  1. Comment here....

    Great pick.

probably an ok pick based on need but I would have preferred J. Meredith.

    S. Nelson -

    Strengths:

Good height with a rangy build and long arms...Frame has room to add weight...A fantastic athlete...Good speed and quickness...Vertical threat who can stretch the field...Gets good separation...Excellent hands...Nice ball skills and body control...Can create after the catch...Tough...Technically sound and gives good effort as a blocker...Has a lot of experience...Very productive... Good bloodlines.

    Weaknesses:

Needs to bulk up but has trouble maintaining weight...Is not very strong...Not a dominant in-line blocker and can be physically overwhelmed...A relatively average route runner...May have some minor durability concerns...Probably won't be a good fit for everyone.

    Notes:

Cousin of former L.S.U. and current Kansas City Chiefs DT Glenn Dorsey...A four-year starter...Finished his college career ranked in the Golden Eagles Top 5 in career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns...Saved the best for last and had a terrific senior campaign...Somewhat of a one-dimensional pass catcher who in many ways is a wide receiver in a tight ends body...Awfully similar to Martin Rucker of the Cleveland Browns (4th Round Pick in '08) , only better.

  2. Let's see who is the "smartest" Bills Fan for ultimate bragging rights. Who will be the Bills first, second & third picks in this years draft (not who you want, but who you think the Bills will actually select). Which may or may not be the 11th, 28th & 42nd picks depending on trades etc....

with my first selection, i'm picking Brandon Pettigrew Tight End......and just to spice things up, i'm predicting not at #11, but at #13 in a trade with Washington. With the #28 pick, i'm selecting Max Unger Offensive Line. With the #42 pick i'm selecting Larry English, DE.

PRIZE-- The WINNER must receive a post from all other participants saying something complimentary about the winner .....value = PRICELESS !! ( god i hope it's not SKOOBY....lol) all in good fun !!

    GOOD LUCK TOO ALL !!

EDIT: in the unlikely event of a tie....the first person to post with the correct picks is the winner.

    here ya go:

    Round Pick # Player

Round 1 11 Tyson Jackson (LSU)

    Round 1 28 Connor Barwin

Round 2 42 Eben Britton (Ariz)

  3. If they pass up pettigrew at 28 I will be so pissed. And if they take maybin instead of Orakpo that would be a huge mistake. I would like to see the bills trade down unless an elite d-line player falls to eleven. And I only see Orakpo and Raji as those types of players along the d-line.

And if they really want Britton I think he could be had in a trade up with their second using their two fourths or the third

I am with you '89 .... I am on record as against taking a TE at 11. But if BP falls to 28 then we must take him. He will not last until 41, that is for sure ....

  4. I'm not impressed with the starting QB or RB for the Bills. Edwards lacks arm strength and Lynch runs into traffic too much and he can't seem to break tackles as well as advertised.

Taking the USC QB Sanchez wouldn't be too bad and I'm thinking the Kansas State QB Josh Freeman wouldn't be so bad either.

I'm not that impressed with the crop of running backs but I'm sure the Bills can find and effective runner. I'd take Moreno even though he seems a smallish 217.

Wells is heavy at 235 put he's worth a look.

QB is not in picture until day 2.

As for RB they are a dime a dozen. The league is full of serviceable RB's; the FB life expectancy is short and all teams utilize more than one back. We are fine with Lynch-Jackson_Rhode-Oman stable.

  5. cant say who cuz they might loose there job but someone close to the top said we our going with orokpo or raji or maybe sanchez if there gone!

To me this is of little value. I say that every year I can be almost 80-90% right on first 10 draft picks of any draft (maybe not exact order but who's off the board). My point is I do not not do this drafting job for a living and neither does any one else on this board and my top 10 success rate is pretty high. It's fairly easy to predict we take a Raji at 11 when everyone has him as a top 10 selection ....

  6. I agree, to an extent. The Bills' aren't so much lacking in talent as they are lacking in difference-makers. I wouldn't restrict that just to skill position players as you have, but the Bills desperately need this 11th overall pick to develop into a player who can take over a game. I'd prefer that they find a DE, OLB or DT who fits that description, but I am not at all averse to picking a WR, CB, or whatever, if they can bring big play ability to the table.

I doubt it happens at 11, though. If they take a flyer on a supposed non-need position, it'll probably happen at 28, especially if the Bills are satisfied with their OTs and essentially view it as a free 1st round pick.

I maintain that early picks concentrate on athletic playmakers - speed at the edges so DE (Jackson/Orakpo?) and OLB (Mathews/Cushing?) fits here ... just who is the problem. Later rounds OT's (Vollmer?) and maybe even a TE (Coffman?) can be had. The draft is a dangerous games as it amounts to one big poker table of 32 players ....

  7. I think the bills select Brian Cushing with their first pick.

The Bills have lacked an identity for quite a while now. If I am game planning against them whom do I have to stop? By that I mean what player on the Bills do you have to account for at all times? (Think Bruce Smth, Thurman Thomas back in the day. Think Julius Peppers, Shawn Merriman, Adrian Peterson today.) I think we all knoew the answer here. So now the question is this: Is there a game changer in the draft today? Who knows ....

