  1. In recent memory?  I think, yes!

We don't go up against 11-1 teams very often with talk of #1/2 seeds a reality for us.  That being said, I'm sure the pundits will say, when we win, that Pitts schedule thus far has been one of the easiest in the NFL, and perhaps they weren't that good after all.  Is that too cynical a take?

Anyway, we've had some big games and beat some good teams in recent memory, but this just feels different.

You forget TT and Davis.  You ignore that we are one hit away from having a low round draft pick or a FA who everyone else didn't want being the ball carrier.  RB 1a and 1b will each carry the ball about 20-40% of the time. Let's just ignore that.

That's a fair point.  I was thinking more of a single lead back.  But with respect to the OPs take on it, I just don't think it's the time to abandon Beane's philosophy to this point.  If the best guy on the board, when we're up is an RB, go get em!

  3. I don't see him breaking with his philosophy, and the philosophy that got us to this point.  Motor did a fine job last year when asked to.  I can't imagine using our first pick for what might amount to RB depth.  If Beane doesn't keep looking far down the road we'll end up in cap hell again before we know it.  And no Superbowls again...to show for it.  My $.02

Fortunately we don't have many glaring holes but I could imagine Beane keeping the first picks on the Def side of the ball.  A CB perhaps to stay young there, in case we can't resign White.

    Go Bills!

  4. Great observations from the OP.

I don't know if I should give more credit to Fitz and the offense or, like our offense, think the whole team came out flat.

Watching that first half just reminded me that Fitz-Magic is a real thing.  Fortunately, it's a fleeting thing.  During the 2nd half we did a better job of adjusting and bottling him and the running attack up.  It seemed like the Phins were playing with a lot of pride, and that can be enough to win an NFL game.

Overall, I am concerned that our offense couldn't deliver the blowout it should have, but we did enough to win.  Keep doing just enough to win...my blood pressure can take it. Go Bills!

  5. Quote

What I was struck by were the WRs, TEs, and OT getting some separation and completing catches (KB notwithstanding).  They didn't seem to make those catches in previous weeks.  Where they better thrown balls from Barkley?

After KBs drop in the endzone I didn't see him get thrown at again until later.  I remember the ball was popped up with Jet's defenders diving for it...and there was KB just standing there watching it happen.  No fight, no care.  Am I remember that play correctly?  I also don't remember seeing him on the field much after that play.  I missed a portion of the 4th quarter, so if someone could fill me in.  He don't seem to care, so I'm happy to see him on the bench I guess.

  6. A 10-6 record is what I was privately figuring would happen. However, I still wouldn't call it a success. I think anything other than the post season is a failure. Even if they crash out of the first WC game we could call the season a success. I'd say an 8-8 record with a post season berth a success. I think this roster is at the point where anything but post season games is a failure.

I know it's tough to judge a team based on a moveable target, like how many wins it takes for the play-offs but that's the reality of the NFL these days. 8-8 could do it, and 11-5 might not be good enough. A good team is going to win the games it needs to.

This loss hit me harder than it should have. At 10-6 there's still a chance. Go Bills!

  7. Changes have to be made. My guess is Marrone's continued employment is contingent upon making changes quickly this off season. Who is he legitimately going to blame for this mess? Himself? Fine, goodbye! Or most likely, find fault with the OC and fire him. That'll at least show Marrone is trying to make changes and right the ship and it'll save his job; THIS season. Next season...I think he's gone unless we win the division.

Bottom line, to save his job, he's gotta make changes that are more than swapping equipment managers.

The other reason Marrone may keep his job this year is a possible lack of available and viable HC options.
