  1. Yeah, I figured as much.    It was a face to face conversation, scheduled via Exchange.

Guy told me that I've been screwed since I got here, but there comes a time in which, regardless of fault, it's not possible to repair the relationship.  I'm welcome to try, but blah blah blah blah.  There's more to it, as well. Not that it matters.

Anyone need a Unix guy in Atlanta? <_<

Not in Atlanta, but Norcross is probably close enough. Holcomb Bridge and Peachtree Industrial. A while back when you were looking I emailed you about the place I work. Still interested? I don't work in the IT department, but I'm pretty sure I can get you an interview with the IT VP.

  2. Sam Wyche, when he was head coach of the Bengals, actually created his own language which his offensive players spoke during the game.

I believe a play called in the huddle by the QB in Sam Wyche's secret language would go something like this --

"OK guys listen up. Ouldsmay - ouyay ogay eepday. Evansway - ouyay ogay eepday. Ampbellcay - ouyay ogay aboutway evensay ardsyay andway urntay aroundway. Ethay estray ofway ouyay ockblay ouryay assesway offway osay Iway on'tday etgay illedkay."

  3. Make your own TIVO!

All you need is an OLD PC, a big hard drive, and linux!

As McDonalds says, I'm lovin it!

If you can put together a DVR with a 120 GB hard drive (record up to 120 hrs), progressive scan DVD player and DVD burner (with inputs for camcoders or VHS) for $118 that would be very impressive.

  4. BestBuy has a coupon book (available at the store in TV dept) out that is good until 07/30/05. One coupon in particular is very good -- 50% of Tivo Hardware.

Some have used it to purchase a Directv HD - Tivo (HR10-250) at 50% off of the new retail price of $699 = $350 + tax. Pretty good deal. Also, if you call Directv before activating the unit you may be able to get credit of $200 - $250. So your net cost for a HR10-250 would be in the $150 - $200 range.

Some have used the coupon for the Toshiba RS-TX20. This is a stand alone TIVO unit (120 hrs I think) with built in DVD burner. It retails for $599, but is on sale for $539. Use the coupon : 50% x $539 = $270 + tax. Here's another goodie with this -- there is a mail-in rebate for $200. Net cost : $70 + tax (tax on the $270). Also, this unit comes with Tivo basic for free; if you want the more advanced features it's $12.95 a month. Note -- this is not a directv reciever - it's a stand alone unit to be added to your current rec, cable box, antenna.

Some stores let you use the coupon easily -- some don't.

See tivocommunity.com and fatwallet.com for people's successful and not so successful stories about the 50% coupon.

Also -- the coupon book says you need to buy a TV beforehand -- that does not seem to be the case -- if you have the coupon book in your hands you can use it

  5. My point is "Will the market bear this?" hence the question in the poll.

Price for Sunday Ticket is $219 for returning customers (I think). It may be more for new people and/or they may have a promotion to incentivize things for new customers.

It's $199 for returning customers. The $219 is the "early bird" special for non-returnees. Plus the $99 for HD. DTV also fails to mention that most if not all, HD receivers can not handle the interactive features they are advertising as part of the $99 "superfan" package. There is the possiblity that an update will arrive before the start of the NFL season to change this, but at this time they are advertising something to HD customers that their receiver can't handle. I'm sure most HD viewers don't know that. Come the start of the season -- they will certainly find out on their own. That is when I suspect a lot of people which call and b**** -- if they haven't already.

Plenzmd1 - I saw that you were on the tivocommunity board also.
