1. I love how he says the defense got old fast. Yeah, THAT'S what happened

    525907

    <_<

You mean it wasn't the defense? :o

Sometimes I wonder what the heck happend to the team that was supposed to compete for the division. Ok, injuries can be one thing, but look at the Patriots. They have more injured players than anyone, and they STILL keep on winning.

Ugh. Is there no end to this madness?

Not sure if Sal wasn't convinced the coaching staff had more to do with the team's troubles than the players.

  2. Sal needs to open up his eyes and start watching the games. The biggest difference is not their mobility. They are completely different types of QBs. Holcomb lives off the short dump off pass and never wanted to pull the trigger on the long or intermediate ball. Losman goes long at least a few times a game and has no hesitation throwing the 10-15 yard outs. The mobility is a difference but by no means the most glaring one.

    525653

I agree, they are completely different types of quarterbacks.

The thing I keep thinking about is, who cares that they target different level's of receivers. Losman is completing just over 50% of his passes, while Holcomb was closer to 60%. Ok so which one sustains drives and scores points?

Obviously Kelly dumps the ball off becuse he konws he's about to get killed. JP on the other hand says "screw that" and takes off trying to buy more time. He also creates bigger plays because of that.

With the condition the offensive line is in, you need a mobile QB or he's going to get killed every time.

  3. "Eric Moulds will be a closed subject," Mularkey said to start a news conference Wednesday at the Bills' practice facility. "It's an in-house topic, and we're going to leave it at that. It's not something that I'm going to discuss."

    The sign of a leader...

    What a dope.

Of course it's not a closed subject just because you said it was...

What the hell is this guy thinking?

  4. I think you're right - rotator cup.

My guess is that the try-out is just a "courtesy", what with his local ties.

It will be interesting to see what transpires with Kitna, though.

    524878

Couch has muscle / tissue tear in his forearms... They tried to chaclk it up to overuse, but it may be a condition that will prevent him from returning for a full season.

It's one of the reasons' Kelly Holcomb got the audition and ended up coming here.

I think the Packers thing was a shaft job by the team. Tim prolly wouldn't complain, but hs has superagent or is that superass) Leigh (my first name is a girls') Steinberg.

I guess it's better than having Drew (I'm useless) rosenhaus.

Tim can chuck that ball when healthy, just wondering how healthy he really is.

  5. It was a blessing that he went so quickly. Thank you for all who wrote when I said something Thanksgiving time. See you all at the game this weekend. It will be my last for the year.

Yes, that is what Roger would have wanted. He and his son where the special type of man that were so giving of themselves. Larry cried in his hospital bed when I went to visit him and the Bills were playing Miami that day at home. Rogr just came out and told be to get my butt to the stadium the team needed me more than he did.

    524854

Wishing you and yours the very best at this time. It may not be easy, but our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Be well.

Q & A with Bills Expert Sal Maiorana

    Jon Scott - Scout.com

    December 8, 2005 at 2:00pm ET

Patriots Insider Jon Scott spent some time with the Buffalo sportswriters to see what the heck is going on with the Bills. The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle's Sal Maiorana agreed to spend a few minutes to talk about the positives, negatives and a few other thoughts on this AFC East division rival ahead of their game with the New England Patriots.

Buffalo Bills beat writer Sal Maiorana agreed to talk about the team with Patriots Insider Jon Scott. We thank Sal for his time and sharing his thoughts with all of the fans.

    1) What is the story with Eric Moulds ? Has this been something that's been festering, or just a product of the season?

SM: Moulds has been frustrated much of the year, in fact much of the past five years in the Tom Donahoe era. His role in the offense has diminished, and Sunday in Miami everything came to a head. There was a sideline confrontation between he and receivers coach Tyke Tolbert and Moulds was told to sit down the rest of the day. Now he has been summoned to a meeting with Mike Mularkey , Donahoe and owner Ralph Wilson to determine his fate which could include a suspension.

    2) What impact will the recent events by Eric Moulds will have on his career with the Bills, since he was sent home from practice will he play on Sunday?

SM: Moulds is not going to be in Buffalo next year anyway which is why this situation is so bizarre. His cap number is nearly $11 million in 2006, so there's no way the Bills are bringing him back, and he won't agree to a huge salary cut. The Bills should have let this incident slide and just go quietly into the night, letting Moulds play out his last four weeks in Buffalo with all the hoopla.

    3) Is Mularkey safe, or should he be getting his resume put together? And how about his staff, any potential replacements there?

