I think the turning point play was the Singletary drop with no one around him.  And the redzone play calling was gross

Was just typing the same thing - the Singletary drop changed the game, IMO. That goes for a big gain and you've instilled confidence in the offense and given the defense more than one dimension to think about. Score points on that drive and the game looks completely different.

  2. You gotta give credit to Daboll for owning this and vowing to do better, and what that says/means to his players. Continuity will help this team a lot next year, and I'm glad he'll be back. Let's not take too much for granted here, we've had 20+ years of futility at the OC spot, so much of it of the run, run, sack/incomplete, punt variety.

Daboll didn't give up a TD on nearly every single KC drive (though more time of possession for us would have definitely helped the D).

  3. Work hard with smart people in genetics and see if we can clone or recreate Thurman Thomas.

Seriously, I think this system needs a back who is  a true threat in the screen and short passing game to explode with YAC. Bring the defenses up to think about that more and that opens up more for our downfield receivers. The thing about Thurman was he phenomenal at catching but also had to be respected as a straight backfield runner. Where do we find one of these?

  4. Yes - a great trajectory, let's keep it going.

Let's add to Year 3 - put up top-tier, pro-level QB numbers that we haven't seen for... 20 years? Those numbers weren't there in year 1 and 2, even as he showed flashes and improvement. The wins are important (ok, they are everything), but it's very comforting to know they are built on solid QB talent, not like some of the smoke and mirror wins we were getting once in a while in the drought years.

  5. Having as much trouble as anyone passing the time today (still 6+ hours to go!!!). But, I'm thinking about all the things I'm NOT doing, that would usually be happening on this day.

    - I'm not trying to figure out which team left in the hunt I dislike the least and will thus kind of half-heartedly root for

    - I'm not having to root against the Pats

    - I'm not thinking about mock drafts

    - I'm not wishing/wondering for another head coach

Today is a great day in many ways!!

  6. Allen is now tied for 2nd all time in franchise playoff wins as a QB (tied with Reich and Kemp).

McDermott also tied with Saban for 2nd all time in franchise playoff wins as a coach.

Sadly, these lists of playoff wins for the Bills outside of the 90s are very short. Great to see this group finally changing that narrative.

  7. Would it be good for this team to feel a little overmatched going in? The underdog mentality seemed to work well late in the season, with all the "tough" games at the end that they won going away. Seemed like the Bills played with something to prove. Hoping that the closeness of the Colts game, along with all the talk about how Balt can run all over us, will light some fires this week.

Anybody that was TOLD they got the Sunday Ticket free find my post in this thread.

...I was told that I had renewed my $60/month for a year again. Also was told that I'd get Sunday ticket for free.  They gave me the new price and sent it via email. I get next bill and price is correct but ticket is added to new agreed amount. Tried chat, then "loyalty line" and got no where. So I cancelled it. First time in 22 years with out. I should still get most of the bills game on locals but will miss the extra choices. What a bunch of BS.  on the brightside Empire Access is coming to Horseheads this year and now without Sunday ticket I can dump Spectrum and DTV in one swipe!

ATT ruined DTV as has been said here many times.

I'll add to the evidence here. This happened to me last year almost exactly as Mike and others have described. Very frustrating, and led to me canceling this year. Bought the college ticket through our oldest son and added GamePass for 1/2 price as part of the deal. I was mostly happy with DTV over the years but it does feel GREAT to be rid of all the extra fees they charge. Hope the system changes soon.

Disappointing but I am also happy

with how the Bills did this year.  I’ve seen a lot of nay-sayers talk about us being happy with “participation trophies”.  The Bengals earned participation trophies.  The Bills did more than that.  They won 10 games for the first time in 20

years and made the playoffs which has been rare of course in the 2000s.  I certainly hope this is a building block to better years to come but given what the Bills have been through since the turn of the century I’d say a 10-6 season with a close playoff loss to a pretty good team is a successful season.

I'm feeling the same way. There's also a lot of talk about the loss being "Billsy" and/or the "same old Bills." There were some very Billsy moments to be sure, but two things about the game and one about the last stretch of the season stand out as being non-Billsy and help me feel that the team is headed in the right direction.

    1) The D did a tremendous job on the 4th down stop just at the end of regulation. Huge gut-check moment there to get us the ball back.

    2) Coming back to tie the game at 19 after the blow-up sacks on the previous series. Everyone thought the game was over, and the Bills had been on the ropes doing nothing for almost the entire half. I'm really impressed that they got up off the mat, fought back to FG position, and made the kick. That in itself was very "non-Billsy"

    3) Stepping up in the late part of the schedule, taking care of Miami and Denver, and then the two primetime wins at Dallas and Pittsburgh. It has literally been decades since a Bills team has come through when needed in the later part of the season. Add to that the way they played on the road this year, and the fact that there were no blowout losses.

