Motor should be getting 12 to 15 carries a game, end of story.  If we are gashing and have a lead then mix in Cook for another 10 carries.  If we are in a real shoot out then let Josh take over.  Passing all the time with a lead is just bad game management.

Amen. Cook does not break tackles or fall forward. He does hit a hole fast but when we need to control the clock and run when the other team knows we’re running, you gotta feed Singletary.

  2. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Freddy gets cut. Rex will have the final say and he doesn't necessarily have the loyalty that Marrone and Nate did.

This quote from Whaley at the Senior Bowl sounds like Marrone was the one loyal to Fred :

Q: Why didn't Bryce Brown get on the field more?

Whaley: They did a lot of switching in and out. It seemed like every time a guy would make a big run, they would substitute. I think it was just the rotation of it. Then with Fred being here the longest and knowing the offense the most, I think they felt, in certain situations, more comfortable having him out there. But we're excited this year coming in with the emphasis and commitment to the run game. There's going to be a rotation, but I don't think it's going to be as quick for guys. I think they'll be able to stay in and get a feel for what they're doing and get in a groove.

"They" are gone. And Boobie will probably know this offense better

  3. For about three quarters our offense played very well IMO.

My biggest criticism of the team today was play-calling in the 4th quarter. Why so many screen passes when Philly CLEARLY was aware and blowing them up? True that we were burning them with it early on, but they made the adjustment. We didn't. Second to that was the lack of any play-action whatsoever. I love that we were feeding Freddy, but in the 4th they were stacking the box against our bunched formation, leaving nowhere for Freddy to run. How about some play action passes to keep the safety's from cheating up?

Our Defense clearly has some work to do. They repeatedly gave up the big play, especially on 3rd down. You got to love all the turnovers, but how about forcing a punt once in a while? I'm not sure if it's scheme or (lack of) talent, but I'm thinking it's more scheme. It seemed that we often were in poor position to stop their big plays. If this was the first week we allowed 450+ yards, I would say today was ALL Vick, but 4 out of 5 is a big concern.

Finally, you have to credit Vick...the guy was a big play machine today. Although he threw 4 picks, 2 of them were just bad bounces for them. Other than that, he was the reason they were still in the game to the end.

  4. I'm not a doctor so I wont speculate as to the cause of injury and what role Stevie played in it.

But I have no problem saying flat out that it was a chickenshlt, dirtbag block and Berry and the Chiefs have every right to be pissed.

Stevie better watch his ass the next time we see the Chefs.

I gotta admit... when it happened, I wondered why Stevie didn't go for the Pancake, instead of the knees. It seemed to me that Stevie was in position to hit him high, with leverage.

  5.

Welcome - good banter is always appreciated here on TSW. I lived in the Bay area for 7 years - if I were in the East Bay this afternoon, I'd be tipping a cold one in Jack London Square at Heinhold's First and Last Chance Saloon.

    GO BILLSSS!!!!

    19 and 0 baby!!!!! B-)

Anyone ever have BBQ at Flints on Shattuck, right on the border of Oakland/Berkely? Incredible! Then over to the Triple Rock Brewery...

  6. Let's set aside the notion that Freddy is as good as TD and focus instead on any stylistic similarities which might exist.

Yes, stylistically there are similarities in the way Jackson and TD run with the football.

This comparison is way closer to the mark than the fairly recent thread about Freddy being similar to Thurman Thomas. Freddy actually couldn't be more different than Thurman as far as running style, body type, etc.

I've always compared Freddy (and heard announcers subsequently make the same comparison) to Marcus Allen.

Both are tall runners who play with good body lean, have great vision, always make the first tackler miss, generally run north-south but can turn the corner, always fall forward to finish runs, and are smooth gliders. Neither Freddy or Marcus have/had great speed but both can run away from defenders… have good football speed.

The one thing Marcus did that Freddy doesn't do is that Driftwood used to vault very high over the line on short yardage and goal to go situations. This practice seems to be a dying art as LaDainian Tomlinson is the only RB in recent memory who goes airborne around the goal line.

Again, not saying Freddy is as good as Marcus Allen, only that they have similar styles, the way they gallop in the open field, being excellent blockers, having the ability to catch the ball, the way they arc back on their cutbacks lunge through holes…

Here's some Marcus Allen highlights for those who never saw him play. Oddly Marcus emulated OJ Simpson and has a bit of OJs wiggle to his game but is much more Fred Jackson than OJ Simpson.

Nice post, I agree. After watching the highlights, it reminded me of that nice stiff-arm Freddy laid on the chiefs last weekend when he was running left (can't remember which quarter it was in) but it was right on time and made the chiefs db look foolish.

