  1. Those NFL prognosticators you speak of are well aware of the offseason moves by the Bills.

But unlike hardcore Bills fans, they tend not to see the world through red and blue colored glasses.

The Bills have sucked for more than a decade. Most impartial observers would tend to believe it will take more than 1 or 2 good offseasons to contend in a conference that contains the mighty Pats*.

    That's why they have doubt.

Its funny how those same prognosticators often point out how well the Pats drafted this year, When in reality the Pats O-line which couldn't contain the Giants pass rush must now over come the loss of their starting LT.

  2. any thoughts

    could it be

    kelsey williams darius carrington

    merriaman sheppard barnett

looks like dwan edwards might be out of a job

this might be a good thing for moats and bannon.

with troupe and spencer johnson they are very deep at tackle

If the first round pick is coples then carrington becomes the top back up

In the end it was a smart move, when you are starring at williams and daruis they should be the focal part of your d. Plus I agree with Chan's points in regards to finding 4/3 players is easier .

i agree somewhat. Once healthy likely starters -FA and draft

  3. Considering the dollars generated by their TV deals it makes no sense to black games out. In fact that reduces potential ratings, which the networks are paying for.

It's good to see the FCC is looking to end all blackouts. Sabres games are currently blacked out from the NHL Center Ice package in the Buffalo area even though MSG is not on Time Warner cable now. They won't show you games you are paying a premium for.

    PTR

Sabres games are no longer on NHL Center Ice because MSG holds the broadcast rights and will not allow TWC to show Sabres games until TWC agrees to a 56% rate increase.

  4. They are actually discussing football? Even with all the good movies that care coming out? I'm slightly impressed that sports talk radio in buffalo is actually talking about sports. I refuse to call or listen to wgr until they are fired, or actually start earning there pay checks.

    Go Bills, Awesome game :)

  5. I don't have a problem with Gailey's remarks at all. A head coach should expect to win every game. To say otherwise show's a total lack of confidence in your own coaching ability, and also a complete lack of faith in your team. I stopped listening to WGR years ago, and I'm not surprised to hear the idiots are bashing Gailey. Schopp and Bulldog must have been expecting Chan to step up to the podium and say, "were forfeiting all 16 games this year", so that they, along with all the other @ssclowns who want to lose this year could hold hands and rejoice at being 0-16 and draft Luck. Under that scenario they would probably thank Chan for his hard work and dedication and move on to important things like favorite actor/movie/soap-opera/appliances drafts!

    19-0 go bills!!!

    bills 24 kc 10 :)

  6. We finished #2 in defense twice in a row after Greggo left.

and to say we have no plan in place after spending #3 overall pick on a DT; 2nd & 3rds on d linemen & ILB; and signing a good FA d linemen last year is just stupid. Now, the players need to produce.

And how many playoff games did we win since changing to the 4-3 front? What the op should say is what did the change to the 4-3 get us.

  7. The comparisons people are making to Bradford are incredible. The consistency of accuracy isn't even close.

Bradford completed over 67% of his throws on 3rd down, Gabbert 44%.

    Bradford threw twice as many TD's in 2008 than Gabbert did in his best year, more than 3X than Gabbert did last year;

    In Bradford's freshman year, he threw a third more TD's than Gabbert did in his best year;

Bradford was first or second in the nation in passer rating, Gabbert was 5th or 6th in the Big 12.

When you watched them play, Bradford rarely threw a bad pass, it was on time, it was on the money, you didn't have receivers sitting around waiting, coming back to the ball, or diving. A guy with that type of accuracy doesn't come along every year. Its a gift. Its like watching a baseball pitcher nail the corner of the plate consistently. You sit back and say, "how the hell is this guy doing this?"

I can't say the same about Gabbert. Watch the Nebraska game sometime and see how many passes he missed. Even the Oklahoma game, which was actually a good game for him. He gets jittery and throws errant passes. That was REALLY apparent in the Nebraska game when they put pressure on him. He'll see a lot of that on Sundays. People act like he tore up the Big 12, when he was in fact, very average in a very pass happy conference.

I dunno, I have a hard time taking a QB at No. 3, who's best year in college, in the Big 12 no less, had one more TD pass, in the NFL, than the guy you want him to replace. If his ceiling is as high as people think it is, he certainly hasn't shown it to date.

