  1. It's the time of the year when Bills coverage is lacking, and there's no game on Sunday for us fans to look forward to.

However, us bros over at buddynixon.com have you guys covered! We had our weekly podcast on Wednesday, and if you missed it, check it out!

We discuss the Giants game, our BYE week MVPs, our evaluations on Chan Gailey and our 2nd half of the season/playoff predictions.

    Here's the link: http://www.buddynixon.com/podcasts/b...cast-12-101911

Also, we are still crankin' out the columns, lots of good reads up on the site and more to come!

    Go Bills!

  2. In week six, the New York Giants are favored by three points against the Buffalo Bills, making this the fourth game of the season where the Bills are labeled as the “under-dogs”. Even though the Bills continue to prove the doubters wrong week after week, they sure don’t mind that label. “That’s pretty much what we expect,” says Bills RB Fred Jackson, who currently is ranked third in the NFL with total yards from scrimmage. “Our opponents are usually the big name teams. They have a bunch of big name guys and that’s what the national media is focused on. But right now, we don’t have any problems flying below the radar.” Will Buffalo continue to prove the national media wrong and continue adding wins to their already 4-1 record? Let’s get right into another Blake’s Breakdown and find out.

Rest of the indepth analysis here: http://www.buddynixon.com/game-coverage/blakes-breakdown-buffalo-faces-the-new-jersey-giants-in-week-6

  3. A minor dilemma going forward is what the Bills will do at the wide receiver position. Donald Jones got a much hated high ankle sprain during Sunday’s game, and is currently projected to be on the mend for six weeks. That’s probably a short enough span for the Bills to leave him on the active roster (although they have previously injury reserved players with lesser injuries). However, that does leave the team without their second receiver during that time span. I think there’s several routes that the team could take, some more likely and others more speculative.

Option #1 – The Bills basically stay on their current course and play Naaman Roosevelt in Donald Jones’ place. Stevie Johnson was on WGR radio today and said that he was most impressed by Roosevelt because he didn’t take any snaps during the week at Jones’ position on the field. Roosevelt had a good game against the Eagles, with five receptions for 41 yards. Fitzpatrick clearly doesn’t have any problem throwing to him, targeting him seven times during the game, which led the team. From there, Ruvell Martin would continue to stay on the roster as a special teams player and emergency receiver. [/Quote]

  4. welcome to Week Five. How can you not get fired up about this game? The weather forecast is predicting lots of sun, with temperatures in the high seventies to low eighties. Both the Eagles and Bills are coming off tough losses to the underdogs from Week Four and it will be exciting to see both of these teams fight as they try get back on the right track. Both teams have high-powered offenses capable of scoring well over 30 points a game, not to mention it’s been eight years since the exciting Michael Vick has paid a visit to the Ralph.

    Go BILLS!

  6. Like I said… I don't correct the spelling and grammar of others… and this is one of the reasons why.

But if someone is an aspiring journalist…

Thanks for pointing out those errors. As a journalism major, I'm sure you're aware of how easy it is to miss small typing errors like, especially after getting lost a sea of words when writing all day.

I expect my editors to correct those mistakes, but like I said, those are easy to miss, and I think our editors do a great job.

I agree with you, though. I'm sort of a stickler as well when it comes to being punctual in my articles because I also believe that a well written and grammatically correct piece improves it's validity.

This game is pretty important to our defense imo. They played well vs the Chiefs, terrible vs the Raiders, and "bad" vs the Pats, although considering how many points they're putting on everyone, bad is a relative term there. Cinci has an offense they should be able to stop. If they fail we'll know we have a deeper problem. If they succeed then at least they can stop the people they're supposed to - which is more than a lot of previous Bills teams can say.

Yes, this will be another good test for our defensive unit. Live I've stated before, I think we have a better pass rush this week due to the fact that the Bengals O-line is below-average.

I also believe that our defense will continue to improve as the season progresses (as long as everyone stays healthy). Remember, it's still early in the season.

  7. Opened OK here as well.

No issues with the writing. Not sure I get theintended purpose of "stars" in quotes for the Bengals? It could come across as snide or condescending, if that wasn't the intent, reconsider.

As far as football analysis goes, I would suggest breaking down the matchup between their O and our D and vice versa.

I believe ya that Fitz and the Goonies got it goin' on relative to Green, Dalton, and Benson LLC,

Fitz is up against the Bengals sack-happy 7 though. How does our O-line match up against their D?

Likewise the Bengals law firm will try their case against our D, which seems to be working in an "Either Or. Not Both" manner when it comes to run vs pass D.