The main comparison that I see between Fred and Thurman was, as another poster said, both have(had) great patience and vision to find the crease.

TD is in a different class to me because of his speed. He was a great back though and likely would've put up crazy numbers if he didn't have the knee and migraine issues.

  7. I live in the same town as Drew, in Bend, OR and have seen him around several times. The first time was at the Whole Foods Market where I had a chance to introduce myself as a Bills fan and Drew was super kind to me. The thing I liked was he asked more questions about me than I asked about him. He seemed genuine and was interested in what part of BUF I was from, how long I've been out here, when was the last time I was at the Ralph, we talked skiing at Mt Bachelor and about what a great bunch of golf courses are around Bend. I asked him if he was bitter at all about being shipped out of BUF and he said "absolutely not, I loved my time in Buffalo and it's part of the business".

Then several months later, I saw him at Mt Bachelor on a sick powder day. He came into the bar with a group of guys and I was by myself and holding down a table in the small, packed bar. I offered to let them have my table and I reminded Drew that I chatted with him at Whole Foods and he said "That's why I love Bills Fans".

He IS a classy dude and after listening to that interview, my opinion hasn't changed at all.

  8. The legend of Lee Evans never dies....

It's nice when your defense gets 7 turnovers isn't it? Surely that can't change the dynamic of the game.

+1 BIG TIME. 7 turnovers is > than Lee stretching the field and getting 0 production IMHO. How many times have teams with 7 turnovers gone on to win? I haven't looked it up, but I'd be shocked if many have done it

  9. The Martin "Backpacker" or the "Baby" Taylor are pretty good sounding and easy on the fingers. Plus they can travel anywhere with you...and they can be pretty cheap, used.

I bought a couple of stinkers early on....the thing I look for now is nice low action, without the buzz. Repeating some of what birddog said... Some guitars have the nice action, but the vibration of the strings will drive ya nuts. The sound of the fat E string is also important. It seems the cheaper you go, the more muted it sounds.

Like the other posters mentioned, ultimate-guitar.com is a great site. I also love youtube. There's a guy named Marty Schwartz on there that does a real nice job of teaching hit songs to beginners.

Stick with it because I am living proof that any bonehead can eventually figure it out. I struggled with strumming and shifting chords smoothly for a long time, but it literally came to me one day (playing along w/ Jerry, Thats what love will make you do) and it's been nothing but fun since. Good luck!

  10. I know Bills fans love themselves a hard working underdog, but it's tough to listen to some of this hyperbole.

Fred is a great story, a good leader and a terrific football player. He is not a top 15 RB though. He's good no doubt. He's a starter at the NFL level. But, lets not induct him into the Hall of Fame just yet. He is being paid, and he's being paid quite well for a 30 year old undrafted RB.

This type of stuff is insane I'm sorry. Bills fans have lost their minds.

If I'm not mistaken, his jersey is already in the HOF for the record-setting performance he had 2 yrs ago...being the 1st to ever have 1000 yards rushing and 1000 yards returning kicks in the same season. Also I believe his all-purpose yards that season were the 4th highest ever recorded.

  11. Did you really think the Bills were going to throw at the end of the game when Thigpen was in there? Neither did KC.

Or that run blitzing Spiller was a good tactic based on down and distance, but maybe not so smart when a cutback runner like Jackson was in the game?

I'm just sayin that Fred gets more out of every run, compared with Spiller and White. I know the Chiefs were playing the run late in the 4th, but Fred runs through people and always falls fwd for extra yardage.

  12. It was not the same defense. The Chiefs had eight in the box when White was in during garbage time (with the backup OL as well). Spiller also seemed to see more stacked fronts/run blitzes than when Jackson was in. I'd like to see a few swing passes to CJ to keep the defense honest rather than crouding the line.

That said, Fred's run-after-contact was outstanding today...

Right, the Chief's gameplan was to shut down everyone but Fred

  13. Again, Moorman consistently put the ball in the endzone, leading me to believe that this was by design and not because he was off. Is this the coaching telling him to do this or what?

True. They didn't exactly dribble into the endzone either. There was NO chance of downing any of them, IIRC. I heard Chan say that one of his primary concerns was ST because of the lack of reps (no OTAs) for the rookies and other players that were newly acquired.

  14. Not to be a downer, but I was not overly impressed with Brad Smith today. I like that he converted the 3rd downs... but he also made mistakes with the pick and the poor choice to return that kick. I know he supposedly has speed, but I haven't seen it yet...including preseason. He seems to practically stand still while he is dissecting the plays and waiting for blocks. Those were some ugly 2 yard runs out of the wildcat, EXCEPT that he got the first downs. Of course, I'll take an ugly third down conversion every time.
