The Bears gave up two thirds and a fourth to go from 3 to 2 to pick Mitch Trubinsky...

How stupid were they when they could have stayed at 3 or even traded down and still  picked up Mahomes...

Hindsight hey? Everything looks so clear.

Not really,  the Bears really wanted Trubisky...everyone knew that. That's not the same of having a huge need at the position, sitting at 10... & literally gave it up for a team to come & take him...with our pick.

Okay, but what if Ronald Wayne had taken that $800 and invested it in Amazon or something else. I'm not saying that Josh Allen is necessarily the Amazon to Mahomes Apple. But it's too early to tell. Mahomes isn't a rookie, he's in his second year, which is what Allen will be in next year before we can really compare. Mahomes also has a better supporting cast around him than Allen did in 2018.

True... but that's the point... there's many ways the Bills could have went & still can go. It's just you had something there, of need, & you chose to get out of it, cause you felt it wasn't a good deal.

Like Jeremy said "it could work out for the Bills but our lives could have been completely different"

Careful- the last time I pointed this out I was abused by other posters for “deflecting” and “who cares what other teams do? - this is a Bills message board!”

I think I asked a question of whether the Bengals message board started a new Mahomes thread every day for picking John Ross the pick before Mahomes.,

I hear you, but in think our situation is different from the other 9 teams... we actually had the pick... we weren't part of the 9 teams, we were the main team. We gave up the pick.

Yes, the Chiefs could have traded to 6, 7, 8 or 9... but they chose to wait...because the price was cheaper getting him at 10, then say the top 6.

This is a great listen, Jeremy this morning pretty much compared the Bills to Ronald Wayne ? ... this is almost indisputable facts. This is my main reason why McBeane makes me nervous! Start at 23:40... give a listen at work, or at the gym... but it's good stuff.

It's the 6am hour (HR1 of today's show 1/14/19) fast forward to 23:40 unless u care to hear the rant about Tom Brady

Nice... good listen. My only thing is & they touched on it during the show, McDermott didn't know if Mahomes would have been good or not...let alone a Superstar QB. I understand the point that was made too... Allen will have to be really good, cause from my understanding there wasn't much difference in the scouting reports for Mahomes & Allen. Both had a big arm, both were viewed as athletic, ect.

I think this will continue to be a debate until Allen becomes really good. Because they didn't take him & sold they're stock... it forced us to voluntarily get into cap issues.

It's McDermott & Beane ... who knows. I'm not comfortable with these 2 yet, I have to wait & see cause they might be active but pick the wrong guy's.

Kelvin Benjamin (even tho we traded for him in mid season of 2017, he was hurt & was really expected to make an impact for the 2018 season & we all know how that worked out)

    Vontae Davis

    Russell Bodine

    Jeremy Kerley

    AJ McCarron

    Chris Ivory

    Star Lotulelei

Just to name a few were them being active smh, hardly none of these guy's planned out.

Ivory was ok, but the fact that average RB Chris Ivory was ok over Shady because you didn't have enough good depth on your o-line is very concerning on their decision making.

Like, I know we need another CB, but that better not be a priority. They gave a defensive player(Star) they're biggest contract ($50M)to date to plug gaps over adding ANY MORE TALENT to the screaming offense that so desperately needed it...??

**Excuse me while I jump for joy**

It's just hard to judge with these two... & then we have to worry will these guy's panned out after they sign?

Man...you hit this on the money Scorp!  I thought I was the only one that was skeptical on McBeane. I like them but they haven't really gained my confidence just yet. They need to secure some better options for this offseason to help us out. They have to hit on their signings this year

They better fix this offense and start by getting some O-linemen - FAST.

They finished 31st in the league in passing yards 2017 and 2018.

If they can't get this turned around for 2019 and trend upward, somebody's in trouble.

I totally agree! they cannot ignore the offense this year.  Our biggest signing better not be a defensive player

this scorp character may have overtaken xrushx for me when it comes to being the most dramatic poster on the board in recent memory.

its especially annoying that he likes to lump the majority of us in with how he feels about the qb.

I love how he says about 5% of the analysts out there like allen. are you freaking kidding me? a qb doesn't enter talks of being drafted in the top 5-10 on a consistent basis if he's only talked about in a positive light by about 5% of these people. dude..... you gotta dial it back. just so over the top, man.

I agree with him... I was wondering when somebody on these boards were going to say something.  I usually sit back and read most of the threads.  I can't believe how may people on this specific board love Josh Allen.  It's almost like every Bill fan that loves Josh Allen is on this message board alone LOL.  Well,  I can tell you from social media, listening to WGR, Joe B Podcast...reading a lot of local beat writers...people do not like the Josh Allen move.  I hear and read more people bashing the Josh Allen pick except when I get on here... it almost seems like this forum has been living in a bubble during the pre draft build up.

I for one...just don't understand...It's like this message board decided to wipe away anything bad that was reported about Josh Allen... there's not many that like him as a QB in the NFL.

Just google "Is Josh Allen going to be a bust" and watch what pops up...you might get 6 good articles saying he won't... it's hard to find professionals that love him. That's all i'm saying

I like this.   It's clear, makes sense.   You've watched the guy and you don't think he's a football player.   That's about as good an argument against his chances as there can be.

I hope you're wrong, of course.  And I have a theory about how you can be wrong.  I think up until now, Allen's played something that's close to sandlot ball.   Go out there kid, use your athleticism and see if you can win the game for us.