How does our DL match up against their OL? How does Benson compare against McFadden as a running back? Do the Bengals run a good screen? Oak's screen gave us fits when we focused on the run. Keep in mind 3.4 YPC move

Some other pertinent facts you might have considered highlighting, or choosing to investigate a bit (source: NFL.com unless indicated)

-Bengals have been in the red zone only 6 times in 3 games, with 2 TD to show for it (source: Cold Hard Football Facts)

-Bengals O is last in the league in 3rd down conversion percentage (only 24%)

-For a young team, they're playing disciplined on offense: 6th in the league in offensive penalties

-They've given up 7 sacks and 13 QB hits in 3 games. That's almost top 3rd of the league. So what's up with the weak redzone and the poor 3rd down conversions?

-They are making 1st downs rushing to the left, but have about equal 1st downs and negative yardage rushes to the right - all of their 1st downs to the right went for 10+ yards though.

-Bengals D is drawing a lot of penalties - 27th in the league for defensive penalties

-They are not quite as good for points given up and 3rd down conversions allowed - slide to 6th or 7th.

Basically I see it as a top-rated Bills O battling a tough, top rated Cincinnati D, while a mediocre Cincinnati offense (24th in the league in points scored) tests out a mid-level Bills defense.

On paper, we should win a lower-scoring game. Maybe 17 to 9 or something like that.

If the Bills D doesn't come to play and the Cincy D shuts us down, they could easily surprise us.

OK, that kinda morphed into Hopeful's analysis, "Hope" there was some useful feedback for your writing in there.

Very good points there, and I wanted to use a few that you touched on but feared the story be a little lengthy.

  8. In years past I would completely agree; however, this is a different group of guys with zero ego, a hard work ethic and a HUGE chip on their shoulder. I think they come out this week with even more to prove and it has the makings of a great game.

My point exactly... because of these factors, the issue of this being a "trap-game" for them is non-existent.

  9. Alright, brother...well written & hard to argue any of your points. Stats are stats, but the only important ones to me are points for and points against. Those are, IMHO, the truest testament to ranking a teams O & D. I would have given a more relative comparison of O vs. D for each team, as well as how the D's faired against the opposing O's.

Example: For being less known than the Bills' unit, Cinci's O is not as bad as they appear. They're averaging something like 19.5 PPG against the # 4, 14 & 15 ranked Defenses (according to the PA logic above). Conversely, the Bills are averaging, as you stated, 37.7 PPG, but using the same D ranking logic, it's against the # 27, 28 & 32 (LAST) ranked D's.

To your point about Cinci's D....They're WAY overrated...flip the script on my rankings logic and they're holding the opposing offenses, ranked 16, 23 & 12 respectively, to 18 PPG. We're only giving up 6 more PPG against the 32, 6, & 2nd ranked O's. Cinci's point differential is +1 while the Bills' is +13.

Here's MY key to this game: Take the effing leash off of the D!! Call some stinkn' blitzes and get after the "Red Rifle," as if he's done anything to garner such a nick-name...I'll stick with "Ginger Pop Gun," until otherwise proven wrong.

Also, don't be afraid to stir up some controversy...Like, if Edwards doesn't get his sh*t together, he needs to get fired!! I don't care if we're winning! A professional organization should ALWAYS being looking to improve and the defensive scheme this team has been running S U C K S!

    There, I feel better!

Good points, and thanks for your input. I agree with the Edwards topic... if he doesn't get his act together and generate a pass rush somehow, someway soon... he could be out of the job.

    Nice review

The main reason buffalo will win is the Bengals can't convert third downs (2-21 last two weeks) and the Bills can.

The Bengals will slow us down, Zimmer is a great D coordinator, But Gruden can't make Dalton score 35 points, which is what they will need to have a shot

I'm glad you brought up that 3rd down conversion statistic... I intended on adding that into those "quick facts" at the bottom of the article but it slipped my mind, I knew I was missing something :wallbash:

But yea, it's a very telling stat, and when you can't convert on 3rd down your team really struggles. Us Bills fan should know this all-too-well.

  10. Its a good article and all, but you might get some grief for using the forum for promoting your blog. Try putting the link in your sig instead.

I did not know this.. thanks for the tip.

  11. the page opened fine for me. decent analysis. if you were aiming for objectivity, i think you'll have to tone down the fandom a wee bit but solid writing nonetheless.

Yea I can see how I'm coming off as overly optimistic, but I'm sold that this Bengals team is quite poor.

    Appreciate the compliments though!