I hope they can build on these elements and grow forward from here...

  10. Just made the call (been doing this for 19 years). Took about 20 minutes and I got 40/month for 12 months, free Showtime for 4 months, and free Sports Pack for 6 months. No ST discounts or offers. Was definitely looking for more, but could not get the person to put me through to "loyalty" or "retention" -- she claimed she escalated my request as high as she could while I was on hold. I didn't play the cancel card, and maybe I should have. I usually do that but I've heard more stories lately that say they just let you go through with it, and I didn't want to deal with all of that.

She did encourage me to call back later to look for additional discounts, so I guess I'll do that. Bottom line is it is definitely not what it used to be with the reps... Was particularly annoying to listen to her read some of the same scripted paragraphs several times in response to my questions. Will take this discount for now, and call back in a week. I have a feeling this may be my last year on this merry go-round...

  11. Just made my annual call. Got a good deal, but there was a different twist. I've got DTV, internet, and home phone all through AT&T. In June the phone bill jumped up 20 bucks a month when a promo rate cycled off.  I called to cancel it and they said they couldn't do anything about the phone rate, but they gave me $40/month off the TV bill. Ok, fine..., but I wondered if that would hurt me when it came time to haggle about the ticket.

Called today to say I didn't want to pay full price for Sunday Ticket. First offer was adding MAX for free, I said we need to do better. Next offer, 12.25/mo discount on the ST. OK, but we still need to do better. Came back saying they can't do any more with my TV bill, but they can take $50/month off my internet and phone for 12 months. They kept the Max for free and the 12.25 off a month. So, I'm paying $220 for the ticket and getting a $600 credit.

Crazy how they're moving the discounts around like a shell game, but I won't complain. Sounds to me like they have bottom line targets for the entire bill. Pleasant, 10 minute conversation, all I said was I'm a 20-year customer and my team is terrible this year (both true). We've got a new internet provider in the neighborhood, and I didn't even have to play that card.

For the last few years I've always made the call on a Friday -- I have no idea if there's any basis in reality for this, but I always figure the reps must be in better moods on a Friday.

  12. I've been on this board a LONG time; I'm a reader, not a poster. But, I thought I'd add my perspective from Atlanta today.

    - The Bills Backers of Atlanta tailgate was great. Good pizza and wings; it completely took over a little chunk of downtown.

    - Bills fans were out in force. Presence was noticeable everywhere, and I had a few Falcon fans make comments (complimentary) about the volume of Bills fans. You could hear their noise on the big plays in the fourth quarter.

    - MB stadium is a commanding sight as you walk up; the lines and angles are all very cool. Sightlines were great and concession prices are awesome ($2 hot dogs, $2 sodas with unlimited refills, $5 burgers and 12 oz beers). That said, it definitely feels corporate and antiseptic compared to the Ralph and places like Arrowhead.

    - As others have noted, there were a ton of people dressed as empty red seats. The whole lower bowl between the 30's behind the Bills bench was maybe 1/3 full at best throughout the game. That just seems crazy in a new, beautiful stadium with the reigning NFC champs.

    - All the Falcon fans in my section thought the Ryan "fumble" was a horrible call, and I get that. But, they all thought the Hyde interception was good and would hold up. The replays were very clear on the big HD video screens, and you could see his hands firmly on the ball before it touched the ground.

    - The Falcon fans I encountered were all very welcoming, respectful, and classy. They struck up many conversations, and many of them offered congratulations after the game.

    - It seemed like 99 out of 100 Falcon fans were wearing Julio Jones jerseys. It took me a while to realize that one fan wearing a #11 Jones (white) was a Bills fan!

    - I'll admit I was expecting us to get beat down. At halftime, I was just glad it was a close game. It wasn't the prettiest win, but it was awfully sweet to pull this one out!!

  13. I was at the game and in my seat early. Watched him kick a few through from the 50-55 range when almost nobody else was on the field, and he was kicking them in the exact direction that he made both of the long ones in the game. That gave me a good feeling when they lined up.

Being up by only 6 with Matt Ryan on the other side? As a Bills fan for 35 years, I did not have such a good feeling about that situation..... but we did it!

  14. Just made my annual call. Been with DirecTV since the Bills were a playoff team....

First rep offered the $17 off/month for ST Max ($179 total) and said that was the best she could do.

I protested very mildly and she sent me to another rep. Took him about two minutes to offer ST Max for $50 total plus a bill credit of 10/month for 12 months. Got the ticket and $70 bucks back to spend on the Bills game in Atlanta.

