  1. The NFL needs good data on penalties to understand the problems.

    Hire officials fulltime

Have every play of every game reviewed by 3 different officials.

Were penalties that were called correct?

Were there penalties that could have/should have been called.

Is there consistency between the three reviewers?

Use these reviews to grade the refs who called the games.

Reviewing every play would be tedious, but should help the officials be more accurate and consistent. The NFL has enough money to pay for this.

With the data, you can learn where there are problems with calls, which penalties are problematic, what rule changes might help

  2. Facts. All the numbers that have been presented from various states are numbers, not facts. Each political organization can present numbers favorable to their agenda. In fact, I read that NY undercounted Covid deaths by not including those that had another possible cause such as cancer. A death may look like a covid death, but if the test is negative because the swab did not go deep enough for a good sample,  it will be reported as not. We have some helpful info, but do not know the full picture. These numbers must be kept in perspective. The number of covid deaths will likely be much higher than reported now.

NY showed that a horrific situation could be controlled, and the NFL might play.

FL, TX and AZ showed you can let things get out of control, and may cost everyone the nfl  season and more.

  3. This is a very significant event,

First, there is a substantial level of misunderstanding regarding vaccines. There were 300 million deaths from smallpox in the the 20th century. That is the entire population of the US. Health care workers risked their lives to immunize people in third world countries in efforts to eradicate this horrific disease. Eradication of smallpox was an amazing achievement. Read up on this. Smallpox was horrible. Polio was a terrible disease. Parents would not let their children out doors in the summer as they feared polio. I was one of the first to get the polio vaccine. I remember standing in line at the school getting the vaccine. We are far removed from the devastation of these diseases. Measles, rubella, mumps, etc. Immunizations have been so successful, people today do not understand how successful vaccines are. A vaccine for covid would be wonderful.

Covid is horrific. Just because people have different responses to infection does not diminish how serious this is. We are now seeing 2,000 deaths a day from this, despite the most extreme restrictions in history. That would approach 1 mlllion deaths in a year. We need to take every caution possible.

  4. I saw both Marlin and James play in War Memorial Stadium. Marlin was exciting, James had a powerful arm. The book Third and a Mile by William Rhoden was about the struggles of the first black quarterbacks in the NFL. It has been awhile since I read it, but I recall that when James Harris came to Buffalo as a rookie, it was not easy time. I'll look for the book.

  5. I have had family section tickets for years. I have gone to Bills games since 1963.  It is a good experience in the family section. No drinks spilled on us, no vomiting, no fights. While I am older, and have back and hip pain, I still like to go to games. I can make use of the seats I paid for and actually sit for most of the game in the FS. I have found I cannot SIT in the sidelines seats, as I cannot stand the whole game. No distractions, I can watch and enjoy the game.

  6. I believe it would be very helpful if all replay reviews were done at real-time  speed. That would be more fair to the refs, and faster. No super slow motion replays. If there is no conclusive evidence to overturn at game speed, the play stands.  Egregious errors would still be corrected. Why review something in slo-mo? The refs can only see the play in real time. Replay should be the same.

  7. Can someone expain why the Ryan fumble was not an incomplete pass?

Hughes hit his arm before it went forward causing a fumble..His arm then went forward, but he had not regained control. The forward motion without control did not change the fumble to an incomplete pass. The fumble already happened, and that could not be changed,
