  1. Would love to have him sit a year, though if history is any indicator it's highly unlikely that it happens... practically no first round QB gets an actual "redshirt" year no matter what the team claims the plan is in April.

Josh Allen could use a year to sit but unless the team is competitive with McCarron at the helm, the pressure's going to be on to see what the kid has got.

    Week 1 (0-0): "AJ's our starter."

Week 4 (0-3): "We believe AJ gives us the best chance to win right now."

Week 8 (2-5): "We evaluate the situation every week." ***ESPN pans to Josh Allen on the sideline every time McCarron makes an incompletion***

Week 9 (2-6): "Josh will get some first team reps in practice." ***Allen plays the 4th quarter and eeks out a win***

Week 10 (3-6): "This isn't just about winning, it's about the future." ***Allen vs. Darnold***

Week 12 (3-7): "We feel the bye week has given Josh the preparation he needs to be the starter the rest of the way..."

    ...and scene.

Then we would at least be in a position to grab a top 3 QB prospect. QBs could go 123 depending on who cleveland pick

I guess my question is which is more important, getting a top-3 QB, or getting the top-3 QB that we WANT. If the concern is just, will we get somebody in the top 3 QBs, then by all means trade up to 2 or 5 or whatever. But if they've got one guy that they covet above all others, you don't trade up to a spot when there's still time for someone else to trade to a higher spot. You end up possibly losing out on the guy you want and spending multiple draft picks on someone you're not as sure about.

The problem is that other teams like the Cardinals and Dolphins don't have the same Draft capital as the Bills to be able to move to the top-4 especially considering how much the Jets paid for that 3rd pick.  The Bills and possibly the Patriots are the only ones with the type of draft picks that can entice the top-4 teams to do a trade.

As I posted in another thread...the wild card is the Giants...What if the Giants traded Eli Manning to Jacksonville and get a bounty.  Then they will pick the #2 best QB in the draft and set the franchise up for success for the next decade.  The Colts did it a few years ago...so why not the Giants.

Honestly the only pick I wouldn't be worried about getting leapfrogged on is the number one overall. Even if we somehow got to 2 today, who's to say the Jets couldn't package #3, next year's first and change and jump us again?

I have not read a thing about Browns moving off of 4

Nor have I, I just still feel like it's doubtful they'd keep two top-5 picks, even if they're going to really redshirt one for a year (doubts about that as well). It's been 24 years since anyone had two top-5 picks in the first round, and Cleveland could use as many early-round picks the next few years as anyone's willing to throw at them, especially if they somehow flub their QB choice (which, let's face it, they're the Browns and they're likely to do). Although who knows, maybe they actually pull off the 2-QB scenario and come away looking brilliant in a couple years.

  4. You move up to 5 now and give other QB-needy teams two days to trade up to 4 or 2. Better to let the chips fall and make a move the night of, if they can get the guy they want.

If we were going to do something today I'd say try to move to 4 with the Browns, and then on draft day if the Giants bite (since they'd be able to get Barkley at 4), leapfrog the Jets.

As we are less than a week out from the draft, I can't help but find it strange how calm everything seems to be from a trade front.  Not just from the Bills, but from other teams as well.  Now watch, I'll post this and trades will happen immediately, but I'm starting to think that this class is either really even from a talent level or the GM's don't think the talent is as strong as everyone is making it out to be.

    My reasons are as follows:

1 - Everyone can pretty much agree that playoff success revolves around the QB.  We had a few anomalies this past season, but it's usually how it goes.  With that being said, the only team who has really jumped the gun in positioning themselves for a QB is the Jets.  The Broncos only gave Keenum 2 years, the Cardinals can't possibly see a long term future in Bradford, and the Dolphins have made the weakest commitment to Tanehill I've seen since us with TT.  The Colts are open for business again as well as the Giants.   Yet no one is jumping up?

If you're any of these teams, how are you not scared out of your mind that another team is going to trade up to 2, 4, or 5 and take your guy?

2 - I know that it doesn't occur every year, but unless the first pick is open for trade, we usually have a strong idea of who will go first.  In fact, some teams come right out an say it.  The fact that it could be Darnold or Allen, maybe even a non-QB, is strange to me with only 5 days left.  If they are entertaining trade offers, that also says a lot.  But what's the point of keeping it close to the vest?  If you KNOW your guy is Darnold, then why hasn't it come out like in previous drafts.

3 - We keep hearing about these blueprints for trades between us and the Giants. Unless the Giants have 1 guy they know they want and are waiting on the Browns, why has this trade not happened?  Why aren't the Bills making it happen unless they also want to see who drops?

And ultimately, that's my point.  I think that all of the top 4 guys may have the same grade, and that grade may not be that far off from the Tier 2 guys.  We hear rumors about Lamar and Mason as early as 12.  If that's true, I'm starting to think that the GM's are being patient because they just don't see the different in talent and are actually waiting on non-QB's to see where they fall.

I'm wrong a lot.  But if franchise QB's are what we know them to be, then this is strange how patient people are being.  Who knows?

If the Giants trade rumors are true then I wouldn’t want them pulling the trigger on it until the browns’ first pick is in. Don’t give anyone the opportunity to jump up to one, like say the jets trading up from three to get ahead of us. I’m sure the browns would be happy with picks 3 and 4 and the haul they’d get from NY. If Gettleman is Beane’s BFF then I’d say maybe it’s true that a deal is “in place” with both sides agreeing to shut up about it until the big night. Not a huge trade up fan but if they’re going to do it they should get their ducks in a row but hold off on making it public until they absolutely have to.

  6. I was born in Rochester to a Rochester-local mother and a West Seneca-raised father, so there was never any question where my fanhood would lie. Grew up much farther upstate, St. Lawrence county, which is a pretty decent mix of Bills and Giants, and some Jets fans from what I remember, although having been a teen in the early 90's a lot of people around there were jumping on the Cowboys bandwagon and never got off.

Saddens me to say that after 20 years living in South Florida my dad talks more about the Dolphins than the Bills these days. Not sure if it's the local TV coverage or if he's just getting senile.

I'll speak frankly about the topic.

The greatest QBs of all-time are all white.

Most QBs in the league are white.

So !@#$ing what?  It happens to be a position in football in which white men succeed more frequently than black men.

No one likes to talk about Cornerbacks like this.  You know why?  Because it doesn't !@#$ing matter.

SI actually did a story on it:  https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/04/26/white-cornerbacks-jason-sehorn-kevin-kaesviharn-donny-lisowski

"All 64 starting cornerbacks in the NFL are black. So are their backups. One hundred-sixty black cornerbacks, give or take. Not a single white one. It’s been this way for more than 10 years."

This is why it pissed me off so badly when Tyrod Taylor whipped out the race card (yes - he did - go look it up).  It was unnecessary and it was nothing but deflection.

Sometimes, white people do better at certain things; sometimes black people do better at certain things.

    Big !@#$ing deal.

Good article/graphic about the cornerback position, quarterback, and center which, at least toward the end of the timeline they illustrate, is more skewed than QB.

I would choose NBA or MLB > NFL all day if I had the skills to excel in each.

Some guy named Greg Holland just signed a one year 14 million dollar deal in baseball.

Thats a sweet deal for a middle reliever.

Imagine if all the NFL QBs who got drafted by Major League Baseball had opted to go that route... Tom Brady as a Montreal Expo, anyone?
