  1. First I wonder how much of this comes from seeing the MLB players association win one and now bringing a second case  that fist reactions were a lot of people thinking they might win. Wildly different situations but enough to get others thinking could they also win one?

If these do become the norm it will completely change the landscape of contracts. No more backloading deals that both sides fully know will not be paid but look good. Also less long term ones since player injury will become a much bigger risk to teams. On the other hand it would stop the holdouts when a player outperforms the contract.

I'm not foolish enough to believe that Chiefs win has any impact on how we play them again in the playoffs or if we will win it all, but I am able to take comfort in the fact that we can, and SHOULD, expect this team to win every single game they play.

Great write up. This is the only part I will disagree with, and only because the two game swing in the race for the number one seed. Both teams will have players back and likely others missing if we get a round 2 of this matchup. Both will also have made adjustments based on the other team, but hopefully next time will be in Buffalo where crowd noise and energy can help swing a game.

  3. I am going to say y’all really read the question differently than I did. I took it as which would make the team better assuming the cost is low.

In this I would be team CMC. In a what it will likely really cost to get him there is no chance I want the Bills to pay that and would become a neither vote.

Without knowing what OBJ is truly going to be OK with as far as his role with a team, it is a fair concern that he could be a negative influence without throwing any kind of attitude on the sideline. Just trying to force passes to him would change the makeup. He could of course be willing and ok with a 3/4 role and a low cost contract in which case it would be a stupid easy call to sign him.

  4. The way I see it is, yes refs blow calls each week, there were a few in this game. With the way roughing the passer has been called this year, there is no way the ref should have missed that call. The good news is the team did not lose its composure and was able to finish the game.

I saw an article that said the Rams are planning to propose roughing the passer being able to be challenged. It would be nice to also be able to challenge missed calls. Of course if the refs treat it the same way they did passing interference any rule change would be pointless anyway.

I think he wants to win too at this stage of his career.  My guess is he'll go to the best team willing to offer him a longer term deal, which would not be Buffalo.  If no one is capable or willing, he'll go to the team with the best chance to win a SB this season on a one-year rental/prove-it deal.  In that case, OBJ to Buffalo makes sense.

I would guess he wants a 1 year deal. He will likely be looking for the best combination of opportunity to win plus opportunity to showcase his current skills in a way that will set him up for one more big contract.

If his knee is healed but not 100% as many would guess based on his timeline, being the number 1 option, even with a great QB may not be in his best interest. Getting softer coverage and a chance to showcase himself weekly could be the difference more than money THIS year.

I think the RB usage is going to be week to week, matchup based. I see Cook as more of an offensive weapon.

I agree but I think Moss is first man up as 1st down back in case of injury while Cook is currently seen as more of a 3rd down back and a guy you have a special set of plays for. I am not sure they are comfortable with him taking every down punishment yet.

correct… against the Panthers (forgot who was playing QB), the Patriots (Mac), the Falcons (Matty Ice Statue), the Jets (ha!), and the Patsies again.

Then we got to a good team, with a good QB and good WR’s…. And they put up 42 on us.

Week 1 is Stafford, Kupp, and Robinson…

Like I said, I hope my gut feel is wrong!

So do you feel we should have signed a veteran just because of the first game, or are you also concerned about games 2-4?

While I do think the Rams are a different problem than the next 3-4 games I am not sure it was worth the cap dollars to get someone who would have wanted to start all year.

Possibly. They could have held on to both until Tuesday and cut Haack then though; bought some time to see if anything else came out.

As you say, perhaps they decided there were enough free agent punters and those who will appear on waivers that we considered ourselves in a better position cutting Haack whatever the outcome with Araiza.

I think he was gone either way after multiple mishaps last year. This was the bills cutting him earlier than need be so he could try and catch on somewhere else after a disappointing season
