  1.

Percy and Sammy have been hurt pretty consistently so he's had every opportunity and he's had 2 ok games...(1) 60 yrds and a TD while the Pats were curb stomping us, and (2) a solid 84 yrds on 9 catches and a TD in the freak show that was EJ coming back against the Jags in London.

It's not reality to suggest Bob has been anything that numbers can defend. He's halfway through his 3rd season and yet he's never been a catches guy, or a yards guy, or a touchdown guy. Someone said he's a blocking guy? Ok...IDK maybe I've seen him throw some good blocks.

I guess his defense is that he's played with EJ and now is in Roman's system which isn't WR2 friendly (point guy made above)? I mean...he just isn't showing me anything this year.

I have to turn on Woods at some point and it's shaping up to be next offseason the way things are going. I would like to be swayed but his one big day on a crazy London game v. the jags while EJ was out their flailing in desperation to overcome bouts of insanity isn't going to do it on its own.

    Great post. "Flailing" LMAO

  2. Jerry Hughes may well be the most talented player on the defense. He also has a maddening propensity for ill-timed and stupid penalties. Should the coaching staff just let him play? Should he be benched for a game(s)? Should the team take some other sort of action with him? Is he accountable for his actions? Does his play outweigh the penalties?

    What do you think?

I know I brought this issue up a few times during the offseason/preseason and most seemed to downplay the concern fairly aggressively. The problem here is that you can dismiss the concern and say he's worth the penalties and you may be right, for now. However, he's clearly a flag magnet. It seems plausible, if not likely, that one of these ill-timed personal fouls will directly cost us a game. This question really can't be answered until the season is over. My opinion is that Hughes is a game-changer. The hope is that when it really matters, in weeks 14-17, will his play lead us to a win, or will his reputation and behavior on the field somehow cost us a playoff birth? The reputation part is probably the worst thing. That one on Tannehill yesterday was about as dumb as it gets, and he'll never get the benefit of the doubt on a close call doing things like that.

  3. I don't normally let the announcers bother me, but Wilcots was horrible today. It seemed like he was extremely pro-Miami all game, and far off base in several of his remarks during replays. Am I imagining things?

  4. I'm as excited as anyone about the prospect of Tyrod being the guy. Defenses are just beginning to build a book on him and there are many that fade out of the league quickly defenses start taking away their best stuff.

Just from the bills look at Doug Fluties drop off between 98 and 99, Losman had a promising year in 06, Trent fooled everyone for over a year (bill Walsh saw something in the.kid...). Fitz was awarded a big contract based on a 5 game sample under Chans system.

Late this year we may have serious discussions about whether Tyrod is any good. It won't be until 2017 until we' have a really good idea

Right on. I don't want to take anything at all away from Taylor but this is a legitimate concern. Being "new", with Greg Roman, and having so many skilled guys to feed the ball to is propping him up big-time. Roman's approach to the game, especially the ground game, along with his experiences with Kaep, Alex Smith and now Tyrod may be unprecedented in the NFL. I feel like Roman is much better equipped than previous regimes at staying a step ahead on adjustments. I feel like his influence could be strong enough to make Tyrod want to follow him actually. Our success offensively could be 75% Roman. I think any of the QBs in the race could have good numbers at this stage. I love Tyrod so far, and that's fine with me if it's as much or more Roman and supporting cast as it is Tyrod. That all said, most of his throws have been on the money and when he misses, it's always the right way to miss. He keeps it nice and low over the middle. Time will tell with Tyrod. I already know Roman is the man.

  5. He's old school. Give him another game or two to get into season shape folks.

This is a quality take, and one I tend to agree with. He's a "character". Characters matter. I'm not talking about him being "a character guy", I'm talking about him being a character. Guys like Dixon go a long way to help a team gel, and probably help get through tough spots during the year. This opinion is based solely on what I have heard about him over the last year or two. I have no personal experience with the man. I get the idea he generates lots of laughs and I think that's really important in any work/team setting.

  6. I was talking about this yesterday and came to the conclusion of a tie as well haha.

Not sure about this logic. A tie is better than a loss, so this potentially could give both teams a better chance in a tiebreaker race. There's no loser. This is in place of one of the teams gaining the full benefit of a win. They actually split the credit and it's possible that hurts us worse. I'm too tired to write an example scenario, but plenty of them do exist. It would interesting to really dissect it statistically. It clearly depends how each of those teams finish out record-wise, but that would be a given in the statistical analysis.

  7. Great responses so far folks. I wasn't really worried about him. I just haven't been watching many individuals out there and was wondering what he was up to so far. I feel like this week could be big for him. A couple sacks and a forced fumble perhaps. Maybe even a pick. Is there anyone outside of Manning/OBJ to be concerned about? How's their offensive line? This game makes me kind of nervous for some reason. I guess they all do.

  8. How is he playing so far this year? Who's he likely to face against the Giants? Breakout game potential? I just haven't been paying that much attention to him. I realize defenders can "quietly" play very well and maybe that's the case here. I think we really need him at his best to make the playoffs, especially in the later stages of the season. Thoughts?

  9. TT's throwing motion is beautiful It is so effortless and natural. In the three games he has played so far he has been consistent with his high percentage his accuracy, arm strength and his ability to move. Compared to the pedestrian "game managers" we have watched for a generation he is a joyful revelation. Isn't it a pleasure to watch a TE being incorporated into the offense? Isn't it a pleasure to watch the whole field being utilized in the passing game? Isn't it a pleasure to watch a swing pass thrown accurately and with the right touch so the back could catch it in stride?

As I said in another post Roman is a tremendous asset for TT and TT is a tremendous asset for Roman. He allows Roman to use all the tools in his tool kit.