I would guess I've gotten deals like this roughly 2/3 of the time. The other 1/3 of the time I'll pay around 1/2 price for the ticket. I can't complain, but they can't either. I send them a lot of money every month for 4 lines of wireless and home internet too.

  15. Born and raised in the southern Adirondacks. A genuine mix of Bills/Giants/Jets/Pats fans -- each stadium is about an equal distance from where I grew up (NYC slightly closer, but not much). Got into football in elementary school and started digging the bills with Joe Cribbs, Joe Ferguson, Frank Lewis, Jerry Butler, etc.. Was really into football cards and had a couple of sweet "Action" shot cards of Cribbs and Lewis that I loved. Went to a Bills/Pats game in Foxboro early in Kelly's career where he led a comeback and you could see that this could be something special. My dad always rooted for the Bills, and he and I got into it together. Watched them get better in the late 80's and will never forget the euphoria of 51-3.

College in Rochester during the SB years. Went to a bunch of games in Buffalo, including a Monday nighter against Washington and the playoff game against the LA Raiders that was the coldest game in Bills history. Will never forget either of those. Have been back a couple of times with my kids, parked in Hammer's, and gone to away games in various places (Houston, Dallas, Jacksonville)

Couldn't ever let them go, even if (heaven help us) they go 34 years with no playoffs. They are the team, and I root as much for the city, the area, and its people. When you remove the really obnoxious drunk twentysomethings, I truly believe Bills fans to be among the best people anywhere.

  16. You received it free for 10-11 years and were frustrated you didn't get discounts one year?

Yes, in the way that you would be frustrated paying full sticker price for a new car. You know it is overpriced, and you know that discounts are part of the game. Fair point that I've had good luck with discounts over the years, but there are also a lot of (what I consider) junk fees that DTV throws on every monthly bill. It wasn't fun to pay those, even for just a year.

  17. Just made the call. Been a DTV customer for 16 years, I'm guessing I've gotten ST free for at least 10-11 of those years. Last year they wouldn't give me any ST discounts, which was frustrating. I'm still under a contract through Feb 2017, so I didn't have that card to play.

Took about 15 minutes, and I got the $50/month for 12 months. Started with $40/month, barely gave me a chance to respond, and then came back with $50/month. Not the complete package some of you got, but I'm happy. Works out to a free ST Max + another $240 in discounts, and it doesn't extend my contract. This was one of the easiest calls I've ever made, and next year I can play the no contract/cancellation card.

Interesting new wrinkle -- both the rep and the rep's supervisor came on at the end to make sure I had the rep's contact information (name, call center location, and ATT ID number). Never had them do that before.

  18. Just made the call. Definitely agree with those who said that it was tougher than previous years. Started with a retention rep who offered $5 and $3 off a month. Moved up to a supervisor who added ST Max for 1/2 price and another $10 off a month. Then she hit a wall and wouldn't budge. This is the first time they've noted my history of getting ST free (got it for free last year) and said the system won't allow it two years in a row. Kept trying on other discounts to offset the cost but didn't get anywhere. She basically told me to call back in a couple of weeks and try again.

The cancellation card isn't really in the deck for me, as I'm under 24-month contract from last year's deal. Been a customer since 1998, that usually helps a lot, but not this year. In the end it's not an awful deal, but not nearly as good as years past.

  19. I live 3 minutes outside Athens, Georgia. I'm 99% sure there's going to be a riot over this.

I don't think we'd go early on a RB but could take a flyer on one of Gurley's teammates in Keith Marshall in the 5th-7th range (maybe the pick we get for SJ13 from the 49ers). As he is like Brown and Henderson in he was a highly decorated recruit but will fall on draft day. Yet he's falling because of injury so we could keep him around to do nothing but get healthy in 2015 and then pair him with Brown in 2016.

I'm not far from Athens either, and have seen every one of Gurley's home games in person. He is a beast. Marshall has gotten a few carries this year, but so far he has looked nothing like his pre-injury self. Hopefully he just needs more time to recover, because he was fun to watch as well. Sentiment here seems to be that Marshall will stay in school for his senior season and not leave early.

  20. i second that!.. made the process bearable having the reassurances from you three!

Agreed. This site has been THE source for information on this sale, and the work of Kirby, Kelly, and Bandit has helped many of us feel a whole lot better about the process. Many thanks to the three of you, SDS and all the mods for providing this space, and all the posters who contribute knowledge.

Being a longtime Bills fan inevitably means you become conditioned to expect the worst. Your calm, informed reassurances seemed (to me) a little like a parent dealing with a child's irrational fear. "You can be scared if you want, but the sun will come up tomorrow, and everything will be OK." Thanks for having the patience to deal with everyone's concerns, and thanks for all the great information!