SM: It would seem that Mularkey's job is safe because he signed a five-year contract which has three years remaining after 2005. That's a lot of money for Wilson to eat. As far as the staff, there is a very real possibility that both coordinators might be canned. Jerry Gray's star has fallen since his defense has tumbled so badly this year, and Tom Clements had the offensive play-calling duties yanked a few weeks ago and Mularkey now calls the majority of the plays. Clements is rumored to be in the running for the Temple job.

    4) Tom Donohue has been under a lot of heat, not unlike Matt Millen in Detroit. Even though Donohue received an extension, is there any way he holds onto his job after the season?

SM: There is a rumbling in Buffalo that Donahoe will be fired after this season, despite the extension. His tenure has been a disaster as a 30-46 record would indicate. Then again, Wilson is 87 and he hired Donahoe with the intention of not having to go through this again, so it's uncertain where the owner stands on the issue. One thing we do know, he's tired of losing.

    5) What is the biggest problem with the team; offense, defense or other?

SM: Everything is a problem in Buffalo, except for special teams which have been terrific. The offense is inconsistent, nothing surprising given the young quarterback who is in charge. The offensive line is the root of the struggles, though. It's a weak group, defined by the failure of Mike Williams , the No. 4 overall draft pick in 2002 who has become a colossal bust. On defense, all of a sudden these guys got old and went from No. 2 in the league to No. 26. The run defense has been putrid, and you can't blame it all on the season-ending injury to Takeo Spikes.

    6) J.P. Losman took over the job when Kelly Holcomb went down with an injury. If Holcomb didn't get injured would he still be starting? Can you talk a bit about the difference between the two QBs.

SM: The move to Holcomb came at the right time with the record at 1-3. It was early enough in the season where perhaps a veteran QB could provide a spark. But once they fell to 3-5 and it was obvious the team was going nowhere, the call for Losman began to come. Sure enough, Holcomb got hurt and Losman went back in. He has played better the second time around, and deserves to be the starter instead of Holcomb.

The biggest difference between the two is mobility - Losman has it, Holcomb doe sn't. Of course, Holcomb makes up for that with his ability to read defenses and go through his progression quicker and more decisively. But Losman is coming along.

    7) What was the biggest disappointment (player or situation) of the season for you as an observer?

SM: Just the fact that many of us believed this team was ready to become a playoff contender as long as Losman didn't totally bust. He wasn't great early, but it was other aspects of the team that failed greater than he. The collapse of the defense is foremost on the list. It's another year of no playoffs, and that has gotten old.

    8) Have any of the team's offseason acquisitions or draft picks surprised you, positively or negatively?

SM: Not really. Roscoe Parrish was drafted in the second round to be a third-down receiver and an injury has really limited his effectiveness. However, given the glaring needs on both lines, it was a dubious pick at best. The two offensive line free agents, Mike Gandy and Bennie Anderson , have been average at best and have not solidified the line.

    9) What happened on Sunday vs the Dolphins that we didn't already hear about?

SM: Nothing. It was just a total meltdown on both sides of the ball. The Bills got too comfortable with the big lead and stopped playing, and the coaching staff had no answer for Miami's adjustments.

    10) Do you think the Bills can win on Sunday? Any predictions?

SM: They have a chance because they're at a home where they are a totally different team. New England is no great shakes this season and is beatable. However, if Moulds doesn't play and the issue distracts the team, it could be very easily be an ugly day.

    Thank You Sal.

Sal Maiorana can be found covering the Buffalo Bills for the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Sal's columns can be read regularly on the sports section of the RD&M. If you have questions for Sal you can E-mail him here .

  7. Tedy found Saddam after all those months of searching. He also is going to take off after Osama once he wins another SB all by himself

    525473

    LOL

    That one is the best.

But I would think Izzo would have ferreted out Saddam before Brewski. He is afterall a product of the US military, and he was in Iraq with ESPN's own Rob Dibble.

  8. I saw Carson's last game as Cleveland's head coach. I went on a Sunday/MNF trip that started in Cleveland where the Bills destroyed the Browns in their own stadium & by the time I got to Indianapolis for the Giants/Colts MNF game, Carson was fired.

    523669

Didn't he have a 3-13 record or somethign like that there?

I konw they were terrible that year. Or was that the half-season when Shotty was fired?

    It all blends together.

  9. But Moulds was doing well before this awful regime grabbed the reins.

    B-)

Ralphie needs a big supply of pink slips.

    523157

    A-men to that.

Time to clean house for one thing.

Draft picks or not, I'm not sure I'd be so keen to let the front office take on this year's draft, supposedly a good one.

Imagine what they could do to set the team back another 5 years if they stay.

    *ugh*

  10. It looks like the guys at that other site are having a Q&A with the Democrat and Chronicle's Sal Maiorana.

We're having a Buffalo Bills beat writer answer a few questions for fans.

