  1. I don't think our 2nd string QB is on the roster yet. Whaley had to sign who he could over the weekend. Tuel, Leinart and Lewis are in the interesting position of playing for the opening day starter/3rd string spot.

A lot of QBs will be available in 6 days. My guess is Whaley signs whoever is cut between Brady Quinn and Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson might even be able to start week 1 with knowledge of the offense. I'm guessing the Giants would also like to sneak Ryan Nassib onto the practice squad, but know the Bills would sign him if they tried.

Having said all that, EJ is obviously the starter when he is healthy, Kolb is probably headed to IR, 2nd string will be acquired next week and 3rd string/opening day starter will be decided in practice and during the game on Thursday. If Tuel losses out to Leinart or Lewis in the next few days, he probably makes the practice squad. For all of the positive talk about Tuel, his performance on Saturday was less than stellar.

  2. In theory, I get why Buddy would extend Merriman. Our pass rush is still developing and we are re-signing a veteran who has potential.

However, in practice, we have a long list of unrestricted free agents who are wondering what their future will be. Granted, we won't be re-signing everyone, but it definitely sends a message to guys in the locker room when Buddy re-signs someone who has yet to see the field. I think it says its better to be one of Buddy's guys instead of a Bills veteran. I wasn't a fan of the Kelsay contract, but at least it said if you work hard on the field, you will be rewarded.

  3. I question the FO in signing Kelsay to a lucrative deal, but they won't trade Lee for a 3rd round pick (teams don't give up 1's and 2's anymore (especially with the coming rookie salary cap). Lee is the most talented player on the team. The man has 40 touchdowns on Bills' teams that haven't exactly lit it up. He still has speed. Evans is the goods.

  4. we ran the 4-3 all day today. Maybe you should watch.

Yeah, my post was before the game, so looks like Chan was thinking the same thing (not that its anything to be proud of). I just watched the game on NFL Game Rewind. To start it looks like it was Stroud, Troup, Williams and Edwards up front with Kelsay, Poz and Davis at LB. It scares me when I see Kelsay away from the Line of scrimmage. Maybe they can work Kelsay into the front and have Ellison back at LB covering people.

Also I hope they make Flacco beat us next week. I'm fine with giving up pass yards next week since the run defense is so bad. Force Willis to run against 8 guys in the box and blitz Flacco to actually try and get a sack.

  5. Since we are good at changing direction mid-season, how about going back to the 4-3 during the bye week? Being 30th against the run is looking really good right now. We might get some pressure on the QB to generate an INT as well. Ryan Denney is waiting by the phone.

  6. Never having played a down of football, I would say we need to play a 3-2-6 defense on Sunday vs. New England. We should take turns blitzing Whitner and or Scott from different angles. New England has one of the worst running attacks in the league. We need guys on the field that can cover. It was painful to watch Chris Kelsay attempt to cover Jermichael Finley last week.

    Go Bills.
