Unlike the NBA and MLB, the NFL has actually taken recent steps to lessen punishment for positive Cannabis tests(See Josh Gordon). A tangible example of this was the raising of the threshold for a positive test from 15 nanograms per milliliter to 35ng/ml.
In addition the NFL uses suspension as a last resort, coming into effect after the fourth positive test.
That shouldn’t surprise anyone given that the NFL, more than any other sport, does everything it can to keep players on the field.
    Here is the NFL breakdown:
First Infraction – Mandatory Rehabilitation Program
Second Infraction – 2 Game Fine (Can Play Un-Paid)
Third Infraction – 4 Game Fine (Can Play Un-Paid)
Fourth Infraction – 4 Game Suspension
Fifth Infraction – 10 Game Suspension
That’s right, the NHL does NOT include Cannabis on its list of banned substances

So, according to this (and assuming it is for weed), Dareus has committed his FIFTH infraction. These guys are killing me. :wallbash:

  2. I've watched football for a LONG time, and to my eyes Bruce WAS the best ever! If the man had played his entire career in Dallas, the case would be closed in a hurry!! I have never witnessed, nor will I ever again, a player who absolutely scared the manure out of a team more than Bruce Smith! Laurence Taylor was isolated on the weakest links offensively and turned loose, and Reggie White and David "Deacon" Jones played in exactly what your question brought up.... the 4-3!! Bruce is simply the best, in my book, and I feel wonderful every time I think about him being a Buffalo Bills DE!! What memories....

The other matter that rarely brought up when comparing Bruce to Reggie White is White primarily played on the left side, while Bruce played on the right side. That means Bruce routinely went up against the LT, which is traditionally where the best OL player lines up, while Reggie would usually lined up against the RT, who is traditionally less talented than the LT.

  3. Normally I would agree but we have a new OC and they are installing a lot of new things to the offense.

Fair point. Kugler taking over for McNally probably bolsters your point further. However, I would be more worried if he played a skill position. I still think he will be fine come September. I am more worried about McKelvin.

I think this a complete overreaction from Peters' people; although, it is likely a bluff. I also don't think such threats will do Peters no good. The Bills seems ready for a battle, but I so very much hope it doesn't come to that.

By the way, I started a new thread on this because I think this report elevates the situation to where the ongoing discussions needed a new title.

That is really the only leverage Peters and his agent have. This is just posturing. Another Parker client, Devin Hester, also made the EXACT same threat.

As a veteran, Peters really doesn't need that much camp. So, as worrisome as this may be, he'll be there in September.

  5. Beyond being an ego-maniac, I've seen Shockey drop WAAAY too many passes for my liking. The Bills offense of recent years have a difficult enought task just staying on the field after 3rd down, to add someone who routinely drops passes throw right into his gut.

    No thanks!

Shockey is head and shoulders above any TE we have on the roster. Now, is he worth a first rounder with all his baggage? No! But if they can pull something off and give up a 3rd (if we have one we may have gave that away for Stroud) or a package of mid round picks or maybe even a 2nd, we would be crazy not to make that move.

He would be a huge upgrade and especially for a quarterback who consistently checks it down to a back or tight end.

  6. I thought they had to get caught while in the NFL. It would seem putting someone in Stage II for behavior prior to getting drafting would be wrongfully discriminating against people who have made past mistakes. It leads to questions of where to draw the line... how far back to we go? Is a HS pot bust the same as a freshman year in college incident? For that matter how do we say a Freshman year incident isn't as bad as a Senior year failed test?

I misunderstood the article. If he had tested positive at the combine, then he goes to stage two. If he just says he smoked pot, it won't put him in Stage II.

  7. Buffalo BIlls vs New York Jets Bills WIN 9-6(OT)

I will post these from time to time...it is fun to think back where you were when historic Bills games took place....

I was 14 and at public skate at the Nike Base..they had the game on the radio..blasting over the loud speakers..I remeber everyone going crazy when Smerlas blocked the FG...good times....

I will never forget that day. What better way to celebrate your 18th birthday than to witness it firsthand!! Then to be on the field after the game!

  8. With the Fed continuing to raise rates to keep inflation in check they're screwing people like this and the millions more with adjustable mortgages.  All to keep inflation from going above 2.5% per year.  :w00t:  Anybody have a business plan to make money off the looming foreclosures?  I would like to take a look at it.

    This Ought to be Fun

Come on! Adjustable rate mortgages go up when interest rates go up. That is the risk you assume for an ARM. That is why you save about 200bps on the interest. Overall, rates are still very low.

Also, inflation is the enemy of the economy. If left unchecked, it will create an environment where those same people will have to pay more for everything. Also, there is a real risk that they will lose their job if the economy goes in the tank.

  9. Certainly everyone makes mistakes. But that whole 2000 draft was horrible. That draft class should be reaching their prime and they all stunk!

The whole Mike Williams 2002 draft was bad too!

As a matter of fact, for those three years there are only a handful still on the roster and only 2 real contributors in Clements and Schoebel.

    No wonder we stink!

People always become critical of the GM when a draft pick doesn't pan out.  It is not an exact science, however.

The pick of Flowers was a bad choice, but only because he was taken with a late first round pick.  If I remember correctly, the general consensus was that he was a late 2nd round or 3rd round pick.  The Bills (Wade Phillips) were wowed by him at the Combine and "reached" to take him.

This didn't necessarily have much to do with John Butler and the scouts.  All of the NFL teams have reps at the Combine and their overall lists are about the same.  They could have different opinions about a player based on their needs, how they'd fit on their teams and what came out of the interviews.

So, again, the worst you can say about the Bills' selection of Flowers is that they took him too early.  Had they not taken him, another team would've a little later in the draft.  He just didn't make it as an NFL player.

You can apply this same logic to the drafting of Mike WIlliams with the 4th pick in the draft.  On everybody's board, he was rated high. Had the Bills not taken him at #4, he would've been taken at #5 or sometime soom after.  He just turned out to be a bust with the Bills. You can't really blame TD for picking him.

  10. What?  Fall apart?  Indy faced a good team playing their best football, and came out rusty, which many knew was a risk after so many weeks without a meaningful game plus a bye.  And they rallied and started to take control of the game.  Vaderjackt makes that kick 8 or 9 out of 10 times, and is the guy you want kicking it.  Sometimes Jordan would miss a buzzer beater, and sometimes not.

And I don't think the Bills fell apart in their super bowl years.  They were not clearly the best team in any of those four Super Bowl years, and came up short in each obviously.  But Norwood makes that kick maybe 50% of the time, so if that hypothetical coin comes up tails, everything is different.

Maybe it is as a lifelong Bills / Red Sox fan (don't ask), but I've always been bothered by the idea that finishing second in a particular event at a particular time has to do with character.  Try to be the best, and try to play your best game each time out.  But don't turn into a head case when you either aren't the best, or things don't go your way.

Indy will probably win it all next year, and we won't have to hear about this stuff.  And like the 2004 Red Sox, I hope the Bills can give me one four game post season winning streak (3 if they get a bye) and erase the idea that losing those four games was anything other than not winning four particular games against four very good teams.

I disagree the Bills were clearly the better team in the first Superbowl.
