just imagine having Spiller and Austin on the field at the same time. Talk about playmakers! We would lead the league 50+ yard TD's. Speaking of which, does anyone think Kolb or Rookie X can command any 15-20 play TD drives?
That being said, I'm sure its a smokescreen, as Buddy's record shows that he doesn't draft players high without official visits. But it does make me wonder if Austin would be a lot higher if Gailey was still HC.

you have it exactly right. Nix has said that trading picks is something that he avoids, because then you are chasing players and you will probably give too much up.
I'm probably wrong, but I think the trade to get T.J. Graham is the only trade he has done on draft day. And he only gave up a 7th.

i have thought about this too and would like a good answer. i know there a lot of factors that play into it, but a simple explanation would be the lack of talent of those spread schools. many of the schools that you mentioned are not at the top of recruiting. They are typically getting second tier recruits. Ok St and Missouri are getting Oklahoma's leftovers, Texas A&M loses out to Texas and TCU, and Clemson to every SEC school in the area.
I think that the spread is a creative offense designed to do a lot with little talent. That is one reason why i still like Chan
: he takes a talentless offense (best skill position starter was drafted in the 7th, remember?) and gets them to score 22.5 points per game.There is no defensive system that can overcome this same talent barrier. So, teams that have bad offensive recruits have bad defensive recruits, leading to defenses.
Only problem is, that doesn't explain Oregon or WV or our bad defense. we have a lot more talent on defense than offense.
So, like i said, i think there are a lot of factors, but this is the only one that i could come up with

Just my thoughts below:
Assuming Stevie and D. Jones are our starters (because they were last year) Nelson and Graham and Easley are our next three guys. I think Graham or Easley could bump to the outside and get 4-6 per game.
Why'd you leave out Nelson? He did that last year; went in for a starter and got 4-6 per game. but i do think we use more 3 or 4 receiver sets than most teams, so Graham or Easley needs to step up

ya graham's small and plays slot, but almost every NFL receiver is small and quick. It doesn't make them all the same player

I'll agree anyone but tannehill, but i disagree that we will be successful with any of those players. I think we have way too high of expectations for first round draft picks. Look at past drafts, the majority of the players end up having very average careers. I know I'm going to be criticized for this, but I think Leodis McKelvin/Donte Whitner's performances are fairly typical for mid-early first round picks.
So, while I expect #10 to start come September, it might be a stretch to say that he will improve the team. I am not very impressed with any of prospects that are expected to go us.
That being said, I have a lot of confidence in Nix, and think he will surprise us with the #10 pick, and I will be proven wrong this season.

The Draft is only 2 weeks away. I know many knowledgeable people on this board want a LT, or WR as there #1 pick. I for one do not understand this. Buffalos offense last year was not that bad and statistically they were middle of the road. But on defense they were historically bad. On defense I have faith in 5 players. Williams x2, Dareus Barnett, and Bird. I have hope for Aaron Williams, Kelvin Sheppard, Justin Rogers, Martin Anderson and Kellen Heard. Beyond these names the cover is bare on defense. I have no hope in Merriman, Kelsay, Wilson, Edwards, Moats, Battan, White, Mcgee, Florence. I left Leodis out intentionally if Buffalo lets him he will be the AFC represenative in the pro bowl for special teams next year (just my opinion). Some of these players have been here for years and are proven loosers. It is time to add real talent to the defense (i.e. Mario Williams). This is why I think that when it is Buffalo turn to pick in each round. They should look at who is the highest rated defensive player on the board and pick him. With that being said. I would like to predict that Buffalo picks Luke Kuechly at #10 when they pick.
Buffalo has some real talent on offense Fred, CJ, Andy Levitre, S. Johnson.
I have a ton of hope for Kelsay. Sure, he was a terrible linebacker the last couple years, but he has always been an above average end. When he had his hand on the ground last year, I would argue he was our best defensive end. I think we will be pleasantly surprised this year with the help he will get from the rest of the line

can someone please explain to me why we need a new stadium. i assume politics or economy, but I'm just uneducated on the issue. It always struck me as odd that all owners ever talk about is wanting a new stadium. Thats the "reason" for almost all of the franchise moves in the last 30-40 years. And as a fan, I could care less where I watch a team. I'm from Detroit, and I'm obviously biased, but I definitly prefer the Ralph to the fancy Ford Field. It makes the game a lot less fun when you feel like you're watching it in a hotel. So who exactly wants all these new stadiums, and who does it benefit?

haha that's good. I wouldn't be surprised if he ened up in jail. I think he will either be a all-time great, or he will end up in legal trouble. I just don't see him leaving the league because of his lack of talent -

is there a difference between a "crackback block" and a "crack block." I guess you don't see many crack blocks in the NFL, so its not a big deal. But if they outlawed it in college/high school, it would change a lot. Hope it doesn't trickle down...

