  1. Assume panthers take luck, I don't see Denver taking cam because it would have been 2 first rounders in row on qb and elway only soured on Tebow months later in pre season.

Would broncos have traded 2nd overall to someone who wanted cam? On defense they really wanted miller and if miller were now there at 3 expectation would be 3 - 4 bills take him. My guess they take miller and bills take cam. I'd say the latter would have been a given

Are we better off with cam or dareus? I forecast dareus. I like a strong defense and someone on the line who gets double teams off Williams.

I know cam had a very good debut but I'm of the view that was in large part due to sloppy defense in a shortened pre season that played into the hands of a scrambler. I think over time he will cool and dareus's value will only become more apparent.

But neither is a given. Because luck didn't come out dareus and newtons careers bear comparison for what might have been for the bills.

who cares...the Bills HAVE a QB.

  2. Why are some of you coming out with this BS that "we beat a bad team?" Up until kickoff, the Chiefs were widely regarded as one of the better up-and-coming teams in the NFL, picked to have an even better year than last which was a nice 10-6 with a playoff game. About every writer, reporter and analyst in the nation picked them to whup the Bills...and that includes most of the writers, reporters and analysts in WNY, for cryin' out loud. And probably at least half of the posters on TSW. But all of a sudden, the Bills knock the peep out of KC and suddenly they're a "bad team." No, folks, the Chiefs are not a bad team at all, they just looked like it after they got Bill-dozed.

    Bill-dozed....awesome

I guess this puts the Keebosh on the Andrew Luck conversation.

  3. Neufeld was like 34 other Bills TEs over the last 15 years or so. Not big, not fast, not good blocking, not good receiving. They were decent at most everything, did nothing well, and did next to nothing in the games. For a TE to be effective either he has to be a very good receiver OR a very good blocker. There are very few who can do both. But our guys never did either well. Lee Smith is huge and has potential to be a very good blocker. It remains to be seen if he can do it in the NFL on sundays but he has a chance to be a valuable cog if he can block well. I am so sick of the Ryan Neufeld Fine Stupar Royal Campbell Cieslak Euhus Shoumans we have had.

Those guys make Riemersma seem like Tony Gonzalez.

  4. When do the Bills leave for road games? Friday afternoons? I assume the show will be live in studio?

    PTR

Im satisfied with Fitz. Maybe draft somebody two years from now for him to start grooming. I know this is kind of off topic, but i thought Id say it before anybody had a chance to say something stupid.

  5. I don't get this logic. By that rationale Maybin should have been starting last year.

Comparing CJ to Maybin in any way is your first mistake.

Would you guys listen to yourselves?

Tim Graham states that the first team RB position is CJ's to lose and everyone including Fred assumes that Graham is also saying that Fred is therefore a second stringer.

Fred Jackson then jumps the gun and goes public with a statement about not being respected.

After practice, Gailey is caught completed off guard with questions about Jackson not feeling respected. He said CJ and Fred are both #1's. He also said that Fred was a bit ahead of CJ. He clearly was not putting CJ ahead of Jackson on the depth chart and Tim Graham's comments were off the mark.

Now, I come into this forum this morning and you guys are still going on over something that never happened.

well said. There must not be any good reality shows on TV. Im sure Bills Nation would love to see Snookie start in place of Kelsay.

  6. DISCLAIMER: I have not seen last night's game.

I understand that the first string of the 2011 Buffalo Bills did not perform particularly well in the modified scrimmage that took place in Denver last evening. It appears that certain players struggled.

Every year we have fans who draw one of the following two conclusions from such a performance:

    (A) The Bills suck! $%&%$@#!!! I'm so done with this team!

    (B) Relax! It's preseason and the gameplans are "vanilla" (if I had a nickel for every time I heard the word vanilla during preseason I'd be a wealthy man).

The truth, my friends, lies somewhere in the middle. If certain positions or players look overmatched, there are definitely concerns. That said, I've seen a lot of ugliness in the preseason thus far from a number of supposedly pretty good teams (FYI, the Eagles' starting offense and defense looked miserable Thursday night). I'm pretty certain a lot of positions are still being contested on the Bills roster, and everything is being geared towards getting the team ready for KC on 9/11 -- which is still three weeks away.

I'm not suggesting fans shouldn't be disappointed by what happened on the field in Denver, but history has shown that what occurs during preseason is rarely what occurs when the real games begin. By way of example, I recall Fitz' quote prior to this week's game. He said he hoped the Bills would get some productive work done, but in the very same sentence he stated it was a GOAL to not have anyone injured. Does anyone think this is the same mentality a team goes into the regular season with?

I'm not saying the Bills will be "fine" or that there isn't a lot of work to do; I just believe far too many fans read far too much into these scrimmages.

    well said

  7. As a defensive end he is awful. Playing outside linebacker he is worse. No speed, no power. I haven't seen him make a play since he has been here.

watch the highlights from last nites game and see Kelsay drive the guy trying to block him up into Cutlers lap. He set the edge exactly like hes supposed to. I havent seen a Kelsay basher do **** since Ive been watching Bills football.

