Branch Deanians, oh my goodness. That's funny! Green Day came out of that scene and I really like them. I still remember when I bought Aja. I wore it out. Those songs hit you in so many places, lyrically and musically. So intelligent. And the backing musicians! A who's who of the greatest session guys of the era. I'd never heard anything like it. When BB and I were newlyweds, we played it a lot on our stay at home date night dinners (we were too poor to go out).

"I am the son and the heir of a shyness that is criminally vulgar." The Smiths, How Soon is Now? Morrissey writes some interesting lyrics.

I asked him a lot of other stuff about men when you weren't around. I had lots of oddities to confirm. When we were living in sin in the days before the internets and cell phones and lots of other stuff Mrs. B. called home one Sunday evening. In the course of her conversation with her dad she asked him "Dad, BB blows his nose when he's in the shower. Do all men do that?" From that point on he & I were best buds.
BB had little need for that in those days! Just sayin'.Was "nose" a code word for "load"?

Well I think by naming the bands whom the Dead Boys were influential, you have already made my point. But I'll take the bait and say Steely Dan is mentioned as an influence, or at least as being admired, by many diverse bands and musicians. They are regularly sampled by hip-hop/rap bands, folk, jazz fusion, and rock bands alike. I can hardly think of a musician I have met that doesn't love Steely Dan. Off the top of my head musicians as diverse as, Joe Jackson, Kanye West. Steve Lukather, Mayer Hawthorne, Gov't Mule, Ben Folds, Boz Scaggs, Herbie Hancock, Rickie Lee Jones and Luciana Souza admit to being influenced by Steely Dan.
There are many tribute albums of Steely Dan songs made by respected jazz musicians and even Classical artists. College classes are taught on the music of Steely Dan.
But this isn't just about the Dead Boys versus Steely Dan (that would be ridiculous), I understand some don't like Steely Dan (though surprisingly I haven't heard many musicians who admit that), This is about music vs attitude. There are many bands/artists who contribute to the musical progression of our time. I doubt anyone ever accused the Dead Boys of having exceptional musicianship. I doubt their exceptional songwriting is what influenced Pearl Jam (I mean, how could it?).
My musical taste is all over the place. I love punk and new wave. I love Steely Dan; they are geniuses and will always have a place on my playlists. Springsteen. U2. Radiohead.I love the Barry Manilow live album where he does all the famous commercial jingles he wrote. I love the Spice Girls ( no, really). There's so much really good new music, too. White Denim, Silversun Pickups, Black Keys, the Toadies, etc. I rarely listen to "classic rock" any more and if I do it tends to be in the lineage of Chuck Berry, The Who, Bowie, Velvet Underground, MC5, Iggy and the Stooges, The Ramones, and The Clash. Couldn't care less about the attitude and the trappings. It's all about the backbeat and the energy, right Beer Ball honey?
Ut oh... Officer on deck! Misses BB is here to play!
No that's not an opening line to a song... But this is:
"Hey now you better listen to me everyone of you..."
Hell of a game... Is our fearless Mod passed out?
"We got a lotta, lotta, lotta, lotta work to do"....ha, must mean Miami! BB is indeed out. Big day for him.

Dead Boys were highly influential on bands such as Pearl Jam & Guns 'N' Roses. What bands were Steely Dan influential to? The Hipsters? Captain Beyond?
Exactly. When prog rock had built to a ludicrous level, the punks came along to tear rock back down to its basic elements. Stiv!
-
Haha, I thought of that but wasn't sure it would count as an official line since it was live. Epic line from an underrated band with great influence.I don't know if "Kick out the jams, mf'rs" counts, but that would be my fave MC5 opening line.

I'm a street-walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm
Yes! I meant to post this. "And I'm the world's forgotten boy
The one who's searchin', searchin' to destroy." Stooges.
Who are the Dead Boys?

Secretariat's ass is nothing compared to mine.
Fergy...please stop the PM messages to my wife.
Honey, you know I love you but you KNOW you have negative ass!.
Mrs. Beer Ball, please go to the "How did you win over your inlaws" thread and post something embarrassing about Beerball and your parents.
Tom, too many stories from which to choose! I'll check it out.
A great game? Didn't you hear? It was horrible, because EJ sucks.
I hear that's a rare and unusual theme around here. Well, suckage is relative. There have been moments he's made me think the Bills messed up picking him. I'll sure take the last two games, though. He's so young and appears to have the tools. Relativity tells me he's no Todd Collins/J.P. Losman/Alex Van Pelt/Rob Johnson/Trent Edwards/Fitz. Who'd I leave out? Oh, Flutie (I always kinda liked him, much to BB's disgust. Anyway, I'm not off the EJ bandwagon yet.
Mrs Beer Ball, please tell Beerball to unlock the EJ thread. I haven't finished insulting people yet!
Oh, and good to have you here.
Dean, even I don't have that kind of pull with the Beer Ball. Nice to be here, thanks!

