How am I delusional? Tannenhill was not a very good QB last year. I've watched a ton of his games and have seen him live twice. He has some skills and he is a heck of an athlete. I'm not saying he cannot be an NFL QB down the line just that I think a team would be extremely dumb to pick him in the top 10. It just seems odd to me to invest a top 10 pick in a kid who ranked in the bottom half of his conference's QBs. I forgot about Mizzou's QB earlier. You could make a real case Tannenhill was the 7th best Big 12 QB last year (out of 10).
His last season he didn't win and he didn't put up good numbers. That doesn't scream top 10 pick to me. Also, he was surrounded with a lot of good offensive talent. A lot of the losses were the defense's fault but he should have had better numbers. I think if you are a top 10 QB you should at least be productive or win. Tannehill did neither. Doesn't mean I don't think he would be a good development pick, I'm just against picking those guys in the top 10.

I would be pretty upset. I've watched Tannenhill play for the past two seasons and not once did I think there is a guy someone will pick in the top 10. I know that is not real scientific but go ask fans from schools in the Big 12 about Tannenhill and most are shocked he is going to go this high. He might have been the 5th or 6th best QB in the Big 12 last year. He was for sure behind RGII, Weeden, Jones and Klein. You could make the case the Tech QB was better than he was.
I know college production is not the end all be all but it seems strange to me to take a QB in the top 10 that was a middle of the road QB in his conference.

To me Blackmon is the safer pick. If Blackmon is off the board then I would be fine picking Floyd. I really like him. At the same time, I would be pretty upset if we took Floyd over Blackmon. I think Blackmon is about the safest pick in the draft. I think he is going to be a good player in this league for a long time. My only question with him is will he be good or great. Will he be a Bolden type guy or a Fitzgerald type.

My problem is I don't think Tannenhill is one of the 10 best players in the draft. Does a team who is not desperate for a QB need to reach for one?

On the Blackmon DUI. He says he wasn't drinking. Don't get me wrong, he still wasn't doing the right thing but I guess in Texas if a police officer pulls anyone underage over and even smells alcohol you get a DUI.
Blackmon was suspended the next game and 100% owned up to the mistake and handled it really well.

Weeden won't be around in the third. It comes down to age with him. If you think he can make it on the field the first year or two he would be a great pick up. If you think it will take him 3 or 4 it probably won't be worth it. Weeden can really sling it. I'm paraphrasing but Gruden said something to the effect if you took Weeden's top 20 throws, and compared them to Lucks, RGIIIs and Tannehill's, Weeden's were more impressive.
Weeden can really, really play. Some team's probably won't touch him but if he goes to the right situation he could be very good. I think the Weinke's comparisons are way off base. If Weeden was 22 he would be a top 10 pick, IMO. But of course the age thing is a huge factor.
Not that it has much to do with the draft but Weeden beat Luck, RGII, Tannehill and Foles all this year.

I've said it before but the fact that Tannenhill is being discussed in the top 10 baffles a lot of people who have watched him play the past two years. I'e watched Tannenhill a ton (on TV and in person) and not once did I think I was watching an NFL QB, let alone a top 10 pick. I'm just an arm chair QB but he wasn't a winner and wasn't productive (despite having a ton of offensive talent). Yes he is athletic but if he can't put up big stats in a passing league like the Big 12 how is going to do it the NFL.

He's still being ranked as a top 10 player in the coming draft. But if he and Floyd's production and skills are similar I'll take the bigger & taller player.
I wouldn't mind selecting Floyd. I just don't think their production is all the similar (now of course there is a ton that goes into that, like QB). If Blackmon was on the board (somehow) and we passed on him for Floyd I wouldn't be thrilled. Of course I'm just a Joe Schmo but I really don't see Blackmon as being much of a risk.

I don't understand the talk of Blackmon's height. Yes he is not 6'4" but some of the best WRs of all-time have been in the 6 to 6-2 range.

I'm not opposed to Floyd at all. I like him a lot but that being said I don't think he is that close to Blackmon. I think the thing that often gets over looked when talking about Blackmon is consistency. First and foremost, I'm an OSU fan so I'm 100% biased. Go look at Blackmon's game-by-game stats starting his sophomore year (when he became of starter). You won't find one bad game. He showed up every Saturday and dominated.
That being said, I think Floyd would be a nice pick for the Bills at 10. He seems like as super talented prospect.

MAyock also said that Ayers was the best defensive player coming out of the draft a couple years back and that Pettigrew was the next big thing @ TE. There is a reason he is working for NFL Network. Tannehill is a bum and will grade out to be no better than a career backup. He will NEVER, NEVER, be a franchise caliber QB.
Well to be fair Pettigrew has been a really good TE. Maybe not the next "big thing" but he has been very good. He will never be a big play guy but he catches the ball and is a devastating blocker.
I live in Big 12 country, I've seen Tannenhill play a lot (even 2 or 3 times in person). I don't get it. I've never watched him play and thought there is an NFL QB and he had some talent around him. Now of course I'm not making my living evaluating talent either. I just think there are a lot of people in the Big 12 area who are shocked this guy is considered a top-10 pick.
I am with the Barberian here. I am not sure why everyone is doubting Tannenhill so much. He has the NFL arm that Fitzpatrick does not. He might need a little work but at the end of the day, Tannenhill has the tools to be a franchise QB.
In the NFL today franchise QB's win ball games. If the bills take him at #10 I have no problem with that. I don't believe trading up should be an option though.
Part of my reservation is that Texas A&M wasn't any good this year. They were supposed to be great and struggled. Now of course that is not 100% on Tannenhill but QBs who don't win a ton of games in college concern me, especially in the top 10.

