 20tds/10 ints) & could lead this team anywhere from 7-11 wins.  This team has talent, it is all about putting the talent in a position to make plays & win games.

    738430

I think it would be more realistic to expect about 2,000 yards and 15TD and 15 Int. I mean, let's face it. Our offensive line still has huge question marks. Still, IMO, that can be deemed a successful year for Losman. I'm a huge Losman supporter, and I actually think he gives us a better chance to win than Holcomb. Teams will start figuring out that Holcomb can't throw accurately anything over 20 yards, so teams will just play with 10 men in the box, which will kill the running game. Also, what's the use of having speed at WR when they only have to run a 10 yard pass route???

  11. Good job Promo.

I'd like to see the new Unis retired and something akin to the retros used all the time.

    722073

Same here. I never did like our new unis. The visiting jesrey reminds me of the Destroyers unis, and that is not a good omen, as we have seen.

  12. Bill, you're nothing if not consistent.  PTR's point is that Carucci has become negative towards the Bills since joining the "national" media, and I've noticed it as well.  JP is just a recent example.

My personal, unsubstantiated opinion is that Carucci -- like many other former beat writers who "go national" -- goes out of his way not to seem like a homer, and in the process becomes overly critical.

    722376

i.e. Steve Tasker. I mean, did he ever have something positive to say about the Bills??

  13. Isn't it a little funny though, to say, "class is over" for JP?  Why?  Was class over for Drew Brees after two substandard years that saw him shuffling between the field and the bench?

And assuming the hypothetical of Nall winning the job, does it count as 'class time' for him?  What if he falters?  What if he can't avoid the sack?  Will we be screaming for a more mobile QB?

We've seen far too little of Nall or Losman yet to make any judgements or predictions, IMO.  Losman improved his accuracy in stint #2 and that's encouraging to me.

    704373

I absolutely agree. Not only Drew Brees, but what about John Elway and Brett Favre? Now, I was just a little guy when they first started their careers, but if I remember correctly, Elway was just as bad in his first few years as Losman. Favre obviously showed no signs of being a hall of fame QB when he played for the Falcons since they traded him to Green Bay. Big oops. Now, by no means am I saying that Losman will be as good as these guys, but he DOES have the same playing style and the arm strength that these two hof players had. My point is that it took these guys time to reach greatness, it didn't just happen right away. I think we need to give him a full season as #1. Forget this "QB battle" crap. Would you want to lose potentially Elway material for Maddox material???

  14. Win football games as the starter.

I already know Holcomb can no longer play NFL level football and Nall is Mr. Prototype, minus the talent.

If Losman flops, get rid of all 3 and pick up a vet while trying again in the draft.

That being said, I expect little from the Bills this year, so throw Losman in there and let him sink or swim with some Coaches who may have an actual offensive gameplan, unlike the last 2-3 years.

    703267

    I completely agree.

  15. do you mean moving back into the first round to take Losman because Willis was picked with the Atlanta pick obtained from trading Peerless Price to them

    698495

Yeah for real! TD was HORRENDOUS at making draft day moves. Look at what we had to give up for Losman. Now, I happen to think that Losman can still be a good QB if given the chance, but we gave up way too much for the 23rd pick. Levy on the other hand made a great move this year for the 26th. I still don't know if I like the choice, but at least he kept his entire draft next year intact!

  16. Not kidding...his effort was lacking and that has nothing to do with how good a team is...he has not shown the speed everyone thinks he has...I think he knows his talent is less than advertised and he wants his...him and Drew Rosenberg...joined at the hip for the big bucks.

Many games last year he didn't show up...when he shows up every week and for big games & plays like a star...I will say I was wrong, until then it is nothing but speculation that he has more talent than most backs in the league..."A" train had 1200 yeards too, so does that make him a star? I think not...

Willis may be too full of himself to put out...yr 2 he blocked and ran hard, yr 3, he mailed it in and everyone knows it...

