  1. Back in 2017, in McDermott’s first year, we played the colts very late in the season in a game we basically needed to win to have any chance at making the playoffs. This was the memorable snow bowl game. Well during this game, with 4:13 seconds left in overtime, McDermott punted on 4th and 1 on the Colts 41 yard line. This game ending in a tie would have all but sunk our chances of ending the drought. Of course we got the ball back on our own 30 with about 2 minutes left, Joe Webb threw the long pass to Deonte Thompson, and then McCoy broke the long Td run, but regardless of that miraculous outcome, the decision to punt there was TERRIBLE. His bad decisions get magnified in big games when we lose, but people easily forget all the other really bad ones when we win. I don’t want a coach who punts 3 times on 4th and short on the opponents side of the field like McDermott did against the Bucs. If Mike Evans turns around we lose that game, and if Joe Webb, Deonte Thompson, and Shady McCoy didn’t pull out an incredibly unlikely win against the Colts in 2017, the drought would have gone on even longer.

  2. I used to be a much bigger SU basketball fan, but in the last 5 years or so I basically turned into a very casual fan. I would look up the box scores after they played, but didn’t really watch any games unless they were in the Tournament, didn’t follow recruiting, etc. I pretty much went all in on the Bills and became less of a fan of my other teams. Anyway, after yet another crushing Bills playoff loss, I decided I wanted to stop putting all of my passion for sports into one team and thought I would get back into SU basketball, so I watched last night’s game. I couldn’t believe how bad the product was. From the constant replay reviews on obvious calls, the horrendous officiating, the announcing, the lack of replays on the broadcast after questionable calls, the flagrant foul on what was basically just a routine collision. It was all very frustrating and almost unwatchable to me. For those of you who have watched a lot of college basketball recently, are games commonly like this? I played and watched basketball for many years (although not recently) and have never seen plays like that draw a flagrant foul. Is this a new officiating emphasis, or was it more of an anomaly?

  3. If you recall from the published text messages between Richie and Jonathan Martin from the scandal a few years back, it seemed like most off-days, Richie, Martin, and some of the other lineman had a routine where they would always round up a few women and then go for dinner and then to a nightclub. Now I don't know if his idea of "something to do" has changed over the past few years, but if not, I don't think he's really saying that there's literally no nice restaurants/clubs in Buffalo, but just that there's quite a few less than in Miami. I also don't think he meant this in a bad way, as he seemed to be saying that it makes it easier to focus on football.

  4. I watched Dareus most of the game when the Bills were on D. He probably played only 35-40% of the snaps, and came up limping on multiple occasions. He did have one nice pass rush where he forced Ryan to get rid of the ball quickly and I believe resulted in an INT. Didn't seem like a big factor in the run game, but almost all of the Falcons runs were outside the tackles. He was also doubled-teamed about 80%+ of the time on passing plays.

  5. That field position doesn't matter if you have a bad team?

We only stayed within 6 pints because Newton was as bad as Taylor yesterday and Rivera tried to blow the game yesterday with that FG.

If the Panthers had better field position on some of those FG drives, they could have been touchdowns. I can't believe you're trying to argue that field position doesn't matter. It may not be the most important thing in a game, but to say it doesn't matter is ludicrous.

  6. Vomits over self. Filed position is the least of my worries, it is such an antiquated argument.

You only have to win field position when you have a bad team. Flipping the field doesn't mean a damn if you have an offense that cant move the ball.

How is field position an antiquated argument?? That makes no sense to say that field position doesn't matter. There literally would never be a situation when you would rather give your opponent the ball at their own 30 instead of their own 20. Why would we not upgrade the punter if we can do so for essentially the same cost?

  7. Kind of an interesting comparison between Tyrod and Kaepernick

Lets compare these 2 players stats. This is over the same period of time. Leaving the politics out of it is there really a big statistical difference between both QB's? When you consider Colin's salary could be in the $5-$6 million base salary range with Bonuses which one would you rather have? Kaepernick is not good enough for a team to pick him up yet Tyrod is our starting QB.

    Kap

    6-4 225, 29 - 30 win record (this includes a 1-10 season)

    69 games played, 59.8% completion, 72 td's 30 int

    Rushing - 2300 yards, 13 Td's

    Sacked 171 times

    4-2 playoff record

    Tyrod

    6-0 221, 14-14 record

    29 games played, 62.3% completion, 37 td's 14 Int

    Rushing - 1248 yards, 11 Td's

    Sacked 78 times

This isn't a relevant comparison at all. Tyrod has only been a starting QB since 2015. You're using Kaepernick's stats going back to 2012, which was when he was actually a very good QB. In the time since Tyrod has been starting, Kaepernick has a 3-16 record. You know who else has better stats than Tyrod if you compare their stats from 2012 on? Matt Schaub, Josh Freeman, and Robert Griffin.

  8. When you really get down to it, being a "fan" of a team means we are tying part of our overall happiness to the successes/failures of the team. If someones happiness does not increase when the Bills win, and they do not feel any worse when the Bills lose, I would not really consider them to be a fan.

For many Bills fans, it seems like they will not gain any satisfaction/happiness from anything the team does, unless they make the playoffs. Even more extreme, some fans say they will not be happy with making the playoffs and getting knocked out right away, but will only be happy with a Super Bowl victory.

If I were to try to assign values to this, I would say a Superbowl win could be worth 5,000 points, a playoff berth worth 1,000, and a regular season win worth 100. A regular season loss could be -100, another season without making the playoffs -1,000, etc.