Everyone say hi!
Hi! I'm not usually on the board since Beer Ball needs at least one wife-free space in his life. I knew how happy people would be about the big win though, so I had to take a look. What a great game. They handily dominated what might be a pretty good team and still showed they have room to improve. But for the red zone struggles, this game could have been an even bigger beat down. Hope they keep improving each week. Could be special.

Hey Mrs. Beerball -- we miss you here in TX! I hope all is well!
Hey, Redneck! We are doing just fine, thanks. Miss you, too! Any chance you'll get to a game this season?

Hi Mrs. Beerball.
Hey STP. How are ya?
me thinks he was referring to his horses Arse... :flirt:
Let's hope so. Secretariat was known for his huge, powerful arse. I saw him race at Saratoga in 1973. Seccy, not Fergy!
-
Hey! Great game today, huh? We were so disappointed we couldn't be there to celebrate. I'm sure the tailgating food was crazy good. Missed you all.
Mrs. Beerball: If he ever talks about Fergy, please know that I have a striking resemblance to Russell Crow and (in certain respects) Secretariat.
Hope the old fart had fun at the game.
Fergy, I'm going to ask BB about you. Whoa, Secretariat? Big ears?

“I am an Antichrist, I am an anarchist” –Sex Pistols, “Anarchy in the UK”. I sing this occasionally when Beerball listens to country in the car.
"I put it In 1st and then I punch it, listen to the engine roar." MC5, Thunder Express. Elemental rock.
"When I think back to all the crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all." Paul Simon
"Lights Out Tonight, trouble in the heartland, got a head-on collision smashin' in my guts man, I'm caught in a crossfire that I don't understand." Springsteen
"Oh I used to be disgusted and now I try to be amused." Elvis Costello
"Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go I wanna be sedated." This was the ringtone assigned to Beerball's mother-in-law for many years.
I wanted to include a line from a Dead Boys song but BB wouldn't be amused.

No it was goofy before. Now it's weird.
Will you do my laundry?
No, that isn't a euphamism.

If there is a lockout that is not resolved prior to the draft, teams will not be allowed to trade players or draft choices. So, anybody hoping the Bills trade down should be praying for the labor situation to be resolved prior to draft day
Don't shout. Do you have a link to support your statement?

They don't think Sage will be in attendance at class.
Blah blah blah blah blah.
Plenty of blather from a bunch of hooligans who consider Themselves to be impotent. Face it, You are lost, on Your last legs. Who knows how to deal with you and your ilk. You can't find any of Them and soon Your lentils will run out. Who can't wait to see They begging for a single lentil.
All of your lentils They belong to Us.
-
I blame They or Them or Who ever They are. They are mean nasties.
-
-
Does anyone know the address for a slut named Carl?
What's the information worth to They? For a bunch of impotent time travelers They sure don't know much.
Handwriting samples taken from the board reveal that you and They are the same person. We are on to both of you.
Unless you're going to come over here and do the laundry please help me get my husband back.
-
They snicker at your ignorant bravado and insolent tone.
Oh yeah?! You apparently don't know what a infocoligistic centrifuge & 10,000,000 pounds of lentils are capable of. Or do you?
You've also shown your ignorance and insolence in speaking to me in such a belittling manner. I expect to be treated with the respect that I've earned. Don't mess with a mother of 3 bucko. I am awaiting your apology.

They will make no deals regarding those in hiding.
Well then They will never find them...until They are too late to stop what they have planned for Them.
-
They need to know the whereabouts of the basement and the silo.
They do not care about the property and the 200 people.
They know Beerball, Sage and their leader are in hiding.
They are wondering if the lentil silo is in the basement.
If I tell you where the other two are will you spare my husband? I haven't seen him for days and the laundry is piling up around here.

Beerball lies. He is a great present-giver. This year, however there is a lot of truth in the statement "she has me, what more could a woman want?"
But I wouldn't turn down an IPA either! Merry Christmas to all of you.

Hey now! I cook!

My own thread! How nice!
Happy holidays to all of you, too. It will be a special one for our family since our first grandchild is due any day now. I've got the Bills onesie all picked out (and a matching one for John but that's another story).
Haha, I'm sure no saint. John is the saint for putting up with me. Sure was wishing the Bills could find a way to make the playoff this year...that would've been a great present for him. Some day (sigh).
