  1. I referenced Mangold stopping Suh as a way to say, most likely he'll stop Dareus. His injury should be fully healed at this point. And you would probably take Suh over Dareus at this point (unbiased).

Profootballfocus.com has Marcell Dareus rated as the #3 NT/DT in the league. Suh is rated #35. So unbiased Dareus is better. Keep grasping at straws.

  2. I have been impressed with pears honestly. Urbik too. If hairstons play wasn an enomoly, I wonder if Bell finds himself as the odd man out?

Its amazing how quickly a team can turn around with the right men in charge acquiring the talent, and the right man coaching said talent.

Could you copy paste some of the other lists for us? Maybe the top 10 or something? I dont think their stuff is copyrighted so it shouldnt even be in violation of the TBD rules!

PFF is copyrighted but if you have specific players you want to know about let me know and I can look them up for you.

  3. I would not be opposed to trading down into the middle of the first round and taking Locker or Mallett and picking up an extra second/third.

I hope these scouts see that Locker is the real deal

I would be opposed to a trade down for either of these guys especially for Locker. There hasn't been one pro bowl quaterback since 2000, probably longer I didn't check past then, that had a losing record coming out of college. Locker was 16-25 at Washington.

  4. Maybe its because Chan knows he isnt very good at T. The only T that looked good in that game was Carpenter, with SHerrod being OK (Carimi sat out the game with injury). Amazing, because those two arent considered the top Ts, people brushed off their performances with comments like "Carpenter had a realy good game, which suprised me, because he is a mid round T" - Mike Mayock. Meanwhile, Cozstanzo and Solder played like poopie and get comments like "Coztanso and Solder had pretty rough days, but thats ok, because they are still 1st round picks" - Mike Mayock

Typical fitting a performance into the round you want the guy to go in. If there were honest assessments of that game neither Solder or Coztansa would get 1st round grades.

Lee Ziemba (Auburn) looked good in the Senior Bowl at RT. He could be a nice get with one of the Bills 4th round picks. He also looked good at LT in the BCS championship game against Oregon.

  5. It was HOT out and the crowd was bigger than I expected for a Tuesday afternoon. I stood by the players gate and saw quite a few players come in. I actually walked from the road to the players gate with Dante Whitner and no one else around which was kind of cool. I stationed myself at the far end of the field which was the offensive end for individual drills. I caught the interior linemen at first, then the QBs and running backs, then the receivers. I watched the QBs and RBs during the special team portion and then saw 7x7 drills. I left a bit early to beat the crowd and because my camera and cell phone died. Here are my notes for what they are worth:

    * Trent looks good. He looked real good. It was hard to say if he was really that good or if the other QBs in camp are just that bad but Trent was clearly heads and shoulders above them. They did a drill where the QB ran a play action rollout and passed on the run. Trent was spot on and had good velocity. Fitz and Brohm looked like they were floating everything. No zip at all. Brown showed some velocity but had a weird, almost side arm throwing motion on these rollout passes. Trent had a nice stretch in 7x7 where he hit Roscoe on a nice throw, David Nelson on a nice throw, hit Lynch, hit D. Nelson again, just overthrew Jackson in the corner endzone then threw a TD pass to D. Nelson.

    * Fitz looked terrible. Looked out of it all day and had no velocity on any of his throws. His highlight of the day was a one handed TD catch from Edwards while the special teams practice was going on. I do not see him on the roster if this type of play continues. In the one 7x7 drill I saw him run, he started incomplete, incomplete, bat down at the line, TD to Roscoe on a short out with no one around.

    * Wood spent a lot more time snapping the ball than practicing the guard position in individual drills. He also looked the best at doing it. His snaps were spot on and easy to handle and he got out of his stance quickly. Hangartner looked solid but not overly strong or athletic. The others looked terrible. Let's hope we do not see any of them at center. I am assuming it was Gaddis with a few others but I noted #62 as being the worst and can't find that number on the roster.

    * Lee and Roscoe were both solid for the receivers. Steve Johnson looked like a pro and the clear #2 guy. Easley was on the field joking with the guys and moving around well but obviously did not practice. Donald Jones made great plays all day and looked like a real sleeper. I noted him as my top WR of the day. Namaan also made some nice catches but did not look as fast or fluid as Jones. Hardy looked terrible for most of practice, then made some nice moves, then dropped a few in 7x7. David Nelson looked to be about the same size as him and looked much better catching, running routes and moving fluidly. On every other play a coach would stop the drill to say something to Hardy or show him how to get off the line correctly or how to run a route. I can see Hardy being cut if this is the norm. Roscoe was all over and Lee was Lee.