Sal Maiorana from the Rochester Democrat will address a few short questions as our guest.

If you have a question about the game that you think someone who covers the Bills for a living can answer, send it to us asap.

We're taking Q's through the rest of Wed before we send them on to Sal.

    Email your question

or post it HERE. The staff at PI will chose the best ones submitted to have Sal respond to.

Now what the heck to ask the guy?

    How about this:

Will the Bills fire Mularkey after the season?

    Edited for typos. My Bad

  11. : Put anybody at QB, but cut this chicken sh-- coward Holcomb today

    490816

ok.. being noobish I hesitate to say much, but you didn't watch this game closely enough.

The Bills lost because of the OC, NOT holcomb.

The OC failed to call the long ball against the PAts #1 bugaboo. The OC failed to call the run when the Bills needed the critical first. The OC failed miserably.

Dude, if you want to castrate someonone.. blame Mularkey for letting his OC call that shi_ _y game.

The coaching staff is holding back this team. Belichick, Mangini and Mcdaniels had no problems outcoaching Bufflao today.

    That was a disgrace.

That's what you should be mad at...

NOT the players who did what they were told.

That OC is as bad as cleveland's pretty freaking pathetic!

ESPN did one thing right.. they told you why Buffalo is losing... because the OC has called a long pass play more than 20 yards in the air less than ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE NFL!

    With those receivers... WTF?

fire this (*^*&%^$^#and get someone with some balls and some football sense

  12. Who gives a s**t about that interview at a crucial time in that game. I CANNOT believe they friggin did that picture in picture crap. And Suzy Kolbers lame ass story when Schobel forced that Brady fumble was a joke. SHE KEPT ON TALKING!! Un-freaking-believeable!!

    490941

I think I wrote this earlier...

    ESPN SUCKS!

The sunday night crew is a joke, and the producer who calls the camer angles needs to get a new job.

The emphasis in TV is to switch camera angles because they think the fans get board watching one player or angle too long...

What they don't realize is that we think they're retarded when they FK up a shot so bad by talking over the action.

Dr. Z on Sports illustrated keeps a log of how many times this happens and he awards idiots points to the announcing crew at the end of the year (acually they're just grades).

Drop him a note to let him know you think ESPN Fk'd their coverage up again.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/abou...taff/index.html

  13. Christ, this announcing team is horrible. This booth needs a mute. Why the hell can't Theisman have a stroke?

    490651

Anyone biutches that the Bills can't hang in the AFC east deserves a B word-slap

    This game Is AWESOME

How could you ask afor anything else in a division rivalry.

to all those who said "Blowout"

    F _ U you stupid dip shi#'s

Holcomb has the whole game... lets see what he can do

  14. god the teddy fest will now get worse rest of the game

    490621

    WOW...

This game turned around in a heartbeat.

I go to get a beer from the fridge...

change the laundry from teh washer to the dryer....

    take the garbage out...

and holeyy crap... the Pats are back on top.

    What the hell heppaned?

oh yeah.. I checked back in on my bud a patsfan and he couldn't stop yelling "I told ya"

    man.

Still a lot of time left though

  15. Its time for Tom Donahue to be shown the door folks. Sure business wise he has helped the team, and yes, he injected some enthusiasm back into the Bills when they were at their lowest point in 2001, but it is clear as DAY that his philosophies on building a winner are not going to work here. Period.

This is a team that cannot come up with big plays in games on the road against a team that is decent or better OVER AND OVER again!! That is not just coincidence in my eyes. And it goes beyond even the players on the field and the coaching staff. You have to start with the GM in this case.

He hires coaches that he is able to control. His personnel decisions are questionable, the way to win the NFL is to start on the offensive and defensive lines and work your way out from there. Sure he made some real good moves (TKO, Sam Adams etc). But winning teams start in the trenches. How come he cannot realize this by now?

Skimp on the OL and try to bring in retreads and build a dominant OL. Sure that will work, so many teams do that right? <_<

    483580

    Agreed on the line.

Without an OL, average teams look real real bad. And good teams look average.

Of course teams with a good OL make an average QB look good.

    So which would you prefer?

  16. I've been asking myself the this question ever since the "braintrust" at OBD announced it.

Can someone please explain to me how 8-8 with Holcomb helps us more than 7-9 with JP using this year as a valuable learning experience?

    483800

You really think Losman will make 7-9....?

    no way.

He was making incredibly bad decisions. The team would give up on the coach if they left him in there. He has to get his head out of his butt and mature a little before he gets to run an NFL franchise.

Even IF they continue losing, they'r ebetter off with Holcomb. Just to show Losman what a professional looks like.
