  1. 12/12/2010:  Buffalo 13, Browns 6

The first time I could afford to go out to a Bills game as a lifelong Bills fan.  We checked out Bar Bill, Niagara Falls and the Anchor Bar while in the area (I know, cliche, but had to do it).  Game day it was pretty miserable (about 32 degrees but raining) and we had no idea what we were doing tailgating.  Fortunately we came across some season ticket holders who had a easy-up who showed us how to have a good time and swapped food and booze.  We ended up sitting in their area instead of front row end zone just for the commraderie and had a blast.  It was one of the best weekends of my life.  Now I make it to a game every year.

I agree.  Cousins and a 1st round QB is an either/or situation.  Paying Cousins elite money and then missing an opportunity to draft him some help in the first round would be a disastrous move.

Conversely, you would want to help a rookie QB with as many FA dollars as possible, so tying up money in Cousins while drafting a 1st round QB also wouldn't make sense.

If we do get someone like Cousins and he becomes a bust, then you have to start over 2 years down the line anyway.  Shore things up.  I am not saying it would be anything close, but:  Montana and Young, Favre and Rodgers.  Start worrying about the now and the future at the same time.  See what happens.  The Pats* haven't spent first round picks, but they have drafted better quarterbacks than the Bills recently.

Imagine having to trade away a high quality backup QB who has shown that they can start and win games just because your starting QB is so good you can't afford both.  What a world that must be.

  3. I guess I am just at the point where I think you have to load up.  If someone like Cousins works out, awesome, you can trade the backup for another pick later.  If not, you have another chance at getting the most important position right for a longer time than four years.  I want the team to draft QBs until they get it right.  If they can get the one without using a first round pick, I am fine with that too.  Heck, trade back into the first with our seconds.

    2 -  1s and a second to get Mayfield??

I agree.  There is something that is exciting about Mayfield, I think he could be for real.  He seems to love the game like Favre did and can make some special plays like Brees does.  I know Mayfield has had some off field issues, but I don't think he is a Johnny football type, and coach would take care of that.

...gotta say, I would probably be okay with him planting a Bills flag on Foxboro's 50 yard line after a win there.  Though the league might feel differently.

  5. Thursday is my anniversary. I told my wife who is 3 months pregnant with #2 that I was going to skip the draft party this year. She asked why, I said it falls on our anniversary. She said she didn't want to go anywhere or do anything and that I should go.....as I sat there stunned, I muttered , "meh i don't really care to go anyway"

I think this is a trap of epic proportions. What should I do TDB.....and yes advice is needed for once....

You must be with the wife or you could hear about it for years to come. Not worth the risk.

  6. Agreed just because the w.r class is deep doesn't mean its deep with number one wideouts. 4-3 outside backers aren't as valuable of a position so we will be able to get good value elsewhere.

I would take a Ray Lewis, Zach Thomas or a Brian Urlacher over a Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, or Andre Johnson type player any day of the week, but I am a defense first kind of fan.

  7. Great Post :) To anyone that's negative about this or says it's too much money, get over it! They are putting their Cap space to good use and trying to put this team on top... if you're not excited about what happened today, then you're not a true Bills fan...

...and keep in mind that teams must use 89% of their cap space starting 2013, we had to spend to get there, it might as well be a proven player at a position we needed.

  8. I feel like the team would have been much better if not for all of the injuries. More than anything else next year, the team needs to find a way to stay healthy. A healthy Williams and Dareus at the same time would provide a great improvement. Wood getting hurt threw the offense into chaos.

The Bills need to go out and get the best strength and conditioning coach money can buy so the decent players have a shot to make it through the season.