    * Marshawn dogged it bad through the running back stretching. He barely made an effort and never did what the coaching shouting out the drills was saying. Spiller followed directions to a T and looked enthused. Jackson did as well. Marshawn did go all out in the team drills though and made a few nice catches.

    * Playcalling looks more creative from the walk-through portion that they held. Sad that a training camp walkthrough looks more creative that last year's offense.

That's all I was able to remember or note. Hopefully I can get back out to focus on the defense. I have a ton of pictures but can't seem to find a site that will load them all.

Great report. Any idea how Antonio Coleman is looking? I heard that he was taking snaps with the second team D.

  6. BUST !!.......i am a season ticket holder. when Maybin came in the game, i watched and isolated on him on every single play. As compared to other linebackers he can NOT stop and/or change direction very well. he was single blocked and could NOT overpower anyone. all he is, is fast straight ahead. i'll be shocked if he shakes the BUST label.

Unfortunately I think you are dead on here. I also saw him take a pretty bad angle while pursuing a play last year and totally miss the ball carrier.

  7. Yes, I know, they're only playing against our anemic offense right now, but even the most pessimistic fan has to be pleasantly surprised by reports of how this D is coming together this early in camp.

Could it be that we really DO have the players and talent for the front seven in the 3-4, and one of the best secondaries in football?

Nasty defense, strong running game...these sound like the ingredients for a successful team in WNY.

I see the run D improving significantly. A big concern of mine is without Schobel who is going to get after the QB?

  8. The BILLS sprinted to the podium to take a player we couldn't afford to take. They should have traded down, took Bulaga or another 1st round OT in the teens and picked up another 3rd or 4th rounder. If we started the season with Fred, Marshawn and Bell as our running backs, had Bulaga to shore up our miserable tackle situation ands threw in an extra pick at OLB we'd be way ahead of were we are now. The only reason they took Spiller was to sell tickets as he may become the only exciting player on a boring team. Unfortunately we need a strong foundation more than fancy windows.

Bulaga at #9 would have been a reach for a RT IMHO. I wanted Brandon Graham but the FO going with Spiller and not reaching for a need shows me they are building for the future by aquiring real talent.

  9. Me. Definitely me.

I still don't like the Spiller pick, even though I like Spiller himself and look forward to seeing him as a Bill. Over the two or three days before the draft it became obvious that he was a possibility. I didn't like it.

I wanted Dan Williams, Brandon Graham, Derrick Morgan if they thought he could play ROLB, or Bulaga or a trade back and a pickup of one of the lower tier of LTs like Saffold. Or Clausen of course. And I sure wanted Clausen bad in the second round. That was the one I think might come back to haunt them.

I agree with you on Brandon Graham or a trade back for Saffold. I think both will be solid pros and I can see BG in multiple pro bowls.

I am not so sure about your assessment of Clausen though. I was very big on Clausen pre-draft but was concerned by his losing record in college 15-19. So I did a little research. By my count there have been 37 pro-bowl quarterbacks since 2000. I couldn't find one with a losing record in college. If you find one let me know.

    Some examples:

    Daunte Culpepper 25-19

    Rich Gannon 24-11

    Aaron Rodgers 17-6

    Tom Brady 20-5

I am not saying having a winning record in college guarantees you will have success in the NFL. I am saying having a losing record may guarentee you won't.

  10. Jimmy is now like 3rd in line now yet he was a shame for the Bills to pass on twice?? Hmmm....

    3. Bills pass on Jimmy Clausen, twice

Entering April's draft with the league's worst quarterback situation, the Bills had two chances to select pro-ready Jimmy Clausen. They passed both times, opting instead to bolster an already strong tailback corps with C.J. Spiller at No. 9, and taking raw nose tackle Torrell Troup 41st.

New coach Chan Gailey plans to hold a three-way QB competition in camp consisting of injury-prone Trent Edwards, draft bust Brian Brohm, and noodle-armed journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick.

IMO passing on Clausen was a good move. Since 2000 by my count there were 37 quaterbacks elected to the pro bowl. I couldn't find one that had a losing record in college. JC's record was 15-19.

  11. Where does one find info on who is signed and who hasn't for all teams? Seems like a lack of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round info. My google attempts came up short.

Shouldn't a batch of signings start soon?

And if CJ Spiller holds out, it may be more due to those above him and below him not signing. Once the others begin to sign, the slotted nature of signings and for the size of the contract, is pretty much established.

I hate hold outs. We need him in on time to get ready...

Here is a good one I use