Round Pick # Player Pos Ht Wt

    Round 1 11 Tyson Jackson (LSU) DE 6'4" 296

alternate Robert Ayers (Tenn) DE 6'3" 273

    Round 1 28 Connor Barwin DE 6'3" 253

alternate Brian Cushing (USC) OLB 6'3" 243

    Round 2 42 Eben Britton (Ariz) OT 6'6" 310

    alternate Alex Mack (Cal) C 6'4" 309

    Round 3 75 A. Q. Shipley (PSU) C 6'1" 304

alternate Jamon Meredith (So. Carolina) OT 6'5" 305

    Round 4 110 Tony Flammatta (Syracuse) FB 6'0" 245

    Round 4 121 Sebastian Vollmer (Houston) OT 6'8" 312

Round 5 147 Brandon Hughes (Oregon St) CB 5'11 182

    Round 6 183 Tommy Breaux (Towson) WR 6'7" 205

    Round 7 220 Jack Simmons (Minnesota) TE 6'5" 255

  8. Let's try to think logically (for the people saying we should take Pettigrew with the 11th pick) I know top priority on my offseason wish list was a tight end who caught ZERO touchdown passes on a pass oriented offense.

What we should do is take the best playmaking most athletic DE with #11. Which in my opinion is Everette Brown.

With our 28th we should take the best avalible OLB (do u really want Ellison to start again next year?) I think atleast one of the projected top 25 will drop.

Our Second round pick should be the Best avalible Center, so we can move Hangartner to Gaurd. Our STARTING O-line would be Chambers, Hangartner, 2nd Round Center, Butler, Walker Line=Formidable. Decent Depth

And lastly our third round pick should be a pass catching tight end preferably Ingram from FLA.

I think this is the best way to approach the draft. However our front office is bound to do the unexpected. Go head and Fire away!

    Here's what I see with a de-emphasis in TE:

Round Pick # Player Pos Ht Wt

    Round 1 11 Tyson Jackson (LSU) DE 6'4" 296

alternate Robert Ayers (Tenn) DE 6'3" 273

    Round 1 28 Clay Mattews (USC) OLB 6'3" 240

alternate Brian Cushing (USC) OLB 6'3" 243

    Round 2 42 Eben Britton (Ariz) OT 6'6" 310

    alternate Alex Mack (Cal) C 6'4" 309

    Round 3 75 A. Q. Shipley (PSU) C 6'1" 304

alternate Jamon Meredith (So. Carolina) OT 6'5" 305

    Round 4 110 Tony Flammatta (Syracuse) FB 6'0" 245

    Round 4 121 Sebastian Vollmer (Houston) OT 6'8" 312

Round 5 147 Brandon Hughes (Oregon St) CB 5'11 182

    Round 6 183 Tommy Breaux (Towson) WR 6'7" 205

    Round 7 220 Jack Simmons (Minnesota) TE 6'5" 255

  9. I disagree CH. If a players is excels, he is worth a first round pick. I'll bet that almost every team in football wishes that they used a first round pick on Gates.

Lots of first round TEs work out pretty well.

I am sure there are plenty but as for Gates let's keep him out of discussion because everyone whiffed ... which is why the draft is a crap shoot (and probably so much fun).

Anyway, the core question is do you spend an 11 on Pettigrew knowing who else may be on the board for a team with multiple needs ... fill in the blank (OT's, OLB's in particular). In the end, I say NO to BP & go on to 2-3 pick and see what happens (Cook, Coffman?)

  10. Dallas Clark, Tony Gonzalez, Jeremy Shockey, Heath Miller, Ben Watson, Vernon Davis, Kellen Winslow Jr., just to name a few more recent.

Shockey, Winslow, Davis were probably not worth it. Certainly TG is without debate; Miller has been very good; ditto for Wwatson but Clark may be product of a system. Not sure if they are all #1's but I know there are several TE's (Jets come to mind) that have busted with this approach of drafting a TE with a high draft pick.

  11. I am going to be sick to my stomach if we bring in pettigrew as our numer one pick.. Yes we need a TE.. but seriously you can get a decent TE in the 4th round.. This team would be really stupid not to get everett brown or a OT with the first pick.. We need to fill our core positions and TE is not a need we need to adress first.

I could not agree more with this. The TE position is highly overrated. I challenge anyone to produce a TE draft pick that was worth a first round selection in the pass 20 years ....

  12. here's how this will shake out:

Round Pick # Player Pos Ht Wt

    Round 1 11 Tyson Jackson (LSU) DE 6'4" 296

alternate Robert Ayers (Tenn) DE 6'3" 273

    Round 1 28 Clay Mattews (USC) OLB 6'3" 240

alternate Brian Cushing (USC) OLB 6'3" 243

    Round 2 42 Eben Britton (Ariz) OT 6'6" 310

    alternate Alex Mack (Cal) C 6'4" 309

    Round 3 75 A. Q. Shipley (PSU) C 6'1" 304

alternate Jamon Meredith (So. Carolina) OT 6'5" 305

    Round 4 110 Tony Flammatta (Syracuse) FB 6'0" 245

    Round 4 121 Sebastian Vollmer (Houston) OT 6'8" 312

Round 5 147 Brandon Hughes (Oregon St) CB 5'11 182

    Round 6 183 Tommy Breaux (Towson) WR 6'7" 205

    Round 7 220 Jack Simmons (Minnesota) TE 6'5" 255

  13. Forgett Pettigrew in Rd 1 ... go w/ T. Jackson or BJ at 11 (I know BJ not likely to be available but Tackson probably will be) then best OLB available at 28 (I thinking Matthews/Cushing here?). OT can be addressed at 42 (Beatty/Britton/Duke Robinson). TE in later rounds ....

My philosophy is speed/skills in early rounds; bulk/power in later rounds .....