    696881

I'm sorry, mailing it in? He was barely given the ball! Yeah, he may have had his number of carries, but they came in all the wrong points in the game. I mean, what's with taking him out everytime on third downs?? He's not like Henry. He can catch and run. Also, if you look at the tape, you'll notice that everytime he was stopped for no gain, or only gained a couple, he wasn't given the rock again the next play. WM is a bruiser. I agree with you that he doesn't have the speed he once had, bit imo, he has something much more valuable. You ask any linebacker in the league, and they'll all tell you that Willis is a load! Willis is in the mold of an Eddie George and a Jerome Bettis, as far as his run style. He may just be picking up 3 or 4 yards here and there, but as the game winds on, all of a sudden he busts one for 20. He'll never be an LT type runningback, but he can be a darn good one!

  17. What exactly does "can make all the throws" mean?  He didn't make a lot of the throws last year.  He often overthrew, or underthrew to receivers.

Like you, I am not convinced one way or another about Losman yet.  In his favor, in my eyes, is that he showed significant improvement in decision making, during his second (albeit too brief) stint as a starter.

There are some similarities to RJ, but one significant difference, which I believe is in JP's favor, is a strong desire to succeed.  RJ never seemed all that fiery, or frankly, overly concerned if he was the starter or the back-up...he was getting paid either way.  As you pointed out, it certainly seems like JP is a hard worker, since being the named the starter last year.  I have some doubts about the "next Favre" stuff, but I am still optimistic that he can be very good.  He just needs a lot more experience.

    697158

I agree with most of your post. However, I think part of the reason why he was not able to make "all the throws" was due to the fact that in most cases he did not have the time to completely step into his throws. I remember many games, especially against the Patriots, where he started in the shotgun, and before he could even look up after receiving the ball, he saw 2-3 D-linemen 2 feet away!! Now, I am definitely not sold on Losman yet, but I really believe that if given the chance, we may finally have found Kelly's replacement. I Mean, let's face it, even Kelly in his prime couldn't really play well with this horrible offensive line! And, unfortunately, I really don't see it being any better this year. I also fully agree with your statement on the RJ thing. To me, when you see a picture of his face in the huddle, you can just tell that he wants to win and succeed so badly. Imo, that right there is half the battle. He has all the talent, let's just give him this season(16 games) to see if there is marked improvement. The last thing I want to see is the Bills getting rid of him, and then he turns into a superstar on another team.

  18. Feel free to predict your Super Bowl scores as well.

    Bills 49

    Panthers 48

Carolina fans are appalled that Bills fans showed up to "drink early and drink often."

    696566

I hope so, but that still means that we did not address our defense.lol "We will evaluate where we are." Sound familiar? I WOULD LOVE to see this happen, but I am a realist. I vote that we are a very solid team this year and a great team by 2007. That's not much longer to wait, since we've already been waiting since 1993. Get er dun Marv!!

  19. Ya...because this guy from the "U" has not shown talent other than to shoot his mouth off. He sounds more like his agent every day..."I want mine"

When he shows up on a Sunday afternoon in September in NE, or a Dec afternoon in NY then he has the right to shoot off his mouth...

the more he talks the more I think he has no talent left and he knows it...:the NFL no. 1 running back! ya right...he hsn't earned the right to hold the top 10 jock straps... and that is from a huge Bills fan

    696827

You've gotta be kidding me! He just happens to be our best player on offense, and quite possibly the most dangerous player other than Evans. You talk as if all of the Bills offensive woes are his fault. Maybe if he got mediocre run bocking he could be as good as Larry Johnson. You take away the Chiefs offensive line, how good do you think Johnson and the Priest are?? Save all the criticism for when he has a decent line in front of him! Who knows, he just may be the best RB in the NFL! Am I saying that I think he is, no. But I am saying that you have to give him more of a chance before you run him out of town! Besides, who would you replace him with- Shaud Williams, please!