As you smartly noted Incognito is a terrific addition to the OL. He has by far been our best lineman. I didn't watch Glenn too closely in this game. But it seems to me that he is much more sluggish and slow to react than in his rookie year. I don't know if he wasn't able to get in the shape in the offseason due to an illness or injury. Something is wrong?

Without a doubt the Bills played an excellent game. But something is amiss with the Dolphins. They were dreadful! They played with little spirit and desire. The TD pass play to Clay in the beginning of the game was a disgraceful exhibit of effort and tackling by the defense. It was embarrassing. Playing with little interest and heart in your home opener is a good way to get the HC fired before the season is over.

Philbin is done, possibly tomorrow, or a week from then.

  10. All I know is if it was the Bills who gave up a lead like that on the road and have it come that close on the final potentially game-tying drive, there would be outrage that it was "Billsy."

Billsy is such a great term. I'm not 100% sure it applies that well in this example however. Billsy would be finding a way to lose, not finding a way to hang on. Seriously, when you boil it down, Billsy is all about losing. Billsy would be having come all the way back, taking the lead, and then losing anyways. For example, the Oilers managed to lose the lead in the comeback game, but then tied it up to force OT.......but still lost. That's Billsy. It may actually be disrespectful to the term to refer to a winning effort as Billsy. (I'm confident you know all this based on your post. I realize you are not saying their giving up the huge lead is actually Billsy, merely that others may suggest that).

  11. I sort of see it as Rex/Thurman taking a risk by calling the game this way. I expected some of this approach, but with a bit more exotic pressure. I thought Robey had a real chance to shine in coverage and blitzing. The pace of the offense and formations were working for NE, and Brady is nearly impossible to stop when he's on. Rex deserves some heat here. He was out-coached. If he dialed up a lot of pressure and Brady had torched them anyways, what would the review be on that? I think less scathing. Thus, it was riskier to play it conservatively. The lack of timely adjustments is concerning. The intensity with which NE was studying the pictures on the sideline was noticeable to me.

  12. Tyrod - A stats geek could give a decent probability. Guessing it would end in right around a 1% chance. But it would be a standard probability of shared with any starting relatively new NFL QB. His odds then likely start to go down if you weigh in draft status and depth chart to start his career.

Lynch- has a legit shot, but he'd either need a couple OJ like seasons or to play at his current level into his mid 30s to be in the conversation. I bet the math puts him up into the 5-10% range

Lynch's chances are MUCH better than 5-10%.

  13. 0.65% for Taylor

    78.5% for Beastmode.

I wonder what fans of other teams who visit this board think when they see threads like these, complete with serious responses.

    Under.

I don't happen to wonder about that. You're a brilliant contributor to TBD and I really appreciate that, in all seriousness. I guess I just happen to believe it's an interesting question, but I don't expect all to agree. I'm sure the Marshawn part of this has been debated at length elsewhere already. I would appreciate a number from you regarding Taylor's chances though. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

  14. I think Rex expected his $300 million DL to win battles up front.

Instead they got dominated and were a non factor.

Our $108 million DT says there was just nothing they could do. Aww shucks..No biggee.. That OL was just too darn good.

Do you think it's good for Rex to try to take the heat off the players or is it a mistake?

Do you think he's coming down on poor performing players and/or those who committed stupid penalties, behind closed doors? I'd love to know how he's really handling it.

  15. This is fair, although it's simply not realistic to expect them to stop Brady when he's firing on all cylinders. I highly doubt any team beats NE yesterday. We're at a coaching disadvantage every time against these guys on top

of it. I'm seeing a lot of second guessing the defensive gameplan and I get it. However, it's an unfortunate fact that the Patriots are on a level by themselves, especially when in a groove offensively. What's really a shame is that we pretty much handed it to them with penalties. That's a big part of the coaching disadvantage. The silver lining is that the level of competition should pay dividends. I am not afraid of the Jets or the Dolphins. We'll take 3 of those 4 games.

  16. I think we're middle of the pack until we see success consistently against good teams. For all we know, the Colts aren't that great this year.

This is a concern of mine. Similar to Chicago last year. I could see Indy blowing up this year. They'll be at least .500 if Luck is playing and they don't change divisions mid-season, but that would be really bad for them. Outside of Luck, Hilton and Davis, I don't see much there.

  17. What an awesome home opener win against a great Colts team. We've said for the past few years if we could somehow find a good qb this team is ready to win it all and it looks like we might have one in TT.

Two things that need to be fixed this week:

    1. Jerry Hughes seems to be continuing his dumb and undisciplined play. Three penalties for 40 yards. Rex if you do ONE thing this week, please sit him down and explain that he isn't worth having on the field if he continues to play like this. What a freaking joke. Stop jumping offsides, stop getting 15 yard personal fouls you hack. This guy is going to cost us a game if this keeps up, and it's been a problem for a long time not just yesterday.

    2. Tyrod was quick to praise his Oline, but it seemed there was a big discrepancy between the left side of the line--which played well-- and the right side, which seemed to cave in most every play. I haven't re watched the game but it seemed like Miller and Henderson weren't holding up at all, and Indy isn't known for a fearsome D line.

Did anyone else get the sense that our O line is only half fixed?

I brought up this concern about Hughes like 2-3 months ago and if I recall correctly a few people dismissed the concern. This is a major problem brewing here. Getting multiple calls in the first game will get him even more attention. He'll even be less apt to draw holding calls. I get that he's intense, and you have to take the bad with the good at times. My problem is simply that it will rear its ugly head at a catastrophic time. If Rex is only sitting him down about this for the first time, then he's not doing a very good job in that area. Maybe Rex wants him going over the edge a little now to set a tone? I didn't really even see specifically what happened, from the end of the upper deck.
