  1. With Buddy in charge I am very pessimistic on the future of the bills. We are keeping an incompetent def coordinator and likely losing Whitner and Poz. Our defense will again be in the bottom of the league. We will keep Kelsay and Kyle Williams, but play them out of there natural positions. I expect another mediocre draft and no impact free agent signings. The good news is we may be picking high enough to get Luck and hopefully Buddy will get fired and a competent GM will be brought in.

Why in the world would you want to keep Poz ??? He isn't a starting LB on any team in the NFL.

  2. If there's anybody on this team I think we need to lock up and keep around, it's this guy. I'd take away Kelsay's contract and give it to him in a second. The bottom line is, we don't need another hole to fill in the offseason. Poz and Davis are the only starter-worthy linebackers we have on the team. I hope they're working on something right now.

The Bills can get rid of every LB on the team. They don't have one good one among the whole team . Poz is not worth keeping around!!!! LB is the weakest part of the defense and it shows week in and week out. Poz can't cover anyone, he can't shed blocks, and if he does make a tackle it is 10 to 15 yards down the field.

  3. Maybin has been, by all accounts, invisible thus far on the Buffalo Bills. But I think a lot of people (scouts, coaches) knew this was the case when he entered the draft. I question why we would have made this pick in the draft since we had supposedly already gone through rebuilding with Jauron and Levy. But that is in the past and we can't change it.

Here are the most important quotes I took from what scouts said about Maybin:

    1. "Maybin came out of high school weighing only 220 pounds, but has already added 26 pounds of muscle. He has the frame to add more bulk without losing any speed, which is something NFL scouts will be looking at."

    2. "Maybin took full advantage of his starting role this season, having tallied 49 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and even breaking up 3 passes in coverage."

    3. "Maybin will likely be one of the top defensive end taken this spring, but NFL teams will likely have to wait for him to develop. He can help a team as a third down pass rush specialist in the beginning, but if he reaches his potential he could be a future NFL sacks leader."

You don't waste 1st round picks on project players! These days your 1st rounders should be fighting for starting positions or even starting, not waiting to see what they do 3 or 4 years from now.

Hold off on the criticism. I actually think he could be used more effectively than he is RIGHT NOW, and Edwards isn't putting him in those situations. And I also think he needs to add some bulk to his frame in order to not get pushed around by larger tackles. It would be very foolish to trade away / cut last years 1st rounder just yet. Be patient.

  4. Told you he'd never go for anything less than a 4th.

What a terrible trade. One old man RB and one RB that can't touch it more than 10 times a game.

I hope we use our new 4th round pick to draft a running back!

Who was going to give up anything better than that for a RB who is one strike away from being suspended for an entire season? Two picks for a player who would be gone for nothing after this season!

  5. Mort would sound more believable if he'd quit bringing up TD. TD started out ok, but then became paranoid, that began his downfall. Everyone keeps pointing the finger at Ralph for al lthe problems. Maybe it really isn't him making the bad decisions, but has been Littman and Overdolf. Granted RW has hired them, but would be interesting to know if that is where the problem really is.

The problem with TD was that he didn't want to hire a HC that could possibly become more popular and powerful than he was in the organization, like what happened to him in Pittsburgh.

  6. I don't understand why there is so much negativity and pessimism about this team. We had a bad year last year. We had 20 guys on IR, including a bunch of quality starters (db's, lb's, most of the OL, qb, etc) and a first round pick who was playing out of position.

We had a coach who in perhaps the worst move in the history of the team, decided to go with a no-huddle offense that accomplished absolutely nothing. He fired the OC a week before the season and cut the LT. His strength and conditioning coach was a disaster.

    That regime is gone.

I believe that Trent Edwards can be coached back into the player we once trusted...the guy who was 4-0 two years ago, and the guy who had New England on the ropes in the opener last year. That guy is in dire need of a coach with a plan, and now he has one.

We drafted the most explosive player in quite some time, and we also got a bunch of players who will help to make the 3-4 a tough scheme to run against. We already have a great defensive backfield. Now we will have a better defense that you cannot run against.

We played just about everybody tough last year, including New England twice. We beat the Jets. Despite having all those injuries and a coach with no direction, we still managed to have some quality performances on the field.

This will be a playoff team.

Over the last ten years, what has the team done to give us any hope? It has been the same thing year in and year out. The marketing team of the Bills pumps the fans up with expectations of a competitive team only to be out of it by week 5. This is why so many people are speaking negative. If the Bills start winning then it all goes away.

  7. IF the Bills were to trade for Big Ben, an unlikely, potential problem could occur. Assuming he is out 5 games, it would mean one of the 3 headed hydra (TE, Fitz, Brohm) would have to start. One could envision a scenario where the Bills start 4-1 or 5-0 (albeit unlikely). If that were to happen, on Ben's return, you will have a serious QB controversy on your hands - Ben - a proven Superbowl winner fresh off suspension on a new team vs. a hot hand who has us winning our division. A controversy like this could be a season killer. My vote for Big Ben is no - not for this unlikely scenario or his talent, but his character is just flawed.

