  1. Why are people so pessimistic? If the Bills stay healthy, they control their own fate.

If the Bills win their three remaining home games, and beat the Chiefs, then 9-7 should get them in. All the home games are "must-wins"

The Chiefs game is probably the biggest "must-win" game on the road. Losing to the Chiefs would be a big blow to their chances.

Looking at the rest of the schedule game by game I thinks ends up:

    Steelers 10-6

Bills 10-6 or 9-7 (but can't lose to Chiefs)

Jets 9-7 (Bills win tiebreaker if they both finish 9-7)

    Chiefs 8-8

    Raiders 8-8 or 7-9

  2. i wouldnt even say equal, but a better minimum standard. a meaningless week 17 game between two 2-14 teams and Super bowl will have different coverage standards, and that doesnt bother me- but i think there are some basics that definitely get left out of the smaller games.

HOFer ....I agree with your "minimum standard point". However, the NFL's ridiculous popularity is due in no small part to betting (both legal and illegal), and fantasy football. Having lost bets and fantasy football contests that hinged on things that happened in meaningless games between irrelevant teams that were 2-14 in the last week of the season, there should be a consistent standard that applys. The NFL can't publicly acknowledge that, but they know that bettors and fantasy footballers are part of the market they crave, so for a multi-billion dollar enterprise, a consistent standard should be applied.

  3. The number of cameras varies depending on whatever the networks decide to commit to a particular game. The bigger the game, the more resources committed, usually. Other games, say between Tampa Bay and Oakland, are covered by a sketch artist in comparison.

I suppose the league could provide their own dedicated cameras and crews each game but I doubt they would want to spend the money to do it.

Bottom line is there is a big disparity between replay capabilities from game to game.

    GO BILLS!!!

If the NFL can mandate that all balls in all games be inflated to a consistent PSI to keep the playing field level and make sure their is no competitive advantage one-team has over another, then it should apply to the same standard of consistency to the camera shots available in all games at all sites if they are going to be used to assist in officiating the games. It shouldn't matter the so-called importance or market appeal of the game.

For example, if in Week 17 Pats playing Broncos for home field advantage 1-2, Colts playing Bucs and a Colts win gets them 2 if Broncos lose and fall to 3 if Broncos lose. Pat-Broncos have 20 cameras, Colts-Bucs have 8 cameras. Broncos lose, but unfortunately for the Colts, the Buccaneers upset them on a last second controversial call that would have been overruled if their was 20 cameras.

This rule is a no-brainer and has been for a long time(even if the Cheatriots proposed it).

  4. Here's where Rodak is off base. He says "The ideal in the NFL is to find the defensive end who is worth $5 million but costs only $3 million, or to draft the receiver in the second round who is worth a first-round pick. That doesn't mean bargain shopping is the only way to win, but general mangers who understand value are often successful."

That is incorrect. The ideal in the NFL is "TO WIN GAMES NOW!" That is what the new Bills regime is apparently trying to do and is willing to spend to do it. At the end of the day, it is the Pegula's money to spend and if they want to spend it on building a winner, great!! If it doesn't work out that way, so be it. The Bills haven't had a winner in a long time going the cheap route either.

  5. Let's call it based on the overall results. Ultimately Buddy was a "football guy" that shouldn't have been named a GM. Obviously in hindsight can't excuse taking both Spiller and Troup over Gronk. Also as has been the problem 1996, he didn't find the long-term answer at QB. But it's a new day, and given that there are no apparent and immediate long-term solutions at QB to be had this year, I like what the new regime is doing. You might not like their moves, but they are certainly not taking "the same old thing approach".

  6. Scott Norwood did NOTHING to shame the Bills! :)

He missed the "Wide Right" FG, which was a single play. The entire team blew the game that night. Watch it!

He gave the Bills the Bills 7 great seasons, scored 670 points and made a number of clutch and game winning FGs.

He was a class guy who represented the city and the team admirably and with dignity, especially after the Super Bowl loss.

He still ranks as one of the Bills leading all time scorers and is in the top 100 all-time for FG made in the NFL.

I wish the Bills had more players with his ability at their position, heart and class!

It's bad enough the national media brands him that way. You would think that intelligent Bills followers would know better.

  7. Suggestion for Ralph haters....

Get $800 million of your own money. Buy the team.

Then, given that you are too self righteous to take a handout, decline any support from the city, county or state to keep the team in Buffalo.

And when some Daddy Warbucks from LA comes and offers you $1 Billion (with a B), show your civic pride and turn down that $200 million profit (after all...it would be blood money).

And oh by the way......in the meantime...... we still will all be b*tchin' at you for not taking Tebow (or Clausen, or Bulaga). Or hiring Gailey and Nix, etc.

Ralph is far from the best owner in the league, and he's made many a bad call.....but at the end of the day, the carpet bagger from Detroit has kept the team in Buffalo far longer than I'm guessing 28 of the remaining 31 owners would have (exceptions being the The Rooneys, The Hunts and The Marras i.e The Old Guard).

The guy is 91. He lost a daughter to cancer. He knows every day he wakes up he's on borrowed time. What do you really think, at this stage of his life, is more important to him? Making the Bills a winner again in time to see it, or adding another $10-$20 million to his wallet. Because if you think its the wallet, then why hasn't he called the guy in LA?

  8. I've done my reading on both of them. The way I see it:

Troup worked hard to lose 30 pounds to become stronger and faster off the point of attack.

Cody had an extra ham sandwich and needs a nap and still can't play every down.

    Nuf said.

Da Bills (and Torrel Troup), an ugly mutt, but MY MUTT!! :flirt:

  9. JFP......

You got it backwards. I'm sure you meant to say some big name turd like Cody, not some playmaker out of UCF.

After all here are some "big name / big school" names the Bills have drafted:

Greg Tinker Bell; Tony Hunter; Walt Patulski; Jeff Burris - All Notre Dame / All No 1 picks

Tom Cousineau; Donte Whitner; Ashton Yourbooty - The Ohio State University

    Mike Williams - Texas

    Erik Flowers - Arizona

    Willis MacGahee - The "U"

    Todd Collins - Michigan

I'll take these small-school, no-name "turds" any day:

    Andre Reed - Kutztown

    Don Beebe - Chadron St

    Fred Jackson - Coe College

    Pete Metzellars - Wabash

    Howard Ballard - Alabama A&M

Jeff Wright - Central Missouri State

    Leon Seals - Jackson State

    Jack Kemp - Occidental

    Jamie Mueller - Benedictine

The moral of the story...pick players WHO CAN PLAY!!

Let's see 5 years down the road, who the better player is. Cody or Troup

  10. My grades of these so-called "draft experts" based on what 31 of 32 NFL GMs thought about Clausen (and really, would Carolina have picked him in Round 1 if they had a first round pick??)

Kiper - F+ (rated Clausen 4th best player overall; selected 48th giving some teams the opportunity to pass on him TWICE! I give him the "plus" because he correctly picked the top 3 picks. Oh yeah - so did every other schmuck in the country!)

Matthews F- (his draft homework consisted of reading Kiper's analysis and deciding Clausen is the Golden Boy too. Bob - have you had an original thought in the last 5 years??).

    B-) HAIL BUDDY!!!!

Da Bills, they're an ugly mutt. But they're MY MUTT!!!

(Please Buddy, prove me right on this one!!!)
