  1. After a different GM drafted QB Jim Kelly in 1983 draft. Polian is promoted to GM in 1985 and drafts QB Frank Reich in 1986 draft, very astute move. Reich is responsible for "BIllS" going to several Super Bowls when Kelly was hurt in 1990/1991. After Polian drafted Manning, Polian neglected to find another Frank Reich. In NFL (not for long league) every player eventually gets hurt, even Payton Manning, and not to have a quality back up QB hurt Colts and cost Polian his job.

  2. The three headed business monster of Brandon,Littman,Overdorf, control the money, and THEY hired a very weak football guy,Nix,to run football side. They know Nix will not demand more control. They know Nix will stay within budget. Those three are going no place as long as Ralph owns team and "Bills Nation" will have to suffer supporting a loosing francise, cause money is more important than winning.

  3. I still think Ralph bears some responsibility - but the guy is on his last legs. He's entrusted the everyday running (of the non football side)of the franchise to the three headed monster of Littman, Overdorf and Brandon. If you look at the front office structure it appears the Treasurer is ahead of the CEO. That in itself should tell you something.

Littmann/Overdorf and Brandon to some extent presided over the worst period of football in Buffalo. And are constantly rewarded. Presumably because Littmann has made Ralph a lot of money.

It's not the GM, It's not the coach (I like this coach a lot, BTW - I think he's the best we've had since Marv) and it's not the QB. Though he's been awful lately, I think it will come out that he's been significantly injured since the Washington game.

A friend of mine who has been an USA Today reporter for a long time says the organization is being run into the ground by people who actively know what they're doing. Most of it is dictated by money and Ralph's kids. They want the most money possible for the franchise when Ralph dies. Anything that affects the long term bottom line of the franchise is not even up for discussion.

You can bet the cash spent on Fitz and Williams is going to be a huge issue this offseason. I think Fred Jackson is as good as gone after next season. Especially if he doesn't match this season's output.

All this to say I think we need to invest heavily on both lines this off season to be even competitive next season. But we're gonna rely on the draft to build the lines. And that is just going to screw us over next season - before we look for a new coach.

This is a very dysfunctional franchise - with no realistic long term plan. Or even short term for the matter.

Good coaching, creative offensive game planning and a healthy QB made the early part of the season for us. That and that he didn't have to hold the ball long. Once the WRs and OL got into a funk, it was over. That also masked our slightly above average DL.

But the talent and depth just isn't there to mask it anymore. For that we do need to spend and spend wisely ala Barnett.

But I don't think it's any accident that AJ and GMs of that generation are on the outs. Whaley is our only hope. That and that our FO sees the light soon or this franchise gets sold.

    That's all I got.

You are so right about "Bills" being run by "three headed monster". They care nothing about winning only about making money. Why else would Brandon only interview one guy for GM position. Some one Brandon and company knew would not make waves and upset Ralph by demanding more authority in making personel discisions. Until Ralph is no longer owner, "Bills Nation" will have to submit to dictators who care only about the dollar.

  4. Pro football is the ultimate team sport. Every player on everyplay must do their assignments correctly or negetive results could occur. Teams like Greenbay/Pittsburg(very successful small market teams) seem to have established a way of doing "business" that works for them and they don't deviate from it. They "grow" their own players, bring in very few freeagents and keep their core players. Of course both have found hall of fame QBs and that helps alot. Buffalo seems to be adopting the Greenbay/Pittsburg plan. I hope they stick with it. Its not the plan thats not working out for Buffalo, its their execution of the plan. Bad evaluations/bad drafts/bad results. Maybe if Buffalo could find hall of fame QB it might speed up process too.

  5. 7-9 is better than I expected when season started so I'll take it. Granted starting 3-0 got my hopes up but I'm a pessimist so a collapse doesn't surprise especially with key injuries and lack of depth. Losing record gives Bills a better draft pick (not that it's going to be guaranteed) to addresses the Bills biggest needs (Pass rusher, OLB (nice to get both in one pick), shut down CB or #1 WR). No QB needed in first round, Fitz is adequate. Unless the Bills win out or the D moves up in ranking to #20 or better overall, Edwards has to go.

Side note: The Bills have to dump this rely on building through the draft philosophy. Free agents will bring leadership, quality and depth (see Barnett), they just have to convince players to sign here.

The D has been the biggest disappointing aspect of the Bills this year IMO. Unless the Bills win out or the D moves up in ranking to #20 or better overall, Edwards has to go.

  6. Its a team sport. Bills problems go way further than Fitzpatrick. No rookie QB is going to make Bills a playoff contender. Bills need OT and wide outs who can handle physical DBs. He also needs a defense that can stop opposing teams from running up score and killing game plan before half time. Give Fitzpatrick some weapons before blaming him for bad offense.

  7. After listening to Gailey’s pressers during this November death march, am I the only one that is concerned with his coined response regarding defensive breakdowns: “I have to check the film as I was too busy going over offensive stuff?” This guy is the chief executive officer on game days and only appears to be overseeing half of the operation; I am all for delegation, but he doesn’t seem to have a clue, nor does he care to have a glue about defensive football and we all know the adage that defense wins championships!

He is the HEADCOACH and yet on gameday he coaches as if he is offensive coordinator. Is he even aware of what is defense is trying to do? He seems totally focused on offense.

  8. If the fans keep paying for crap (i.e. the last 11 years) then what incentive does the owner have to change?

The fans have enabled this owner by buying an inferior product. Ralph Wilson is beyond criticism at this point in his life. What the heck does he care anymore. It will be up to the next owner to right the ship.

For his part, Ralph Wilson has made changes in the last two decades or so, but he keeps hiring mediocre personnel. Mediocre coaches and general managers are hired every three years or so and he still expects different results. Even the diehard, Pollyanna, Kool-Aid fans are now beginning to realize the Bills will never win under the Ralph Wilson ownership.

Sadly, unlike some of the younger fans, I have known this for a very long time.

Ralph is surrounded by enablers...by the name of Oversdorf, littman, Brandon. This three headed monster cares not about winning but making money. They fail to realize that winning equals success equals money. If Buffalo wins, fans in Buffalo and around nation (and now around world) will watch them play. That will result in money, lots of money. Loose and only diehards (like us) care. Not so much money. The three headed monster in attempt to save money for Ralph, has cost Ralph more money. Only in Buffalo.

  9. Did not like Marv Leavy the GM but Marv Leavy Head coach was excellent. Marv Leavy would never take a good to excellent player and play him out of position. Keep your good to excellent player at his position and find another player who plays the position of need to play the postion. Otherwise you have weakened TWO postions. I remember situations during Marvs tenure when injuries occurred and switching players to new positions was suggested and he refused. I think for a few years FOOTBALL people actually ran things at one bills drive and this allowed Leavy to make sane football moves. Unfortunately for Nix/Gailley they are working in "hooterville" where Ralph Wilsons money mafia people run show and football people must make decisons based on money peoples telling them what to do...look forward to day when Wilson mafia no longer make football decisons and one bills drive is no longer located in "hooterville".
