  1. Ever heard of "doing the right thing"?

To be a vested NFL player, you need to have 3 credited seasons. So far he has 2.

Keeping him on the roster gets to be a fully vested NFL player which has certain bennies, among the biggest is health insurance.

    Think this isn't important?

If you are a player who has 2 offers that are basically the same and one team is a class act and takes care of it players and the other team kicks players  to the curb to free up a roster spot for....reasons. Which team are you going to sign with?

Players talk. They know the good organizations from the meh organizations from the bad organizations. Players want to get paid yes but they also have a need to not feel like a piece of meat who will get thrown out like yesterday's garbage.

  2. One thing that does not appear to have been mentioned:

If the alleged victim was 17 at the time of the alleged crime (which is what news reports are saying), that puts her under the age of consent in California which immediately puts sexual contact between someone above the age of majority and someone under 18 as rape.

I was discussing this with someone this morning and he said "if this was my daughter, that kicker wouldn't have seen another sunrise"

  3. we are not completely out of the Josh Allen woods quite yet.

As we saw on Sunday, Allen can and will get rattled when someone damages his football-fu.

When he gets rattled, it infects the entire offense and they stop making plays.

In Sunday's case, he was able to shake it off but I can see him getting rattled and make a series of mistakes that compound's the situation.

He is still a young player mid to late early in his development.

Hopefully he will continue to improve and if he does we will have a heavy duty decade long weapon in our roster.

  4. As an out of towner and with clients in midwest NFL cities, I can see why the Bills want to do this.  The Bills fan base (right or wrong) is viewed as nothing but a bunch of out of control drunken idiots who get laughed at by people who see them on youtube.

You have to take the Bills homer glasses off and see how other people see you to truly understand why the Bills want to do this.

On the radio—whether it be Sal Capacchio, Steve Tasker, Bulldog, or guests on various shows—we often hear Nathan Peterman described as a "good guy," and it closely follows that he is a "person of faith." Why is being a person of faith synonymous with being a good guy? Is the implication that NOT being a person of faith makes one less of a good guy?

Does Nathan Peterman's individual religious choice make him a "good guy" in our society? Does this speak to a societal bias towards Christianity?

People said the same thing about Kay Stephenson especially in the 1984 (2-14) season..."he's such a nice guy" was heard over and over until he got canned in 1985 after going 0-4.

What action could the NFL take against the Bills?  They handled the the situation themselves.  This has the feeling of an NCAA ingestion.

Do you believe any action by the NFL against the Bills is justifiable?

Theoretically, they could take action if the Bills were aware of this situation for an extended period of time and did nothing or if Brandon took retaliatory action.

The laws and penalties around hostile work environments are pretty severe to ensure that organizations take allegations seriously.  This is why most organizations have zero tolerance policies in this area.

Let's assess the current situation.  Browns and Jets take QB at 1 and 3.

Rosen at three - Concussion history, less then desirable NFL Arm strength.  Lacks pocket awareness, not an inspirational leader type and not well liked by teammates.  Has great accuracy, throws a nice ball to all levels.  Comes from serious family money and may bail if injury prone.

This is the only one that is a valid concern.

the more concussions the more likely his career will end early, voluntarily or involuntarily

  8. Not surprising.

existing head coaches are like veteran starters, they have plenty of film in which teams can analyze and build game plans to combat but new head coaches don't so opposing teams are shooting from the hip.

The real proof will be at week 5-6+. At that point there is enough film covering enough situations that opposing teams can dial in their coverages and game plans.

  9. how the !@#$ could anyone think that correlates to racism? I'm sure Jim Bob down in Denton is googling racist terms to find synonyms all day

researching things like highly emotional attitudes and behaviors (in addition to racism, another example is studying sexual preferences) is really hard via direct questioning and observation as most people will not answer questions or behave honestly if they know that they are being recorded. So researchers are forced to use other data points that can be obtained while the subjects aren't aware that they are being observed and using the collected data to draw inferences and conclusions

    .

Is it 100% accurate? heck no.

is it subject to researcher bias? absolutely.

are there other influences that impact the results? yup

Is it one of the better choices from available options? Yes.

  10.

I think CTE will definitely have an affect.

Boxing's biggest problem is they have too many federations/belts, don't market their fighters well and don't have balanced fight cards.

one of boxing's fundamental problem is that there aren't many young people entering into the field. remember when the "Y" and other youth sports facilities used to have boxing programs? They don't exist any more and once that happened, boxing started its long steady decline. MMA will under go the same downward spiral (15 to 20 years from now) when the current crop of fighters begin to exhibit the similar physical/degenerative symptoms.

The NFL (and football in general) better get a unified strategy in place to address this as they are very close to facing a similar situation to what they faced back in 1905 when Theodore Roosevelt pushed for significant changes to the rules (under the implied threat of "or else"). This time the "or else" won't be implied.

  11. I agree with the people who are saying that CTE will push the NFL down the same path as boxing.

    Why?

    - paying the players who have CTE for their long term care for CTE related dementia will dramatically damage the NFLs as viable business concern

    - the number kids playing the game will begin to shrink (seriously ask yourself: with the accumulating evidence linking football, or for that fact any high impact contact sport, would you let your kid play football knowing that the likelihood of long term brain injury is much higher playing football vs, say, basketball?)

  12. I recently moved to NC and have ordered wings here 3 times from 3 different places and they always come out breaded. The first time I was confused, the next two times there were pictures on the menu through which I determined they would not be breaded. Wrong. Moral of the story, dominate Carolina today for ruining wings!

    where in Carolina?

  13. Effective leaders operate under something called VSEM (Vision, Strategy, Execution, Metrics/Measurement). I am willing to bet that McDermott's pitch and interview hit on 3 or these (Metrics/Measurement are pretty self explanatory in a production environment) and those resonated with the Pegulas which is why they snapped him up.

  14. Hands and feet are both highly specialized areas of medical expertise. of the 2, feet are even more specialized as they are subjected significantly higher levels of physical stress: 200 pounds onto comparatively small surface area, then factor in running (more pounds per square inch), jumping (even more pounds per square inch) and getting hit (even more pounds per square inch). Even a slight flaw in the foot is a recipe for the foot to be re-injured and re-injuries take much longer to heal and the odds of permanent injury increases.