Of course in this scenario, the Bills have negatively affected my happiness over the past 17 years. Still, even in a season where most do not expect us to win many games, my overall attitude/happiness is still influenced by whether the Bills win or lose, and I would go even further and say that things like touchdowns, big plays, even first downs and penalties matter to me as a fan.

  9.

Right... Carson Palmer is kind of the new Bledsoe in that regard. His numbers are a bit better, but different Eras.

Funny, I was just watching the Amazon series on the Cardinals and thinking that Carson Palmer is the new Bledsoe.

Who was the right guard in 2014 when Marrone wouldn't play Kraig Urbik because of a supposed vendetta against him? Have to put him on the all suck team? Was it Cyril Richardson?

  10. Due to the lack of winning teams, a lot of the best players on the Bills don't get a lot of attention. Who do you think is the most underrated Bill of the last 17 years? I would say Terrance McGee. He was never an amazing player, and despite being injured a lot later in his career, McGee was always a very solid corner, and one of, if not the most feared kick returner in the league in the mid 2000's. He also spent his whole 10 year career with the Bills. Who are some other players from this era who you guys feel are underrated, and were better than people give them credit for now?

  11. A football players career can end instantly without notice from injury, many have, and along with it goes all the money and for some the high rolling life style that came with it.

It sets a bad example for younger players in my humble opinion.

    with all due respect

I do agree that being careless with money does set a bad example. That being said, the same could be said about buying luxury cars/watches/clothing/jewelry/running up massive restaurant bills/any other example of athletes/celebrities/rich people living extravagant lifestyles. The majority of NFL players with large contracts seem to spend quite a bit of money on their luxurious lifestyles, so to single McCoy out for risking $200,000, and to suggest that this is a punishable action, or much worse than what so many others are also doing with no consequences, or people attacking them for it seems a bit much.

You clearly missed my point, but that's OK. Several others have, too.

BTW, see "Shadymccoy" at the top, right hand side of the photo? To me, this indicates it was shared on some social media. Just stupid.

What exactly is your point then? I just don't think he did anything wrong.

  12.

I do not know, and that's a decent point. But he has yet to deny it is his, or explain why this went public. Perhaps he sent it to someone who is indiscreet and/or untrustworthy. Maybe he will say it was all a joke, or was shared without his permission or knowledge. But honestly, I really have no clue why people think sharing their questionable public doings, is a prudent thing to do.

Certainly the NFL and the Bills can't be happy about one of their star players flaunting something like this. Obviously he won't be cut, or probably even disciplined. But IMO, for a veteran leader to call negative attention to themselves (again) for their non-football related activities, is something I just shake my head at.

I can't help but shake my head at how stupid this post is.

    1) Shady did not send this tweet. He was not publicizing it. He was certainly not "flaunting" it as you accuse him of doing.

    2) Sports betting in Las Vegas is not illegal. You seem to think that it is illegal, or that it is somehow morally wrong for an individual to take a risk with their own hard-earned money.

    3) You accuse him of calling negative attention to himself for making a perfectly legal, and very likely an extremely wise investment. Sports betting is not against the law, not against NFL rules, and at best, it is vaguely "wrong" in the minds of a small group of the population that opposes it. I would love for you to explain why you think McCoy's act of placing a bet, and then not tweeting about it will negatively affect the team.

    4) You said, "Obviously he won't be cut, or probably even disciplined." I can only hope you do not think our team's best player should be cut for his 100% legal, and likely smart decision. If you actually do, please find another team to follow.

  13. Oh God.

I believe this kid will try hard but the entire NFL passed on him except for Rex. What are the odds Rex was right and everyone else was wrong?

The entire NFL passed on him?? He was a 2nd round pick. You act like he went undrafted. Do you think every single player who isn't a first round pick is unwanted by every single team except the one that drafted him? By your reasoning, for every good pick in rounds 2-7, there is one team who thought the player would be good, and everyone other team thought he would be a bust. For every bad pick, there were 31 teams who knew he would be a bust and 1 team that thought he would be good.

  14. Where's the OP in this thread, sans the opening post? Surely he/she has read the rules regarding staying with the threads you create.

    5 posts.........

I was having a discussion with a couple friends about Manning, and whether he would try to get into coaching/a front office role now that he's been out of the league for a year. I don't actually think the Bills will hire him; just thought it would be an interesting theoretical idea, seeing as he was always regarded during his playing days as one of the best football minds in the league.

Also, I typically just read threads/posts on here, and don't post much myself. Not trying to spam, just thought the topic was interesting, even if unrealistic.

  15. Although this seems extremely unlikely to happen, what would you guys think about the Bills going after someone who is widely believed by many around the NFL to be a great football mind, and has been mentioned before as a potential GM, should he ever decide to take that route...Peyton Manning.

I don't expect this to happen, but it seems like many people believe he would make a fantastic head coach or GM some day. How would you feel if the Bills were to go after Peyton Manning for their open GM position?

  16. You seriously need to get a life, if you are so jacked up because of what Jerry Sullivan writes. The guy has been around for a whole long time and writes editorial pieces. That means he gives his opinion. I find them insiteful with a whole lot of context, since he has been covering Buffalo sports for so long, with just enuf humor edginess and disgust. You don't have to agree with him. But he is an excellent writer.

And btw that organization that Sullivan supposedly worships? They have won 5 Super Bowls and played in a total of 7 since the 2001 season. And have played in the last 6 Conference Championships. So while as Bills fans, we loathe them as a rival. You have to respect what they have accomplished.

You tell him he needs to get a life because he's supposedly "jacked up" about a Sullivan article, yet by that same reasoning it would seem that you need to "seriously get a life" for getting "jacked up" about this post.
