  1. Now that the Bills have hired former Jets assistant Mike Pettine as their defensive coordinator, many fans have wondered how they are going to utilize their current defensive personnel, which is currently tapered to play a 4-3 style of defense. Pettine, a student of Jets head coach Rex Ryan, spent seven years as an assistant with the Baltimore Ravens, and the last four as defensive coordinator of the Jets. There has been some debate over who actually called the defensive plays in New Jersey, so I can only go off of the fact that Pettine stated that they shared that responsibility depending on the game situation. In terms of which defense the Bills are going to play next season, I don’t have an answer to that. Mike Pettine is the defensive coordinator. I’m just a guy. But I can give a background on him, the defenses he has used, and what that could all mean.

  2. Since it’s been a few weeks since I analyzed the Buffalo Bills’ 1997 NFL Draft, here’s a link to my original post, where I explain (in painstaking detail) the format of this project. However, the format is quite simple, so I don’t believe any prerequisite reading will be necessary to follow along. Today, I will be grading and analyzing one of the largest blunders in recent Bills history: the entire 1998 NFL Draft. But before I do my best Todd McShay impression, here’s what you need to know going into that draft…

    The 1998 Offseason

The Buffalo Bills’ 1997 campaign was a season of transition and change. A ‘transition season’ can often signify different outcomes and expectations, but rarely is the outcome a winning season. This was no different. The Bills went 6-10 in 1997, finishing 28th in point differential while losing six of their final seven games. The talent needed to replace the production of fading or retired future (Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith) and should-be-future (Andre Reed and Steve Tasker) Hall of Famers simply was not present on the 1997 iteration of the squad. No matter which way you sliced it, this was a team that seemed to be heading even further into the basement.

Discuss here what you guys think of the 1988 draft.

  3. The Bros are back, and are giving you weekly draft coverage as it pertains to the Bills.

We hope you like it. Any players or positions you want us to cover, please leave here.

The Bros are back! They are so back. And theyre here to talk about the draft. Jason, Sniper, and Blake the Blizzard start by discussing first round possibilities like Michael Floyd, Luke Kuechly, Riley Reiff, and several others. They also delve a little further into the draft with second and third rounders and also their personal dark horses. A lot can change leading up to the draft, but the Bros are here to keep you up to date (or at least the week) with what you need to know about the draft.
  4. He's pretty much exactly what Nix said he wants in a DE. I would be so happy if we could pick him up. But PFt says "Wimbley would be a highly valued commodity around the NFL and can expect a first-year payment from his next team that dwarfs the $11 million Oakland would have paid him." I though Mario would be getting 13-14? How expensive is it going to be to sign a good DE?

Maybe if he played DE. He has played LB every year of his career.

Including 4-3 SLB for the last 2 years after being a JLB in the 3-4.

We would sign him still I think. But as a SLB!!

    Barnett Sheppard Wimbley.

At least be knowledge about the players you think you want.

  5. Wasting no time after locking down Steve Johnson to a 5 year 36.25 mil deal, the Bills are reported to be pursuing Vincent Jackson, which is something Sniper was hot on the trail of a little while back.

VJ had a nice bounce back last season after the prior year’s snafu with AJ Smith, pulling in 9 TDs on 1106 yards. But the stat that really stands out about this guy is his 18.4 YPC , which was good for 6th in the league. What’s kind of got lost in all the rabbling about Steve Johnson’s live art post td performances is what kind of a receiver he is. Steve Johnson is an decent but not special athlete who is a phenomenal route runner who consistently makes the case that Revis Island is really should be considered more of a cape. But what he isn’t particularly good at is testing defenses deep down the field. If you remember when the offense started sputtering last year, you know that it was when Rex Ryan figured out you didn’t need to play cover-2 and could completely neutralize the defense by punking receivers at the line.

Smash it here for the rest.

  6. The Buffalo Bills organization is flirting too close to their poor characteristics of the past. It’s been a constant trend for the Bills; not retaining their talented free-agents, ultimately leaving the franchise with more holes to fill. This is unacceptable, especially for a team that’s been in the “rebuilding-phase” for over 10 years. There’s a limited amount of draft picks that can be used to fill your team’s voids and none of them are “sure-bets”. Head Coach Chan Gailey, and General Manager Buddy Nix are supposedly serious about bringing another winning franchise to Buffalo again. Well fellas, lets see it.