I don't think that's how QB is played in the NFL any more.   I think NFL QBs are coaches on the field.   They're programmed to execute the plays, not create plays.   I think that's why Kirk Cousins got $30 million a year, or whatever.   He is NOT a guy who takes the game in his hands and wins it.   He's a guy who studies the plan, studies the opponent, and executes.

I think the Bills see Allen as a Kirk Cousins type, but with better athleticism.   I think they see a guy who will learn the system, do what he's told to do, execute the system.

I don't think the Bills were looking for John Elway.   They want a guy who by his very nature will buy into the process and execute.

I never look at it this way.   All I care about is that Allen makes it and is a solid, long-term starting QB.   If he is, I don't care if any of those other guys are better.

The GM's job is to get good value for his pick, not to get the best value.

After reading your post about 3 times... I disagree with this comment.  Why wouldn't you want John Elway?  You should want the best QB prospect you can get, now if we end up with Kirk Cousins,  and those other guy's end up being better....then heck yea...I think the poster is right... Why did they pass on Mahomes?  He was a raw prospect that had a better college career then Allen.  What made Watson not draftable in McBeane eyes???  This has to be counted when we evaluate Allen.  Sorry Shaw,  I disagree... good point. But nah, the GM job is to get the best players with his picks.

Knowing what you know now, if you could go back and change one draft pick in the past 15 years, what would it be, and what player that was still on the board would you have taken?

There's a lot... but I think the top one would be taking Russell Wilson over TJ Graham.  that one stings more then Maybin, Spiller, trading up for Losman in my opinion.

Yea because he's a QB... just because he has a 3rd rd grade in him doesn't mean a team can't overdraft him in the 1st rd. That's what all the experts were projecting... that a team will take him in the 1st. But that doesn't mean him going in the 1st rd is justifiable

He had Allen as a 3rd rd grade... wow

Then us not getting weapons around Allen. I want to see Allen succeed but I was thinking the same thing... how can he without any legitimate weapons. I love Benjamin but I've lost faith in Zay cause he had alot of drops last year.

After today, & I could be reading too much in it, but I think they are gearing up for Allen to start day 1... especially with the 1-on-1 treatment he was getting today.

Their really bold predictions are ranking Jackson ahead of Darnold and Lauletta ahead of Rudolph.

That's because they've watch Jackson play, & they saw his improvement from his sophomore season to his junior season. Jackson isn't a Running QB... which is why he haven't ran a 40, & he won't run a 40, that's just icing on the cake.

He's a turnover machine with talent. That's not a good combination. Locker had alot of talent...but he kept giving the football away, the Titans couldn't keep going.

They sure as H don't like Darnold, Allen, and Rudolph.

Because anyone that watch them, knows they are high risk players. More riskier then the other 3 in the top 6. Darnold again...turnover machine, the man just likes o fumble like Dante Culpepper, Allen CANNOT do anything else consistently but throw it deep, & Rudolph is fundamentally sound, he can do every right, he just doesn't have the arm talent to get it done. I like Rudolph but he's Ryan Fitzpatrick. He will destroy you on the short & intermediate game, but won't be able to take the top off the D.

Please watch this video and show me definitive evidence to prove that Jackson "can make every throw."  Please also take note of the game against North Carolina (where many here professed their eternal love for him) where he threw that long TD pass and ask yourself: if that had been a legitimate, NFL defensive back or linebacker, such as Jalen Ramsey or Myles Jack, would Jackson still have been able to elude that blitz or would he have been lit up on that play?

This is just pure speculation on your part tho. If it was another NFL caliber defensive player like you suggest... Jackson would have found a way to adjust. It's what he do, that makes him so special

It is the point.  Last year, in a weaker QB class, Mahomes and Watson were available at 10 and 12, respectively.  If teams in the top 5 want too much to move up, the Bills don’t HAVE to give in and pay it.

No, they almost have to base off of what you just said. It's the point that I just made, but we'll dive deeper. The fact that they passed on Mahomes & Watson... pretty much forced they're hand this year. They could of drafted Mahomes or Watson but chose to trade out to gain assets for this year specifically.

You may not agree with the price tag to get a QB, but you can't sit here & deny the thoughts process behind it. Which leads me to my first point... since they made that trade last year... they almost have to make the move. They can't get scared of the price tag... because they wouldn't have the picks in the first place if they didn't make the trade back.

They went & traded every asset they could for this moment & your telling me "They don't have to pay that high price"... then they should be fired after the season. Cause they had a shot at a QB, & didn't take it...then chicken out cause the price got expensive.

You can do that, you just can't do that in this business!

Nonsense.  No reason to believe there won’t be a very good qb available at 12, or at a minimum, easy striking range (7-10).

That's not the point. This front office made it clear last year they were going hard for a top tier QB. You can't get to this point & chicken out because you want to keep all of your picks, that you accumulated for this exact moment!

In my opinion I think this is a draft we need to address our TE position. Clay has been good but he plays injured most of the time and honestly I have been expecting more out of him over the years. It's time we draft that big fast pass catching TE in this year's draft. Buffalo has been missing that go to guy for to long. Pete Metzelars and Jay Remermisa are long missed!

I've heard good things about the TE from Penn State. Don't know much about the kid but I really hope we address that need in this years draft.

I like Genski (I think that's his name lol)... I'm hoping we can get him in the 2nd or 3rd rd