No way we start off 5-0 or 4-1. We will be lucky if we are 1-4 before the bye week.

  8. I know a lot of people in various places are complaining about the schedule, but I am actually fine with it. First, I personally like the 1:00 Sunday start times. Sure, night games are fun, but they usually end up with us losing in a different, head-scratching, fashion every time! Always seems like we dominate the games and then just find a way to mess them up when that should be impossible to do. So, i am fine with the early starts. And remember, if we are good through the season, there is always a chance of a flex game late, especially this year with so many divisional match-ups late.

Also, I know the first 4 games look awfully tough....and they are. However, playing our divisional games without them having tape on our new offense and new defense could actually help us a bit. I for one am thinking.....and praying.....that our offense is COMPLETELY different than what anyone has seen over the last 4 years. Hopefully, we won't be predictable in our attack and we can catch these tough division opponents before they really have a good understanding of what we are doing. Obviously the downside of this is that we will be installing a BRAND NEW system without much real prep-time against these teams. If we are not executing early, it could get ugly pretty quick. I am actually hoping that we play our starters a lot more in the preseason this year to make sure we are ready to roll opening day. Obviously, we will probably need all of the time we can get with our starters to make sure everyone is on the same page. Finally, I think if we could sneak out a couple of wins over a couple of division opponents early by some miracle, that would give this team some early season confidence that we can carry through the middle part of the season where I hope we are still in it instead of already out of it.

Our travel is not bad as well. There are stretches on the schedule where we won't see a plane for weeks at a time. We don't really have any long trips, so we will be at home as much as possible.

Finally, the division games down the stretch will be tough. Maybe 1 or 2 of them will have some things locked up, but I am not counting on that. I think this year, more than previous years, there will be more on the line in weeks 14-17.

So yeah, our schedule is fine. It is what it is. If we want to be a good team, we have to beat these teams at some point eventually.

    4-12 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. no doubt there trying to help the team with this move but it seems with moves like this they are content in going from awful to just bad. After 10 years of sheit, is that enough for you? maybe this kinda signing is the best they can do but they could at least publicly try a little harder to attract some names that even people on this board don't have to google to identify.

Well over the past 10 years they have gone after big named guys such as Bledsoe and Spikes to name a few and that hasn't gotten them anywhere close to a contender. The problem with the Bills has been that the previous front office management didn't have any clue on how to build a solid team through the draft. They were masters of marketing and making us think year in and year out we had a good chance to go somewhere. They listened too much to outside influence when making certain decisions and we see where this got them. I'm not saying this FO is anything to brag about but there certainly isn't anyone in FA that you could buid a team around and I am glad they aren't getting guys just to make us feel good until the 2nd game of the season, like in the past.

  10. the good teams have the luxury of looking at role players to add to their established nucleus and some of them wash out. no big deal if you are good to start with. It is a big deal if you're trying to rebuild with little foundation. these players haven't made the bad team they're coming from winners. are they likely to do that for the Bills? But, they might make a good team better. less likely, they make a bad team a bit better but overall: the rich get richer, the bills get poorer.

You are correct that the Bills have no foundation in place to start with but you are not going to build it through FA. You need to draft correctly, which the old management hasn't , and fill in the pieces with FA's. I don't think the Bills sign guys and overpay them just to fill spots. I think they believe they will help the team. We will not know until after next season.

  11. Wow, you guys have no clue do you?

So let me ask, does this team have ANY talent at all? Well from the whining and bitching you guys do when we lose one of our own FA's I guess we do.

Well the Bills suck, so why aren't you guys saying anything about X team getting a player from us a 'crappy team'? Oh wait, you mean that since the TEAM sucks that doesn't mean every single player on that team sucks? NO WAY!!!

'But but but....the Raiders FANS said this guy sucks'. If anyone in the world is actually listening to what any Raider fan says, you are a moron. that org is WAY worse than ours.

    Exactly the correct point.

  12. Either the new front office is more incompetent than the last FO, or Cornell Green is the only person they could get to come to Buffalo. Below is a quote from Rotoworld:

"While Buffalo is undoubtedly desperate for tackle help, the signing is curious. Green received no known interest elsewhere, turns 34 before the season, and has played a full 16-game schedule just once in his 10-year career. The Raiders were also always trying to replace Green, which isn't a good sign."

It seems that they won't even give the time of day to players that could really help this team fill their many, many holes, than they over pay for subpar, over the hill players that not a single other team in the NFL has any interest for. For anyone wondering why the Bills have sucked for a decade, signings like this are a big part of the answer.

    What do you know?