Thought about how there are always instant "winners" and "losers" of the draft, the day after its over. So I went to yahoo's page in 2008 to see what the winners were. The first team mentioned was the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were praised for their multiple trades. Because of the trades, they only had 5 selections. Of those 5, ZERO are still on the roster!
1. Derrick Harvey 1.25 (extremely generous. still in an NFL jersey, so using your scale, I have to give him a 1.25, but he hasn't done anything in years)
2. Quentin Groves 1.25 (see above ^^)
5. Thomas Williams 1.25 (see above ^^ the kid has spent his entire career on various practice squads, including ours)
5. Trae Williams 0.0
7. Chauncey Washington 1.25 (perennial practice squadder, same as the rest)
GPA= 1.0, 0.0 if you are talking current value to Jags
This proves that all of those articles we are about to read about "winners" and "loser" are complete garbage.
Also, interesting to see that the Jags did a lot of trading in this draft. We all know Nix isn't a trader, and this might help back up his philosophy. But then again, the Pats always make a lot of trades, and you can't argue with that success.

Although they aren't a "quality" team like pitt, new england, or green bay, the Lions are my local team, so its easy. This is the last draft of the infamous Matt Millen and Co., and the draft that preceded the 0-16 season

Can someone enlighten me on how hardy became a bust? what went wrong? if i recall correctly, he barely played at all. I assumed it was injury related but did he gain weight or something?

As a current student at MSU, I would hate it if the Bills picked him! That says a lot, because he is known for being one of the most likeable and level headed athletes on campus. Everyone loves Kirk, but those that know football are happy to see him graduate. He definitely has the physical attributes to be a pro quarterback, but I think his numbers are a bit inflated because of his supporting cast. B.J. Cunningham can catch anything within 10 yards of him (I would be thrilled if Buddy picked Cunningham), and Keyshawn Martin and Keith Nichols are both excellent college wide outs. Offensive line wasn't too shabby either.
The thing that really worried me throughout the season is that Cousins would stare down a receiver far too often. There were plenty of times that I (along with others) would scream out for him to not throw the ball that he was clearly about to throw, just for him to throw an INT. He is a very poor decision maker IMO, and would throw into coverage many times a game. Again, I think Cunningham disguised that by making many catches while double covered, and even becoming a defender quite often to prevent the pick. Its not Cousins' arm strength or accuracy that worries me, its his decision making.
Also, he NEVER ran. a few times on 3rd and 10 there wouldn't be a defender within 15 yards of the marker, and Cousins would make a poor throw. I think that is more of problem at the college level than in the pros, but it is definitely a question I would love to ask him.
Just my thoughts as average observer, not professional analysis. But I have seen every one of his snaps this year, and I hope I won't have to watch him on Sunday. Go Green!

I've been saying for a while the NFL ought to have a Tuesday or Wednesday game. It would be a great way to extend the football season without adding more games. How? Give every team a second bye week, but have only teams coming out of a bye play mid-week. That way each team has about 9-10 days to prepare, and 9-10 days to get back to the regular Sunday schedule.

just curious, how did patrick peterson do this year? I remember there being a lot of hype around him in the draft. a lot of people thought he was the best DB to enter the draft since deion sanders. i barely pay any attention to the NFC so I'm wondering how his first year went, and if he was prepared well enough at LSU to contribute as a rookie.
I don't know much on Claiborne, but i do have a lot of hope for Aaron Williams. I'd rather improve the Dline

i live in detroit and word has it that the Lions are trying to restructure Calvin Johnson's contract to fit Avril under the cap. I'd love to see Avril in a Bills uniform but i think the Lions are trying all they can to keep him in Detroit. He has definitely gained a lot of popularity among Lions fans this year.

Never thought about this before. Does anyone know if its a viable option to franchise him year to year? He will likely be paid in the top 3 safeties anyway, and keeping him on a one year contract will eliminate the risk of losing guaranteed money if his production drops in the new scheme. Can anyone enlighten me on any downsides?