I'm a huge Weeden fan but I don't see him going in the first. I agree though, if he was 5 years younger you are talking about a top 5 pick. There is not a throw the guy can't make. Absolute cannon for an arm. I think he has the best arm in the draft (not saying he is the best QB, just that he has the strongest arm).

I live in Big 12 country and watch a lot of Texas A&M football. I've never once seen anything in Ryan Tannenhill that suggests he is an NFL QB. Sometimes there are prospects you might not like but you can at least see why some people might get excited for them. Tannenhill is one I don't understand in the least. He is a pretty average college QB.

Also, want to add the kid played his guts out every saturday. I don't remember a whole lot of players in my lifetime who have played as hard as he did game in and game out for OSU. He does have some maturity issues but those never crossed over to the football field.

As someone who has watched every down of his college career and followed him closely the "character" concerns are a little overblown. We aren't talking about a kid who has been in trouble with the law. Are there some maturity issues? Sure but more along the lines of horrible upbringing (when he was born his mom was 15 and his dad was in his 40s, mom has been in and out of jail all his life) than being a bad kid. When most people talk about Dez it is not that he is a bad kid, he just has had little guidance. The whole being late to games is a complete fabrication. How can you be late to a game? The teams stays together the night before the game at a hotel. These guys are on complete lock down before games.
In Dez's 2 and a half years at OSU there was not one peep about him being a character concern or behind the scenes issues until the NCAA problems. Even then it is important to note Dez didn't break any rules. He got suspended for lieing. All in all he seems like a good kid who had no guidance before college and little since.
As far as his workouts, his 40 was about what I thought. At 6-2, 220 a 4.5 isn't bad, he's never been a real burner. His cone drills were horrible but his explosion drills (vertical, 10-yard dash and broad jump) were pretty good. He also looked good catching the ball.
Do I think he is a top-10 pick? Not really but to me he is by far the No. 1 WR in the draft. As long as you've got a solid organization I really don't worry about him too much.

I know it is just one game, so take it with a grain of salt, but I went to the Cotton Bowl last weekend and Snead looked horrible. Threw some awful ints and was way off on the passes that didn't get picked.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to rub it in the faces of all those who wanted to draft Pettigrew in the first round, and especially the ones who wanted to do so at #11. I knew there was no chance in heck of the Bills drafting a TE in the first two rounds...as did anyone else with an ounce of football knowledge, so nah nah nah nah =p.
Anyway, just look at the Lions. They got him late in the round so at a much better value, and the fans are so chagrined by it that they are booing the guy on stage. Even Lions fans understand that you don't draft TEs until all your important positions are filled. Pettigrew is a much better value to the Lions than to any other team, but I still think they should have addressed other needs, and I understand the Lions fans sentiment over this pick.

I guess I don't understand your point. Since some Lions fans booed the pick at the draft that means it wasn't a good pick? I'm as big of a Pettigrew fans as you'll find and I really didn't want the Bills to take him at 11th. That doesn't mean he isn't going to be a stud in this league for a long time.
I guess I don't see the point of proclaiming your great football knowledge before these rookies play a down of football. If Pettigrew goes on to play in this league for 10-12 years and is a multiple time pro bowler is it still a bad pick because he is a TE?

I don't know how it works but I imagine when teams workout Coffman they put him through blocking drills. IF he shows potential as a blocker I would think he would shoot up draft boards. It is not so much that Coffman didn't block but that he never even lined up at TE in college. He was basically a big WR. He is a talent and I wouldn't mind picking him up if he is around in third.
As many have already said, Oklahoma State is pretty unique among spread offenses. They really use their spread to run the ball. Pettigrew also missed about a fourth of the season and the coaches probably did not do enough to highlight him.

Not much but in today's Peter King Column he has some brief draft rumblings from a scout that metions the Bills and Pettigrew.

I really like Coffman and would not mind him becoming a Bill. That being said there is a reason he might drop to the third round. He doesn't have great experience blocking. He is basically a big WR. That might be fine for the Bills, I don't know what the coaches want.

We don't but from all the lists on all the sites and all the tidbits we hear, 99% of them list Pettigrew as the the No. 1 TE in the draft. Does that mean he will be the first TE selected? No. Not many people listed Donnie Avery as the No. 1 WR last year but last year's WR group was a litte tricky. If you asked 10 different experts, you might get 10 different answers on who the top WR was. That doesn't seem to be the case with TE this year.
By all accounts, Pettigrew seems to be looked at as the cream of the crop among this year's TEs. Back to my orginal point, it is going to be a lot harder for a guy like that to fall to the Bills, than a player like Hardy last year.

That's what people said about Hardy in Round 2 last year.
I'm not saying Pettigrew will be there, but I have seen more Mock Drafts that have Pettigrew available in the second round this year than I saw mock drafts predicting Hardy would be avialable in the second round last year.
The difference is that Pettigrew is the consensus No. 1 TE. Hardy wasn't the No. 1 WR. It is a lot easier for a player ranked 4-5th at his position to fall than the No. 1 player.

I think this is a pretty interesting aspect. On one hand, if the Dolphins pass on him that says a lot. On the other hand, I'm not sure the Dolphins would be fired up to reunite a combo that massively under achieved last year.