  13. This post pretty much sums up the Bills management philosophy over the last umpteen years.

Signing castoffs from perennial losers like the Lions,Raiders and Chiefs, etc. is not going to turn the Bills into a Super Bowl contender?

The people who continuously defend this organization for this horrific mismanagement deserve what they get. You can read all the various posts on this board about how the fans are so happy with the way Gailey and Nix are handling the Bills so far.

    Yikes!

It has been so long since the Bills were relevant in the league that people have forgotten (or never knew) what a quality organization looks like. Some people are under the illusion that the Bills are on the right track. It looks like to me that they are on the same track and only some of the names have changed.

It has come to the point now where ANY signing is viewed as a positive move regardless of the quality. Yikes! again.

I guess based on everyone's thinking that you can't get good players from crappy teams, the Saints were stupid for getting Greer. The Bills suck and didn't bring him back. Why get him. Why should the Pats look at Reed? He was on a crappy Bills team.

  14. Schopp was just doing a monologue on the Nix hiring and admitted that much of the anger WGR shows toward the Bills is personal. Something to do with the Bills not returning phone calls and such. He also went on to say that it's very important for the Bills to have a good relationship with the press because it would lead to better treatment.

This may be common sense but it strikes me as rather petty and cheapens what WGR is all about. Basically Schopp is saying suck up to us and we'll be nice. Cross us and we'll hammer you. I always thought, as sports journalists, their job is to report the sports news, not inject their bruised egos into what they do.

    PTR

Negative news get higher ratings than positive. Just look at all the negative news stories on every news cast. As for it being personal, not very professional.

  15. Here are some physical stats from NFL.com:

    Maybin- 6-4, 250

Schobel- 6-4, 243 (if Maybin is small, what is Schobel?)

    Kelsay- 6-4, 261

    C.Ellis- 6-4, 261

Maybin put on a lot of muscle between the end of his last college season and the Combine. He likely can add some more.

Yes, the Bills DEs are on the small side weight-wise compared to the average NFL DE but that's what fit their scheme.

That is why it seemed like every team ran for over 200 yds against the Bills every game. Also their scheme is no good!!!! Has never been !!!!

  16. RW doesn't "owe" Buffalo anything. That may sting after all the loyalty we've shown but that's the reality.

As far as I know, the team still goes to the highest bidder after his passing.

    GO BILLS!!!

And when he finally does pass away and the team moves ,everyone is going to wish Ralph was still around and think he wasn't such a bad guy afterall for keeping them in Buffalo.

  17. I feel that compared to the PC clueless whimps that were heading up the football operations for the Bills in the past, that Buddy is a breath of fresh air. It is yet to be seen how well he can build a football team ,but after yesterdays news confrence, I feel he is a guy that won't take crap from anyone and will do what he feels is necessary to build a winning team. He will not let the media dictate what should be done or kiss their rearends like others have. He will build a winning football team not just give us the marketing illusion that we have a winning football team.

  18. I don't remember who it was - but I think it was Billick, who in an interview recently, when discussing the potential to be the Bills next coach, mentioned how important it was to have a staff in place, or at least lined up, when going into an interview. Basically, the impression was that a candidate for an NFL head coaching position doesn't go into an interview without having guys lined up or in mind for all the various assistant jobs - unless they're so big named, like Shanahan or Cowher, that they don't need to plan that far ahead. That leads me to believe that Gailey has his staff lined up, and we should see them coming in quickly, or, that he was not "The Man" all along, and was only very recently brought into the field - maybe after a definitive "No" from Cowher, with the suggestion that they look into Chan. It did feel like the Bills were just waiting around for a response from Bill Cowher, and going through the motions with other candidates...

The Bills should have never mentioned at any time after they let Dick go, that they were going to go after big name coaches. They got everyones hopes up, only to let us down. I think Chan is a good coach and will have more success here than the previous 3 coaches ,but compared to the names that were thrown around he seems like a let down. Not fair to him or us. I think he does have a staff in mind and will put it together quickly. At least i hope so.

  19. The task may not be as big as it seems.

The line was a mess, but injuries played a big role. If Wood and Butler come back full strength it will be a big help.

I wouldn't mind if we traded Marshawn Lynch and give Jackson more touches.Trade him before he gets kicked out of the league. If you can get something for Edwards, make the move. I like the upside of Brian Brohm better. We likely will draft a QB high. I hope we also go after a top TE. We haven't had one in a long time. With Gailey, I'm sure our offense will improve, and that alone is refreshing. We have a quality defensive backfield but clearly need help at linebacker, especially if we go to a 4 backer set. Maybin would get his chance as a rushing OLB. Kyle Williams is a keeper on the inside. Our DE likely would need to be bigger and better at holding up against the run. It will take some time but I agree, there is talent on this roster.

Lynch has no trade value at the present time. He gets into too much trouble off the field and no team will give up anything for a guy who is near a full year suspension. I wouid not be surprised if we just dump him.