You take a guy like that, you end up playing him early, and then you will start hearing the excuses. "Oh, he doesn't have the WR's, he doesn't have the line, he doesn't have the running game, we're running the wrong scheme for him".

We went through 3 years of this with Edwards. I really don't want to go through that again. Not with Gabbert at least.

There were also concerns with Bradford when he was drafted due to his shoulder injury, his durability and toughness were questioned as well as his inability to escape a big hit.

  8. There is a list a mile long of QB's who were considered by the masses to be the top QB prospect that year yet chose to go back to school for one more year and see their draft stock fall when they entered the draft the following year. So, just because Luck is highly touted now does not mean come draft time next year he is still going to be as highly touted as he is now. Here are a few notables, including one on our roster and one in this draft.

Matt Leinart - would have been first QB taken and likely top pick in the draft...ended up falling when he entered draft and saw VY chosen ahead of him.

Brian Brohm - would have been top 5, if not 1st overall, and certainly first QB off the board...fell to 2nd round the following year and was 3rd QB.

Jack Locker - Certain top 10 pick, maybe #1 overall, and most thought he would have been top QB last year on the board...will be no higher than 3rd QB taken, maybe even 6th or 7th QB off the board.

So, I know there is all this Luck hoopla, but no one knows how his season is going to go or if we will get hurt or not. So even if we do wind up with a pick high enough to get Luck next year, there is no certainty he will even be considered to go that high any more and present any kind of issue for us. Not to mention, it puts us in a great trading position which is what could really help this team in that scenario if Luck is still the top prospect.

I agree, last year Locker and Ponder were both projected to go high if they declared for the draft they didn't...This time next year it will be interesting to see where Luck falls...asking him to repeat last years performance with a new HC, and to remain healthy for the entire season without hurting his chances of going 1st over all next year is highly unlikely. I don't understand the logic of wanting to go 0-16 this season just to guarantee we get luck next year.

  9. I totally see what you are saying but before the bills start worrying about depth, they should first try to get competitive at most positions.. Just an opinion, obviously pobody's nerfect, or write on these matters:)

Getting competitive at most positions requires getting talented players to improve depth at each position, to either push the veteran above them on the depth chart or earn the opportunity to start.

  10. I am not compareing Luck to locker but I remember Locker was talked about going #1 last years draft... then look what happened... Noone knows what will happen in next year's draft. Going 0-16 is never a good thing.

  11. Title says it all, folks.....flame away!

We should stick with the 3/4. We haven't had success under the 4/3, i wasn't happy with Donahoe's decision to switch to the 4/3 to begin with given our success rate under dc's Walt Corey, Wade Phillips, and Ted Cotrell and personnel at the time. Buddy should stick with the 3/4. Darius in the first, Phil Taylor in the second our starting line would be LE Williams - NT Taylor - RE Darius

  12. The draft i like best w/o trade down

1)3 Buffalo Marcell Dareus DE Alabama

2)34 Buffalo Phil Taylor DT Baylor

    3)68 Marcus Gilbert OT Florida

    4)99 John Moffit OG Wisconsin

    4)121 Kelvin Sheppard Ilb LSU

5)130 Chris White ILB Mississippi St.

    6)164 Wayne Daniels OLB TCU

    7)195 Marcus Gilchrist FS/CB/KR Clemson

  13. Never? What if there are no LT, QB or RDE who are impact players and worthy of a top 5 pick. Just because those are

the premier positions doesn't mean premier talent will always be available at those positions. Who is picked should

depend on potential impact. If that's a safety so be it. Eric Berry did very well this past season.

Yes Eric Berry did well this season. Since you brought his selection at 5 by the Chiefs up, you do realize the Chiefs could of had Russell Okung at 5 and waited till the second and taken T.J Ward who the Browns drafted and moved to SS, Ward leads all rookie SS in tackles with 123, 1ff, 2int. I believe drafting a SS that high is ridiculous, they usually line up about 10 yards from the LOS, and their impact can be minimized with a good game plan. Good teams/Gm's build from the LOS out. Top ten picks shouldn't be squandered on db's, wr's or te. Picking that high normally means you have a more glaring need elsewhere.