  8. We lose 27-10 and one of our young receivers gets hurt and is placed on IR (lost for the year). Our offensive line is horrible and allows 4 sacks and very little room for the running game. The only positive is that our undrafted free agent punter does well which leads him to make the roster over Moorman as another cost cutting move.

    Wrong on basically everything

  9. Yup. I thought he looked pretty "good" this time last year to0. I didn't look up the stats, but if I'm not mistaken he had several sacks, and more QB pressures during the preseason games last year. Playing against 3rd and 4th stringers will certainly make you look improved...

I was kind of thinking this myself...Poz made one kind of play, tackling the running backs after a 5-15 yard gain right up the middle (kind of explains his high tackle numbers last year).

Barnett is a completely different player, this guy has real speed at the position. I like Poz, he was a good tackler when he got to someone, but he is flat out SLOW. Barnett also has years of experience in a good 3-4 defense, and good football instincts. It is insane (but great for the Bills) that he is making half of what Poz is now...

When has Bills nation NOT said that about a middle-linebacker? The "yeah but all his tackles are 8 yrds downfield" crowd. Seems like a familiar, empty beef about MLB's in general.

  10. Looking at the schedule, I think the Bills have 5 games that will be difficult to win, and the remainder are in play. Four of the five are the 2 each vs. Jets and Pats, and then I'd throw in the Eagles. However, I won't be surprised if the Bills steal a game from either the Jets or Pats, or both. I think 10-6 is very doable.

    Primary keys:

    1. RT. Bell stays healthy. I think the interior 3 will be very strong, and Pears will be serviceable. It won't surprise me (or anyone) to see the Bills pick up another tackle before the season starts. As is, with a healthy Bell, the line is better than last year.

    2. Pass rush. Merriman stays healthy. While I think the defense will be siginificantly better this year, a healthy Merriman could make it lethal. The addition of Dareus, along with improvements from Troup and Carrington, solidifies the line, which will free up the LBs more.

    Other musings:

    Offense:

    - The running game should be significantly better based on a stronger interior line and improvement from Spiller.

    - Thigpen gives the Bills a true backup if Fitz goes down.

    - Chandler should be a pleasant surprise at TE.

    - The offense will be entertaining to say the least.

    Defense:

    - The safety play will be better with Wilson and a more experienced Byrd.

    - With a better pass rush, there will be more turnovers.

    - I think Carrington will move into a starting role by the bye.

    How to get 10 wins?

I think the Bills can go 4-2 into the bye.

Wins: KC, Oak, Cinc, and Giants (toughest).

    Losses: Pats and Philly.

    Remainder of games:

    Wash W

    Jets L

    Dallas W

    Fins W

    Jets L

    Tenn W

    SD L

    Fins W

    Denver W

    Pats L

The real test for me is the first Jets game at home. Can a bigger, stronger Bills team now go toe-to-toe with the Jets?

I think the Bills can make the playoffs if they win ONE of the four games vs Jets and Pats, and go 3-3 in the division, and 11-5 overall!

That's my prediction. (Which is dependent on Bell and Merriman staying healthy.) Obviously, a run of injuries like last year would spoil this as well.

    Go Bills!

    (Optimistic) TPS

    Im in.

  11. That praise only speaks to his offensive coaching ability, which is excellent. As a head coach he has not been very impressive and he doesn't do himself any favors when he hires coaches like George Edwards.

My concern is that he is not a motivator and has never won anything, yet he has a tendency to blame others before himself and has a tendency to try to prod players thru the media. That might fly for Parcells, but not for a guy who hasn't proven he can win big. He expects results but he hasn't been successful enough in the past to get players to buy in unconditionally to the idea that he is doing everything possible to put them in position to succeed. I just have a suspicion that even if Nix puts the talent on the field for him he is not going to win, either because of bad assistants or a team that is tired of his approach. He will be up in front of the media, exasperated and throwing players under the bus until the team has to replace him and we are left wondering how this seemingly very talented coach just doesn't make a good head coach.

And then he will go someplace else as an OC and be very successful like so many other former Bills head coaches who were really not cut out to be head coaches in the NFL. Hope I am wrong, but that's the feeling I get from observing him last year and knowing his track record at Dallas and GA Tech.

who has he prodded besides Maybin?
  12. 3:26 of absolutely nothing. Haha.

Im not sure what your expectation might have been. I was impressed with how sincere the guy was. I think his perspective on a prospective rookie wage scale said a TON about where the guys head is and where his motivation comes from. A cynic could say it was lip service, but thats not my read on him. The guy was as beastly on the field as ive ever seen, AND he's a good dude with his head on straight. What more could we ask for? This guy aint no one year college wonder we're talkin' about.
