  1. I think everyone on TSW is speculating on which RBs will make it on the final roster, and so am I. There are way too many mouths to feed in the backfield, and if Greg Roman's playcalling history is any indication of how the opportunities will be distributed, it looks like Shady will get the vast majority of touches (see Frank Gore). That being said, I don't get how so many of you guys are counting out Fredex. The age is clearly the biggest issue and without watching the game, doubting the 34-year-old guy playing the position that causes the most wear and tear is very sensible conclusion to come to. But Jackson is not your typical back. If he relied and top end speed and agility, or running guys over with brute force, he would've burned out a long time ago (the demise of most backs in the league). But Jackson doesn't rely on being athletically superior to anyone on the field; as you've all witnessed, he uses patience, vision and balance to optimize the space he is given, often just out of would-be tacklers reach and always falling forward.

The criticism I read here is that he's lost a step, but I don't see it. He is the guy that saved us in the opener last year against the Bears, despite critics saying the same thing. What has to be acknowledged is the complete lack of creativity and competence of the offensive playcalling last year, which I blame for the stagnant running game even more than the poor line play. Jackson's skill as a back (let's not forget his blocking) far outweighs the athleticism of most other backs, because a lot of them are more athletic and literally all of them are younger. Until he truly shows a drop off in performance, I'm not counting him out.

Ultimately its Whaley's decision to make, and by judging his moves to get Brown and drafting Williams I don't think he shares my opinion.

Fred is a great guy, but lets be honest, he has never taken this team to the Playoffs so this whole Fred Jackson still has it doesn't really resonate with me. BTW, i would be a great guy too if I was overpaid to be a mediocre back. Cut him. Both Fred and the Bills will be better off.

  2. I didn't see a date yet but this is awesome...

@EricFisherSBJ: Upcoming 30 for 30s - Tyson vs Holyfield, Pete Carroll, the Bills' Super Bowl run of the early '90s

I would expect it to be around the time of the SB. Espn usually plans these to coincide with a related event.

I love the 90's bills teams are more popular for losing 4 then if they would of won two...yeah, i'll go with that :)

  3. Watching the post draft analysis on espn and polian said he thought the bills had a good draft, but then went all melancholy about the fact they didnt take a Qb and would be entering the season with EJ manuel and "retread" Matt Cassel. He sounded like Eeyore.

Imo the bills signing TT is just like drafting a qb. The benefit is he's been a disciple already behind a SB winning qb for a few years. I didn't think any of the QBs left after the top 2 would be able to play in the NFL this year. The experts said all had big flaws and were all projects, none projected starters. So wth is Polian's issue. Plus we have 3 project QBs as it is.

He might be right. I'll leave it at that, like him, nobody had any idea.

  4. Noted NFL expert Jerry Sullivan never fails to disappoint with his brilliant "insight" into the NFL. Last night he tweeted that it was amazing that AFC East teams were drafting to deal with the amazing Tom Brady. Dolphins picked a wide receiver, Jets a defensive tackle not known as a great pass rusher. Great insight Jerry. This morning Jerry mentioned in his column that the Bills defense was slightly overrated. Where does that come from? The Bills D last year accomplished wonders, considering the dysfunctional offense they had to bail out time and again. But take some comfort in the fact that Jerry is picking the Bills to finish about 8-8 this year. You see Jerry is such an expert that in his weekly NFL picks over the past five years, he has never managed to reach the .500 mark. And that's not picking against the spread, that's just picking winners regardless of points. That level of incompetence is not easy to reach.

There is good money in irritating the general public. He's just trying to make a living.
