  1. Went to my first game in 1979 and my group was tailgating in the lot across from the stadium. We had hot dogs, burgers, beer, and pop for those like me that were too young to drink at the time. Tossed a football around. We weren't the only ones either, I think it has grown into an "event" over the years, but I think it started as away to get lunch and a few drinks before a 1 PM start time after getting to the stadium.

  2. Billsfans,

I am satisfied enough with Tyrod that I don't think we need to waste a first on a QB. Cook is showing he is not going to live up to a 1st Round pick.

I say it's time to revamp the D. Since Rex is getting his shot, the only thing we can do is find his guys and roll with it.

If the axe falls on the D again then Pegs has no choice but to give Rex the boot (personally I wish it happened this year)

But to me there is no QB worth the trouble of wasting a #1 on.

    My draft goes

    #1 LB or DE (BPA)

    #2 DE or LB (BPA)

    #3 WR

    #4 OT

    #5 DE

    #6 CB

    #7 WR

I don't watch college football so I have no specific opinion on any guy. My only issue with your needs in the rounds is that I think a QB should be drafted every year. If you have a franchise guy then wait until the later rounds, maybe you find a Brady, if you need a guy or may need a guy like us, then you get one in rounds 2-4, maybe you get an Andy Dalton. The position is too important in today's game to not get one each year. That is especially true if we are getting rid of EJ as most suspect.

  3. Every season is different, especially with new coaches and the way free agency changes things. I understand how the growing skepticism has grown over the last 15 years, but this board has gotten nearly unbeatable with the we suck and should we sign this teams cast offs all of the time. There are still a few on here who do a good analysis of what they see. The above post about TT is a perfect example. The kid has 8 starts in the NFL and people want to run him out of town, he has shown flashes and isn't as mistake prone as EJ so give him a chance. Heck how many times has it been said to give us an average QB and we could be in the playoffs? TT can be that but needs a little more experience, which shows, the only question is whether he can learn and progress or not.

  4. I have been going to games since 1979 and the lower bowl has always stood. Sometime in the 2000's they tried to enforce the 'sit except during exciting plays or downs' and it has failed. Just saying I think the entire premise of your question is false, people have been standing as long as I can remember so saying it is a new thing doesn't hold water. I think the "sit" movement started because of people who physically can't stand that long complaining. I see their point but I do not know what can be truly done to stop it.

  5. Thank you both for your service greatly appreciated.

You will both have to get to Hammer's for a tailgate party.

That's an order. I will forgive you for not sending the wine

I am at Hammer's lot for every home opener when the Navy hasn't kept me away. (Back corner by the pine trees) This year I just hope it isn't week one as my wife and I are taking a trip to celebrate my retirement!

  6. Hi everyone, I'm a long time follower of Two Bills Drive and a Bills fan since 1981. I waited till the off season to say hello so as not to interfere with the regular season news stream.

I left western NY (Rochester / Webster ) in 1989 to go to college and then joined the US Army and sadly haven't been back home since then. However, the members of this site have done a great job of keeping my heart close to home - thank you! Other than being a back-up on my high school football team at RL Thomas - I have no special insight to the game or the team - so don't expect anything fancy from me. I'm now serving in Seoul, South Korea - still with the US Army - and if there are any other fans near by (I seriously doubt it) please be sure to say hi.

Anyway, I wanted to finally introduce myself and I'm hoping to make a positive contribution to this page whenever I can.

Have a great day and best wishes to my neighbors at heart in Western New York!

    Go Bills!

I have spent 30 football seasons in the Navy, that ends this Labor Day Weekend, so I know exactly what you mean! Congrats on your first post and welcome!

  7. Bring back the Red Helmets! Since their is a topic blaming the move to SJF for training camp on the playoff drought it's just as logical to blame the color of the helmets.

    BTW... At least bring them back as throw back uniform instead of the standing Buffalo that seems to lose most of the time. Ut oh superstition strikes again. :}

They cannot use red as the throwback, new NFL rule a couple of years ago that they have to use the same helmet through th eyear, can only change decals, for concussion and fit purposes

  8. Bring me Rex Ryan. He's funny, and the players love him. And I think he can coach.

He took the Jets to 2 AFC Championship games with the Sanchize, then the GM (Idzik?) throttled down the offensive talent even more, I think he can coach but was dealt a crappy hand in NY, at least Doug appears to be trying to get better... Not sure how he would do in Buffalo, but I wouldn't be upset with him as coach, but I would prefer an offensive guy and keep Schwartz if possible.

  9. In regards top the EJ stuff, being an older guy I remember the days when a QB was drafted to sit behind the veteran and learn, it worked much better than the "win now, start now" that has invaded the NFL in the last 2 decades. I think EJ sitting behind a veteran for the year could really pay off. I don't think he will ever be Manning or Brady, but he has the tools to maybe be like a Wilson. Natural athletic ability isn't everything, but it is a big help. Maybe his mind works a quarter second slower than the top guys and learning how to prepare, recognize, and operate could overcome that. I don't know for sure not being in the building. His accuracy, which was suspect coming out of FSU, is my biggest concern and don't know if it can be fixed.

As far as Marrone I have seen many posts on here about him, I have see every coach make foolish game time decisions, Marrone is no different any other coach, even the great Belicheck (sp?) does it going for 4th down against Indy at his own 20).

Hacket I don't know if it the play calling or the execution.

  10. Regarding the spike, I've wondered before if it could be considered intentional grounding depending on he formation. For example, if there's a tight end on the line or a running back in the backfield it's not IG because those players are considered eligible receivers in the area, but in a five wideout set could it be called IG?

The QB has to be under center for it not to be intentional grounding, it is also supposed to be immediatly spiked straight down, if these two items are met it is a clock stopping play, all others would be intentional grounding.
  11. I keep telling my friends that area ready to throw EJ away that all I have ever heard is you have to wait 30 games to judge a QB, he may not be the answer but he had good and bad games last year. That is expected for a rookie, all I want is progress this year, if there is some of that and a couple of bounces that go our way the playoffs are a possibility.

  12. If you paid money to attend a preseason game, and before it even starts, while the high school drum corps is playing on the field, you say you "can't wait to see EJ throw his first pick"?

The Bills are not your problem.

If you can't be bothered to stand up and cheer, when your team, the Buffalo Bills, take their home field for the first time this season?

The Bills are not your problem.

If you start calling out pass patterns you "know" they are going to run, EJ throws a pick, and you declare yourself "right", and self-congratulate....before realizing that Chandler fell down on a timing pattern, that the ball was thrown exactly where it should have been, and the pattern you "called" isn't even close to being right? (ahem, yes, I'm talking to you, Mr. Y-stick )

The Bills are not your problem.

If you are so gullible/affected that I can show you a box score from 4 years ago , that shows the Bills throwing for 10 first downs  in the 1st Qtr, and believe me? (my expert trolling ability aside)

You have a WGR-->nonsense analytics affectation disorder, and, the Bills are not your problem. You believed me because: "data". My "experiment" shows 1 obvious result: You have become a Pavlovian tool that will believe anything on the internet, especially if it has "analytics" or "data" on the page.

But, I don't blame you. There is entirely too much amateur analytics going on in sports today. They know not what they do. They are exactly like children messing about with loaded weapons. Those of us who have been doing this job for years? We do this job for real, but we do it every day. Refuting these amatuerish "analytics conclusions" is a full time job. I have posted when I've had time, and when the "conclusion" (such as "road wins against playoff teams") was egregious. But I can't chase down the entire internet's amatuer "master statisticians".

The Bills are not their problem, or your problem.

If 5 minutes before half time, you say "you can't wait to hear the rain of boos coming down from the stadium"?

Why in the Sam hell would you buy season tickets to something you hate so much? Not only are the Bills not your problem, you're an unmitigated moron. I hear the PGA is looking for fans. Perhaps it's time to admit that your too old for this stuff? When all I can distill from your moronic utterances is the equivalent of "Get off my lawn"?

It's time to hang it up. Don't worry, as a fan base, we'll be just fine without your "I knew football in 1985", sorry ass.

In closing: things are changing. I know change is difficult. I should know, as I have been bringing change to organizations for quite a few years. Thus, I know that a choice confronts you:delude yourself into believing that this is the team you've seen for the last 10 years, or, embrace the change that is obvious to any objective observer. Only you can make that choice.

All I can do? Tell you something I hope is insightful: I made a bet with another Bills fan in my family. I would do 10 pushups for every 3 WR/bubble/pick(3 WR close to each other on one side of the field) formations the Bills ran in the preaseason(and I was right: the one time the did it, they ran the ball the other way out of it!). He has to do 1 pushup for every time they do it in the regular season.

I've done my ten pushups, because they did it 1(one) time, last game. I WILL collect on his 100+ pushups this year.

And, if you don't understand that bet?

The Bills are not your problem.

+1, and well said, I have no inside info, I just don't think you can judge offenses or defenses in preseason, the individual players, if you know the play call yes

  13. There are several Bills players that deserve consideration, I think the only one that truly deserves it to get in is Steve Tasker, for the same reasons Ray Guy got in. He won't, until possibly by the senior committee, but he deserves it. I do like the idea of a separate contributor category, so coaches and the like don't take away from the deserving players getting in.

  14. The "Mistake by the Lake" in 1984 the 1-9 Browns visit the 0-10 Bills. Mistake buy the Lake was on all of the bags that were sold outside the stadium to wear over their heads, the next week we beat the Big Bad Couwboys, in what Tony Dorsett called their most embarassing loss ever.
